That is Menard Correctional Center. I worked for Corrections for 24 years, but I was at Logan CC. I have heard many a story about Ol Menard. That is definitely the real deal when it comes to prisons! I get on the river from time to time, catfishing.
The biggest challenge with the old bridge is that there is no room for error. There is a curb running alongside the travel lane...no shoulder to drift over onto, so meeting another loaded semi on that bridge means both of you don't have a much room to get out of each other's way. It feels like a rather tight squeeze.@@TwoAcresandaMule
It’s the sketchiest bridge I’ve ever been on. There’s a VICE news video where it’s featured and it was listed as a D rating. So as close to failing as it can be. There’s exposed rusted metal bars and some chunks of concrete are missing.
Hey capt.... yea thats a new bridge work they have started on and the building up on the top of the hill ur talking about was the death house ... Illinois done away with capital punishment so they demolished all that up on top of the hill... I got family that works there at the prison.... be safe capt.

The small barge us core drilling to check the piling size and depth needed for bridge support
Speaking of movies. That Chester bridge was used in the movie "In the heat of the night".
You should be around East St.Louis now,my home town but left there in '75,not a friendly place anymore.
The bridge can be seen in the 1967 movie "In the Heat of the Night"
That old bridge has been a headache for quite a few years - extremely narrow and somewhat in disrepair, so they have begun work on a new bridge.
11ft lanes don't sound fun.
