There would be no peace in Northern Ireland today if it wasn't for Thomas P O'Neill. He got Reagan to strong-arm Thatcher into signing the Anglo Irish Agreement. In her memoirs she recounted that she regretted signing it, as it gave the Republic of Ireland a say in the running of Northern Ireland but thanks to O'Neill's efforts it led to the Good Friday agreement and peace today. Thanks Mr O'Neill.
Don't forget you had a respectable Senate Majority Leader in Howard Baker during Reagan's first term. Tip O'Neill said many a time he preferred Baker over Robert Byrd
Good day to History in Five and thank you kindlly for sharing! Thank you kindlly to Mr Chris Matthews! President Ronald Reagan was the greatest U.S.President in U.S. history! a Wonderful Actor and a Wonderful Governor! very sincerlly! With Respect! T.G.
Reagan was one of those wonderful people that could make friends with a rattle snake (no offense intended), Tip was an honorable man and responded in kind. That’s how government is SUPPOSED to work...both parties, acting in good faith for a common public purpose, and neither made their political positions, personal. Wish we could find more leaders like them.
I haven’t always been a fan, sir. But I have always respected your intelligence. I was in my early 20s when Reagan and O’Neal would have their political battles but there was never any petty viciousness between them. I’ve very much enjoyed this video, more so than I can convey.
MORE Amazing these guys got along since the 80’s was the BIGGEST Rivalry Sports ever had with LA vs. Boston. And RR was an LA guy, with Tip from Boston.
Back in the 1950s Eisenhower used to have lunch every Thursday with Speaker Sam Rayburn and Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson whenever Congress was in session. Of course, there were political fights. But most of the time they ended with some kind of compromise. And a lot actually got done with minimal drama. One of the few times Ike actually got steamed was when LBJ and the Senate Democrats gutted the 1957 Civil Rights Act which Eisenhower had strongly supported. It was supposed to be the first meaningful civil rights legislation since the 1870s and it ended up a watered down and toothless scrap of paper.

Don't agree with Matthew's political stances, but I've always liked him because he seems reasonable.
Chris and the dems should learn from Tip.
Trump and the GOP could learn from Tip. -There I fixed your ignorance.
Good job Chris.

Remember how James Baker invented Shuttle Diplomacy & worked with Edvard Shevanase?
First you need a strong and defined leader, which Reagan was.
Then you need a party and a media's that doesn't act like insolent hacks. Yes you Chris.

Reminded him of a "New York lawyer" hmm I wonder what he meant? Lol
Nancy should learn from Tip.
If Trump had been more like Reagan, sure. Reagan was a conservative, Trump is a would-be autocrat.
This was an insider rose color view, from people were getting paid by the Beltway. Show biz.
Even though this was a great event. Trump somehow keeps plowing.
Look how vicious how the libs have become started during Obama years. Trump just mirrored what the leftist are doing. Fair enough.
The 1980 election was not a surprise to anyone outside the beltway. You're part of the problem Chris Matthews
Man, this video didnt age well
