But the problem is that the it would get too technical. The level of maths applied in these fields are very advanced and the laymen cannot grasp such advanced level math's so what's the point of including it in the first place.

actually in the first case when the poles r facing the same poles, the smaller bar magnet acts as a part of the 2 magnets and the whole setup acts as a big single magnet
but when flipped, when opposite poles are facing each other, then the setup would act as 2 separate bar magnets
