- Buell can be obtained early by ramming into him on horseback while he is hitched outside the Veteran's Homestead. When struck, Buell will spook and detach from the hitching post, subsequently running over the mountains to Roanoke Ridge.
The player may track Buell on horseback, and after a certain amount of time will be able to jump to Buell when close enough. From here, the player must hitch Buell at camp, save the game, then reload the save.
Buell will be hitched in camp and appear similar to the above.

After many failed attempts, I got buel! I was starting to wonder if it was patched but no it’s still works.

There was one time i almost lost Buell with John, some random event triggered and i helped a prisoner escape from a wagon i quickly realized it was a mistake he threw me down from Buell and he started getting away with Buell, it happened so fast... Bro i swear i was like "wtf no, no, no" he was already very far away and i just did the best dead eye shot with a revolver ever and killed the prisoner with an impeccable headshot and then i whistled and Buell came back my heart was actually racing so fast, never again.
Next time if someone try to steal your horse don't panic. You can let him ride the horse then just by a simple whistle, The horse will throw down the thief and return back to you.

Check the link above I was on black Arabian level one bonding and it worked

I wanted to keep this horse, potentially as my primary because i liked the missions storyline, but what the veteran said about him being easy spooked was very true in my experience. Finally just sold it cuz i got tired of it running off if a butterfly farted.

Thank you to the creator of this video and here is a tip for anyone who comes across my post if an NPC steals your and you don't feel like killing them just whistle for your horse while the NPC is on and watch what happens.
Nothing would happen on RDR2 like it did on the first one. But that's just on my end whenever I played and whistled for my horse when an NPC steals it.

I've always refrained from completing this stranger encounter as Arthur because I love Buell and felt it was a shame I had to lose him so soon after getting him... Nice to know there's a way around that!
Yeah, I was having the same feeling. Losing the horse after only one chapter was very irritating.
I hate that Rockstar didn't tell players if you finished the mission with Arthur you can't keep Buell. When you know it it's too late. Brutal

@@Chillerveli The white Arabian has Health 5, Stamina 5, Speed 6, and Excelleration 6, and superior handling. Buel has the same stats only with standard handling. Why is he better? Also, this IS a beauty contest here.

If you don't want to chase the horse you can finish the quest line and get the horse much easier

Here is another little tip THAT MIGHT WORK if you're short on cash you can steal Buell over and over again and sell him to the stables person down in Van Horn for a possible $26 bucks. (not sure if that little money glitch will work but you can give it a try)

By this glitch you can get buell for unlimited times.
You’re better off fishing right off Hamish’s dock. Sockeye sell for 5.74/per in Rhodes. It takes about two in game days to bang out 99.
For even more money, add in 99 steelhead off the river by Limpany or Clemmon’s Point, and small alligator pelts from behind Shady Bell.
There’s the wallet and large jewelry bag in the mausoleum to add 70-72 bucks depending on truck keys each day.
Just do the last vet mission as John the vet gives John bruell. It was so easy to get.

As John :you have to visit the veteran's cabin again and finish all remaining missions. Or you can get it by the same way in the video

I bonded him tied in his yard then jumped to him and headed to camp, seen a hanging man shot him down and Murfee brood killed me because I had fell and didn't take meds they killed me easy, but when it reloaded Buel was able to get on.
It's okay to do this just to say you got the horse as Arthur, but it is really pointless at this stage of the game. The closest / best option is to get the Perlino Andolusian horse up by the Brandywine Falls/ ravine early in chapter 2. The horse has amazing stats and the closest you'll get to the color. You will also have an amazing horse for the entire playthrough as Arthur absolutely free and with no hassle except for breaking it, which can get a little tricky, but also fun at the same time.
Edit: At bonding level 4, the horse will have full health and 8 stamina. This is really good. Combine the 2 races where you can give the horse a permanent boost in acceleration and you will be all set. This can all be done in chapter 2.

Its my favourite one to start chapter 2 with. Until getting the dark bay turkoman.

The White arabian near Lake Isabella is Overall the Best FREE horse and she respawns after 42h and sheeeees so beautiful

This has been patched? I’ve brought back buell 5 times to my camp and saved the game like mentioned in the video. He’s never there. Was working on my earlier play throughs but I think they patched it.

I got BUELL straight away but didn't know he would along with Arthur absolutely gutted about I got my other saved in stables but BUELL is one of a kind majestic so heart broken over it I paused my game had a cigarette and and said next time im stabling him for John

As John, either you can do the same glitch and get buell, or you finish the veteran's missions then he will ask you to take the horse before he died.

Does it still work? I am trying really hard, but I am stuck on step 1. I smash it right into Buell but he wont move anyway.
I'm thinking they may have patched this recently because I've been trying to do it as well and I can get him to run from me and then I catch up with him on my own horse but I don't get a prompt to jump from horse to horse At 1 point I was just standing next to Buell While sitting on my own horse and for several minutes I just kept walking around him and I never got the prompt so I'm thinking you can't do it anymore
@@rosswilson9039I had the same problem at first but i realized you have to catch buell before you can retry the hamish mission (atleast for me when i crash to buell the mission becomes unavaildable for a while). So you can only get the prompt to jump to horse only when buell is running and still not everytime. I think i managed to get Buell on my like tenth try. 🥲

Buell is not a good horse ..easily spooked by wolves,bears,cougars and even snakes...by contrast Turkoman Andalucian MFT dont afraid of predators..my andalusian even trampled the wolves and sometimes cougar in one occassion while arthur in hunting sortie in Roanoke Ridge...
