Hoping some of the money is used to give all the dancers and staff pay raises.

I wonder who is the anonymous source behind this old-school generosity. So few people in the world would take the risk because it deflects from using every waking hour to earning a live-in. Hopefully this endowment will energize the Company and take every technique and every combination in check. Read the new director! she what all that behind this. I think Edith has done well.

They already did the ballet on FRIDA which was amazing! and she also had another interesting ballet relating to technology and AI.... if you don't about the new SF director, Tamara Rojo, the new artistic director, took over the English National Ballet when it was not recognized much internationally. It was broke and dying, but she transformed it into an internationally acclaimed company with her innovative projects and avant-garde ballet choreographies. Thanks to her, they received world headlines for their ballet choreographies.
However, the company couldn't appreciate her because they were so backward-thinking. This was all because she married one of the dancers, Mexican dancer Isaac Hernandez, who had already been with the English National Ballet before she joined.
I am so glad that the SF Ballet took her and Isaac because both have done amazing truly innovative choreographies for the ballet world!
and now they are in SF!!!!!
Now the British ballet are probably fuming because they cornered and lost the people who revived them!
Now it's SF turn... and we are all lucky to be part of these new choreographies.
But she also still keeps the classics which of course, are forever loved, just a nice mix of classics and new ones.

SF has tons of problems. This is nice but it would have been much more useful in other areas of the city. (Like crime, homeless housing , etc)

Keeping the arts alive is actually 'useful'. Giving humans something to live for aside from the next meal, if you know what I mean. I always thought it was interesting that we tend to evaluate other cultures, especially ancient ones, by their surviving arts, crafts and architecture. Only a select few still wonder if their military was getting enough weaponry, or if the populace really had sufficient housing and nourishing food. Mostly the living want to know: can these people inspire me in any way? Did they know something about life that I don't know about, that's going to help me, emotionally and spiritually? That's what we look to the arts for.
