  • During WW2, the German scientists laid the foundations of many Cold War era technologies with several of their revolutionary inventions. One of these was the Arado Ar 234 Blitz which is famous for being the first jet bomber but also the first jet reconnaissance plane and even the first four-jet engine to ever fly! But to this already impressive list is also another version of this Wunderwaffe which if the war lasted a bit longer would have seen the light of day : The Arado 234 AEW. It was a radar plane capable of spotting a contact at 45 km but was also to be a command center in the skies which made of it precursor of AWACS. Plus, it had to have a rotodom and if this plane was not produced, this innovation lives insides the AWACS of our time because it significantly influenced the Western and then Soviet engineers. However, this project was totally forgotten so, today, I propose you to discover it!

    thank you for this video, as for your video on the different versions of the ME262 I was totally unaware that the developments had gone this far and not only on plans whose feasibility is debated but on functional equipment which just did not have time to be used. It's fascinating . For my part I find the Ar 234 almost more revolutionary than the ME262 proving the innovative qualities of Arrado this firm is really very special and they forget it too often

      Thanks to you :). And concerning the AR 234, it is clearly and underrated Wunderwaffe just as Arado since they passed in a very short time from a company producing mostly training or licenced planes to a Wunderwaffen Generator. This firm just had not the time to show its potential.

    Interesting
    I'm an Arado planes fan and I've never saw a documentary about this version.

    I am really impressed by the quality of your videos! Allow me one last remark about your accent (I hope this works): if you have a test video with a spoken text and you switch the auto subtitles on, you can see for yourself how well your spoken words are translated - and are understood.

    The Allies did AEW aircraft in WW2, one of the variants is an ancestor of the E2-D, which is still a prop engine AEW platform.

      Indeed, one of these is a variant of the Avenger : the TBM-3W

    I dont mind your accent. The concern is that the music is too loud, compared to your voice. I can not hear you well.

    Amazing how far ahead the Germans were in aviation concepts during WW2.

      I am amazed sometimes about the number of modern miltech that traces is roots (or least had one of the first examples) in some German WW2 program. Not always the well-known stuff like jet aircraft or missile tech, either. Stuff like battlefield IR, SAMs, squad machineguns, etc.

      @@MM22966 Swept back wings, forward swept wings, movable wings, SAM's, multi stage missiles, even a sub orbital space plane were a few concepts on the drawing board when WW2 ended.

      Yes, it is so impressive that even if Germany was obviously on the bad side, it creates some fascination!

      @@Snake-ms7sj Uhhhm, what else? Modern conventional sub design, smart bombs, aerial missiles, modern tank layout/design, wide-scale use of submachine guns, use of tactical radios in armored warfare, airborne paratroops, gliders.
      Sometimes it is easier to list the things that they WEREN'T first to innovate, like radar, amphibious vehicles, bazookas, or nukes. Medical stuff like penicillin and blood plasma. Computers. Oh, and helicopters. (I think the USA beat them there)

    Advance tech is a force multiplier and a game changer, but it does no good too little, too late, with limited resources wasted on too many "wonder weapon" projects. A few Tiger, Panther tanks and Me.262's cannot stand up to a huge fleet of Allied bombers bombing 24/7 and hordes of Soviet T-34's swarming like ants. To give that monster Stalin his due, he was right when he said:" Quantity has a quality all its own."

    • @rickriede2166
      @rickriede2166 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Germany never had the capacity to produce multiple weapons platforms on a grand scale.They did not possess the strategic materials required for for large scale production, ie chromium ,nickel, cobalt, etc. Even if they did they didn't have enough fuel, not even enough to supply the existing platforms.Another ten thousand tanks with empty fuel tanks would affect nothing.

    • @F-14DTomcat
      @F-14DTomcat  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Even in the best case, if they had time to develop all of these and produce some, it would have prolonged the sufferings of the German people.

    It was NOT a fully developed nor successful aircraft, nor was it the predecessor of all of the aircraft listed.
