- My gamemaster's perspective of "Vaesen", a game about nordic horror by Free League. But it's so much more than that!

Great review! I initially passed on Vaesen, mostly because I didn't think the style was going to work for anyone I game with, and I didn't realize just how much folklore was involved. I initially thought it had more of a modern Scandinavian "true crime" style (and that shows how shallow my initial look at it was). But Free League gave away the PDF for free recently, and then I picked up the solo rules. I'm going to take it for a spin myself and then maybe see if one of my groups wants to give it a shot once we're done with the Dragonbane Misty Vale campaign.
I’m going to start this game soon, thanks for the helpful run down.
Thank you for this detailed overview! That section on how to create a mystery sounds awesome.
Vaesen is one of a few RPGs I've been curious about for a while. Thanks for posting this, as it really helps.
I ran the Dance of Dreams for my group. Half of them LOVED it, and the other half couldn't get on board with a system that wasn't built around heroic fantasy combat. So... it sits on my shelf. I personally prefer this over D&D, but I have to find players that agree
Yeah, horror games are not for everyone. On the other hand, you might find players for Vaesen, that don't like the hack&slay nature of D&D.
Very useful review and overview - many thanks!
Just bought this game. Mostly bc your accent is perfect! Thanks!
And now every time you monster descriptions in the Vaesen rules, you'll hear my voice. ;)
Thank you for this strong overview.
A solid review of a beautiful game.
I'm stealing it way to use monsters.
Been looking at the Walking Dead Game. This is very interesting as well.
You look about 20 years younger than I expected from your voice.
😂
Vaesen!
