...FYI, for future information and reference, I think you can drop just drop the passenger side of the subframe, while supporting the engine like in this video with a Jack. You also place a jack underneath the Unibody frame, underneath the front Passenger side, to support the chassis. The key is to support the engine, above the subframe, and lifting it a couple of inches. This helps a lot, when doing jobs like this. I did these with a 1990 Lincoln Continental, when I had to replace the Rack and Pinion assembly. I placed a large 8x8 piece of timber, which spanned and rested on the two Upper strut mount towers. I used two large cargo straps to hoist the engine, they both went around the timber post and the engine, and I just ratcheted up the engine, from above, until all the weight of the engine was carried by the timber, and not the subframe. It worked like a champ.
This was helpful however i did manage to remove the pan with just jacking the engine up, loosened the subframe bolts and the drivers side mount then had a buddy with a large pry bar pry the whole engine over enough to get the pan down. This was on an awd rendezvous so it maybe not work quite as well in this scenario.
I had to do this on a 2000 impala with the 3.4 litre in order to get at the crankshaft position sensor which was stuck in the block. Having to undo so many things is such is a nightmare. The list goes on and on and its risky being under there like that. Wit and bravery are a must-have on such an endeavor.
Hey there Ken Sorrow, can the subframe be dropped partially to get enough clearance or does it need to come completely down? I am doing this job also. Appreciate your input

If it was my van I would have pulled the engine ...that might have been easyier but way more expensive but you could do alot of other stuff needed to the motor
Man I love DIY mechanics which is why I just supported your channel. Check out my car channel you will enjoy it and perhaps you can support me.. thanks again.
What a pain in the ass I'm gonna try to do mine now since I have my heads off and should clear the sub frame a lot easier...I hope... but it does give me so much more room in the engine bay I'm gonna put new rod bearings in while I'm at it
@@CantKillMe ... 😆 wait till you have to drop the fuel tank on them, to replace fuel pump, or EVAP solenoid that's mounted on top of the tank. I have a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, which is the same chassis, just shorter. I did that in 09/2023, it was a PITA, I even had the rear end 24 inches of the ground on jack stands to do the job -- In The Street. And it was still hot in Texas in September
Never and I mean NEVER have I watched someone totally not know what the hell they were doing! This job is not near as hard as you've made it. I mean dude I'm not trying to hurt your feelings but read up some or seek out a video before you start any job that you're not familiar with. You also could have really hurt yourself with the crazy setup of jacks and boards and pry bars and etc etc.... I usually don't comment on peoples videos and certainly not bust their balls.....but I just had to. Oooh...PS..you don't need to drop the sub frame at all to do this job!
i try to cheet and do it my way ended up have to do what the book said thats why I keep everything I did in for and I dont have $1/2 mil tools to pull the sub out dont like it do a video and show us how to do it with out all the tools
