The beauty of Hughes' poetry is that it's so eloquent and beautiful, but at the same time it's straightforward and blunt. That's why he's one of the GOATs in my book.

Langston’s poetry always sparks so many thoughts! Listening to a friend’s podcast this morning about the fact that there will always be an Imbalance as long as humans are upon the earth because humans seem to have a need to wield power over each other. America is not the only country where we have to fight against prejudices and for basic human rights. There isn’t a country in the world that doesn’t have an imbalance of power at a small/tribal level or at a high/ governing level.

So good, i love poetry that is short, direct, and so important. Love the call back to Whitman, thanks for that context!

I’m doing this poem for poetry out loud and I really like it. This poem is black pride, anger and determination. They eat in the kitchen because black people before never really had a seat at the table in America. So that’s why tomorrow they’ll be at the table weather other Americans at the table like it or not. Because in the end they’re also Americans who deserve to be at the table and the others will be ashamed for not recognizing that. and also not recognizing all of the black culture and Wills that pushed to be there.
