I think a lot of people have been in toxic relationships, and you captured the pain of that beautifully. It’s so hard getting yourself out of a situation like that because you genuinely love and care about that person, but just know that you deserve better and someone who will treat you the right way.
I agree, I was physically and verbally abused by a former friend that was struggling herself, but rather than soak in what she was doing to temporarily let off her pain by inflicting pain on someone else, she continued to drag me and another friend down with her. We tried to help her, build her up again and make her happy every day but it took me another semester to learn that your health sometimes SHOULD be put above another person when you need to leave, and that not everyone is your responsibility. After I left her I've never been happier. So it really stings when I see people who clearly haven't been in a toxic relationship dismiss the toxic person's actions (while that is necessary to an extent in forgiveness), and blame anyone who was abused by this toxic person leave. And these people tend to claim "they weren't real friends" which is why I'm often laughing at the contradiction on that statement. That's a bit of a rant but back to my point, it feels good knowing there's a song like this that tells my side and how I felt, there's a lot more to unpack on all sides of the story but still, also that your comment relates, a lot. So thank you
