      I know, I would likely not buy that option - but great to have that option!! What I really like is it is hardy design, simple, no crazy doo dads ... that is what WE want!! I don't want to pay for power roll up bed covers (that don't work), or behind the cab under the bed storage (that leaks and is really not useful for the 98% of us) and the complicated and expensive to repair suspension ... Big Manufacturers take note. This is how you buy out or bring back a brand. You write them a blank check and you let them do what made them popular in the first place. Like Tata did with Range Rover or Geely with Volvo. Loving how VW did this, kept the brand in the US, body on frame and it’s not a VW underneath.

    I just watched the Scout reveal. Having a rear mounted engine as a generator is brilliant for the range extender harvester. Hope that it's not just the Traveller, but the Terra too. That's huge for performance and range. Putting the weight in the rear and keeping the trunk up front is perfect. I'm really rooting for this vehicle to be great. Driveway serviceability and user friendly, what a concept. Factory direct sales bypasses all those dealership markups. If they can hit the advertised price point this sure looks like a winner.

    They had me at "range extender". But everything else looks great, too.
    Huge, heavy, expensive battery packs are not a very good solution, though is necessary for BEV until better batteries, faster charging, and more numerous chargers comes online. Yes they get one the range, but add a lot of expense and weight for those few times one needs the range. Most days, 30 - 100 miles of range is more than enough. But when towing or driving long distances or driving to remote areas, that is when more range shines. A super large battery pack will address some of those situations, but not the situation where there are no fast chargers. We live in a small city with chargers, but tow our fishing boat to a reservoir only 75 miles away, but there are no charging stations along the way or there. Same with the trailheads where we hike, bike, tow dirtbikes/ATVs and snowmobiles, etc. A range extender is a much better solution than carrying around a 200kWh battery pack. A 75 - 100KwH battery pack (for 100 - 200 miles of all battery range) and a range extender would be perfect.
    Until there are many more charging stations available (that work reliably and are not overcrowded) and can consistently do true DC fast charging at a rate of 100 - 200 miles of range in 10 minutes, range extenders are a good bridging solution. Someday the charging infrastructure will be there, but certainly not even close right now unless you only drive near medium or larger cities or on an Interstate corridor. Even large side highways have no chargers. I've been watching and waiting for the day I can own an EV pickup and it's still a long way off, unfortunately, unless some of the these manufacturers that say they will include a range extender actually get their pickups to market.

    • @dvader3263
      @dvader3263 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      50 weeks or more per year, for most people, the EV charger is in their garage.

    • @MrChadx1
      @MrChadx1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@dvader3263 Agreed and much of the attractiveness of BEV, and plug in hybrids, is charging at home. For many, that will care for most of their charging. It would for my wife's vehicle and uses. But for those that live rural and recreate remote every weekend and/or tow even small trailers with driftboats, fishing boats, trailers with ATV/dirtbikes/snowmobiles etc., most BEV won't cut it because the small towns we pass on the way to the trailheads or rivers/lakes have no fast chargers and we can't make it there and back on one charge, unfortunately.
      This is where range extender vehicles come in. There are plenty of BEV choices out there already but not really any fullsize range extender vehicles, so this is another niche with a lot of demand. Great opportunity for manufacturers and good to see someone filling it. It will allow those that want to dip their toes into EV to experience it rather than stay away completely.

    Love the boxy SUV design! I would NOT opt for a glass roof or leather seats. Regarding the rear hatch, I find that a rear-mounted tire often requires a swing door. I’d prefer if the tire were mounted underneath, allowing the rear hatch to open upwards and out of the way. Overall, a handsome SUV-very reminiscent of the Rivian R1S.

    A body on frame PHEV, solid rear axle, locking diffs, mid size, with 10k tow rating, 2k payload, and it is aimed at $60k or less?
    If they manage to deliver the hybrid for around 50k you can bet your caboose I am buying one!
    Now, what remains to be seen is if reality meets expectation and I'm gonna be real, 2027 is a VERY long way off.
    In all honesty I think we will be lucky for this to actually reach the market and I will be shocked if they don't goose the price to over $90k to make it a luxury vehicle.
    The fact that the big manufacturers are ignoring the middle market in favor of luxury goods has left the largest market segment unserved. If these guys are smart and make cost effective versions they will be in a position to eat the lunch of GM, Ford, and Chrysler.

    • @MrChadx1
      @MrChadx1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LarryRichelli Huge, heavy, expensive battery packs are not a very good solution, though is necessary for BEV until better batteries, faster charging, and more numerous chargers comes online.
