Have the UAD Fairchild and Manley (this one works great in Mid Side mode) and works fantastic. Also EL Rey that bumps the 60 HZ area like the original RCA that model does; also to get more color you can increase the Input. Love it in Female vocals and of course Bass!!!!! Some other that i like a lot: MJUC from Klanghelm, The Amazing and colorful AR1 from Kush Audio and another one i love for vocals and bass (when im not using the El REY; The Summit Audio TLA 100 emulation from softube.
I really dig the Klanghelm MJUC it's cheap and sounds better than most. It's 3 compressors in one mk1 is a Fairchild, mk2 is a 176, mk3 is a Manley Vari Mu. ✊🏾😁
@@spjutjarfalla3944 no it's about the same as El Rey. I own a lot of Acustica plugins most of them are amazing. Nickel and Smoke are horrible sounding compressors but the rest are great. El Rey is also a great sounding compressor, but I find MJUC on par with it, it uses less resources, it is more flexible, can be used on more sources, comes with 2 extra compressors and is much cheaper. It is one of the rare exceptions where I would choose another brand over Acustica.
@@spjutjarfalla3944 if by analog you mean non linear with harmonic generation then yes they both replicate the analog-ness. The only difference is MJUC you can choose the amount of non linearity and you can choose the tone of the curve. While El Rey the non linearities and harmonics are set as is.
Just want to mention "Tone Empire Firechild" and "Overloud Gem Comp670", both offer a free demo and are - at least in my opinion - real great compressors
Hey buddy thanks for watching. Yes it’s definitely one of my favorites out of all the tube emulations. Acustica Audio do a decent emulation of the STA as well called Smoke, but I think I prefer the Arturia one personally.

Thank you for watching. Yes, I have. I love it. It was difficult choosing between the UAD and the Pulsar for the video to be honest, as I love them both. The reason I chose the UAD version is that it is pretty basic and is a more 1-to-1 emulation. The Pulsar has so much more to it, I could make a video on that plugin by itself.
@@TheCratesMotel you’re absolutely right ! The Mu pushes it a bit further ! By the way the UAD is a pretty good emulation. The Massive from Pulsar is also very gooood ! Coupled with the Mu, it does wonders on my lazy mixbus 🤣
hello, (after correcting the frequency response with SIENNA, i.e. linearity / harman curve) what is the ideal dB value in addition to the bass? That is, after which you would increasingly lose quality by upsetting the headphones. I am referring to the right value to add on the bass to a headphone so as not to upset it, not to damage the drivers for example. and do not lose quality. Then are there headphones more suitable to undergo additions on the bass? based on transducers (dynamic or magneto-planar or drivers

@@filll1801 I use the Audeze LCD-X which are Planar Magnetic but I used to use the Focal which are dynamic. I personally prefer the speed of the LCD-X with the low end. It keeps the bass tight. Personally I do not make any dB changes overall for my headphones. I do not use software correction at all, only very occasionally will I use the crossfeed matrix on my Phonitor 2.
I wish El Rey had more dirt. Theres always TimPs RCA limiter. Sampled from the same type of unit- more meticulously in my opinion, and complete with saturation
Ya know, I never could find the reasoning to justify the El Rey lol. Every time I go put it in the cart I have a small heart attack hahaha! I have so many other options that it's hard to justify and I make money using plugins, you would think that would make it easier. 🤣

Great stuff mate! Love the El Rey. Worth checking out London Acoustics Brighton Opto too if you haven’t yet - great ‘tubey’ sound, in my opinion!

not many are aware of them yet, but gbSoundlab TubeMUV2 and Sweetpressor are two of my most used tube/character compressors, very special plugins.

Yeh man I love El Rey for colour.

Pulsar Audio made a pretty good emulation of Manley Vari-Mu. It's parked regularly on my master bus. Has a lot of added features too.
Yes Pulsars Mu is very nice. I regularly use all their plugins. I’m liking their new EQ and love the 1178.
