    Put a small cheater bar on the end of your rachet. Makes pulling and reinstalling serpentine belt much easier.
    Go to Lowe's and get you some pipes to fit over end of your different rachets. You can cut various lengths and sizes for different settings.
    Thank you for taking your time and sharing this money saving process.

    The crankshaft bolt is a tty (torque to yield) bolt. There’s a specific torque and then a degree spec you need to abide by in order to torque correctly.

    I did the timing belt on my chevy cruze and i didn't tighten the harmonic balancer bolt to torque spec and it came off and caused me more problems then it was worth. Make sure it has been torqued to spec or you could have more issues.

    In order to get the water pump pulley off, you have to lift the engine so that one bolt clears the frame. Once that bolt is out,rotate the pulley and get the next one and so on. I used an air ratchet.

    Ok give a little help tip here for serpentine belt since. Im working on my 2013 sonic myself when moving the tensioner to get belt off or on there is a hole you can put in small screw driver or philips or anything round fits in hole to hold tensioner forward so you can get belt off or even putting it on by yourself.

    About 24 to 25 minutes into you installed a small bracket like tool underneath the engine near drivers side of the block with that 15mm nut. What does that little tool do? Where can I buy one?

    • @AnythingAuto

      That is a flywheel locking tool. It is used to lock the flywheel in place so the crankshaft does not move. If installed properly, the tab fits between the oil pan and the transmission, and prevents the flywheel from turning

    How to loosen the timing belt in a 13 Chevy sonic

  • @zachaustin9126
    @zachaustin9126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    am trying to put the new timing belt on. I had the locking tool in place between the camshaft sprockets with marks for all three sprockets sitting where they needed to be.
    Upon attempting to slide the new belt on, I had the crankshaft sprocket on the bottom actually rotate clockwise about a 1/2 tooth. I am unable to simply rotate it back counterclockwise because the bolt is not a reverse thread and therefore doest grab going on that direction.
    What would you recommend at this point? I still have the top camshafts locked in place with their timing marks in the proper position.

    • @AnythingAuto
      @AnythingAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow sorry I always answe back quicker. It didn't tell me! I'm sure you figured it out by now. The half tooth shouldn't matter. I had to rotate one to fit the belt on myself

      Use an impact wrench with only a few impacts into the bolt. It will hold just fine for moving the crank pulley anticlockwise.

    • @chrisbrotherton
      @chrisbrotherton 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve seen diagram on (AllData or timing belt handbook) which mention putting timing belt around intake sprocket first then clockwise to exhaust sprocket and eventually ending with tensioner. It seems to make it more difficult getting it around the crankshaft down below, but pays off in having slack next to the only part that allows for movement.

    is that Jackstand under the right front suspension that is only barely touching the cradle with the very tip of one of the two ends actually bearing any real weight there ? Because if it was, it appeared to be placed very carelessly / dangerously ! Just sayin', I wouldn't want you or anyone else to get hurt doing this relatively simple repair simply because Jackstands weren't positioned properly.

    • @AnythingAuto

    • @AnythingAuto
      @AnythingAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      @johnbishop7912 1st question, I work on full-size pickup trucks, some weighing 7000lbs so 1 ton jack will not cut it. Answer that question properly? You stated you saw 1 barely touching. That may have been, but I use 2 stands and 1 jack. That tiny car wouldn't crush 2 3 ton jack stands and 1 3 tons of jack. I didn't buy any of those from harbor freight.
