This was so informative. As a crafter I constantly weigh cost versus ease.

It's always a balance of time vs cost of materials. A belt blank can come pre-punched and ready for a buckle, all you do is tool it and finish it. I'm strictly a hobbyist so for me it's blanks unless it's something odd ball. Great explanation!

Here's a tip, I don't know of many people that are 5ft/60in wide. If you angle your straight straight edge slightly when you cut it instead of going directly down the length of your bend you can get more straps and in differing and shorter lengths with less waste and you will still have some long ones straps from the middle.

I can swear by what he is saying about the bend. My shop sells these like crazy!

Good tip on starting the first straight cut in the middle. Checked weaver website couldn't find any "single bend" veg tan.

The only single bend we currently have is our Water Buffalo Single Bends. www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/water-buffalo-single-bends
We do have double bends in our English Bridle leather. It's a pretty large cut of leather but will leave you with little to no waste when cutting straps www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/chahinleather-english-bridle-double-bends

I have a request for a Leather Element. How to make an good quality Eye Patch. A recent incident to one of my eyes means that on and off for the rest of my life I will need to wear an eye patch.

Chuck, good video. Are those belt leathers Veg Tan or Chem Tan? I’m thinking about tooling abilities.

Veg tanned leather will make a much better belt. Chrome tanned leather is too thin to make a belt, or to tool.

The crazy Horse isn't good for tooling. It's takes stamps great! The oils and dyes that are used for the pull-up effect make not best for tooling.

      They are veg tan though.

The leather in the video is veg tanned. For tooling we recommend natural veg tan. English Bridle leather will take stamps very well but we wouldn't recommend carving it. Water Buffalo will take something like a makers mark .

So question? Are the spools continuous or are they spliced? Secondly if 7ft is enough for the project great! But isn't possible to cut your own, continuous lace at 25,50,or 75ft? I bought some kangaroo lace and while it was 50ft the splices became a problem

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply

The spooled lace is continuous with no splicing. The only way to cut it yourself in a continuous 7 ft long piece would be to use an extra long hide or cut the lace with the lace maker we linked below, it cuts in a circular motion and as long as your piece of leather is large enough, you can get very long pieces out of that. www.weaverleathersupply.com/products/lace-maker?_pos=2&_psq=lace&_ss=e&_v=1.0
