I notice a lot of people have mentioned how scared they were of this as a child, but I personally thought this logo ident was awesome! Quite a rush of nostalgia seeing this again after all these years.
I remember this logo all right. It's really nice. The Video Collection was a UK-based video company formed in 1984 and established in 1985. The company was renamed to VCI in 1994 due to financial difficulties, and in 1999 the company was sold to the Kingfisher group. In 2004, the company merged with BBC Video to form 2 Entertain. It is now known as 2 Entertain.
This intro scared me so much when I was about 3, I had reptitive nightmares of it till I was 9. Even my parents getting rid of all the VHS with this on, I still remember this today and get goosebumps thinking about it. This jingle is so uncanny in it's tune and I believe that's why this scared so many children, at least, for me that's what was the worst thing about this.
I got scared of this too - and watched it three times in about nine minutes because of that - when I was a small child. I don't remember for sure how old I was.
@@Armorhunterash Sorry for a late reply, it's kind of hard to remember now but it usually involved the red bit of the logo. I would usually spot it in my dreams in the background and then I'd become lucid and it would kind of pop out and take over my entire view and make a big alarming noise. That's usually how it went.
OMG THIS IS IT! I got it confused with tempo and the other video company logo i saw didnt have the full animation like this. Nevermind my previous question. Thank you!!
I found this a little creepy but I did love the buzz of it - I remember as a child having this on some of the videos I watched. Lovely to watch it again :-) 👍!
When I was younger, my mum would take me to the video shop every Friday and I would get the same Thundercats video out... This intro just brings back so many memories!
I had this logo on a lot of Thomas & Friends VHS tapes that I used to have. Other shows I’ve seen it on include Fourways Farm, Sooty, The Magic House, Brum, and Super Mario World.
This logo would have also appeared on two video games. Such as "Donald Duck PK" and "The Simpsons Road Rage" released in Europe on PlayStation 2, Xbox and Nintendo GameCube in 2002.
Seen on a few UK Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers videocassettes released by The Video Collection for Walt Disney Home Video in 1989. Vol. 1 was Pound of the Baskervilles and Flash the Wonderdog. Vol. 2 was Dale Beside Himself and Adventures in Squirrel Sitting.
yeah this logo used to get stuck in my head, and i was also worrying that one of my thomas dvd discs would randomly float into my dvd player and start playing out of nowhere at that time.
I Love This 90's Logo, The Video Collection Logo Is Nostalgic History of Several VHS Tapes, When Thomas The Tank Engine used to be on VHS, The Better Times
I remember this but I cannot remember what my thoughts on it were. I wasn’t scared by it but I guess you could say I was perplexed, I had no idea what it was
Probably because this is the one seen in the early 1990s after they finished the 1980's decade. This logo would read "The Video Collection" and the next logo would read "VCI". It stands for "Video Collection International". This one has a black box with The (in a white font) and Collection (in another white font) and A red box with Video (V in a tall black font and ideo in a white font) while the next logo would have a huge C with a big red ball and the letters V and I above and below (it makes VCI (which stands for Video Collection International)
*AND NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT THE VIDEO COLLECTION'S BEST FRIEND! SO WE HAVE THREE NAVY-BLUE GEESE SHOWN AFTER WIPED-OUT BLUE AND WHITE LINES! AND UNDER THESE GEESE IS THE THREE WORDS ''PICTURE MUSIC INTERNATIONAL!''*
And now let's talk about the animation. For this logo, we have a big TV with a disc above and a triangle below and it rotates in a full direction and comes close to the screen then lines draw along and forum into a rectangle and then it goes smaller then it rotates twice onto a box with the and collection and that word forms from lines, while for the next logo we have a big globe with the C rotating and then rotates again and then it reveals the big red ball in the middle of it, then it flips around (like the rectangle in this/with the sphere in the middle) then the letters V and I would join the C above and below to fours into a character we had.
*LET'S TALK ABOUT THE VIDEO COLLECTION'S BROTHER: SO WERE IN SPACE AND WE SEE THIS GRAY GLOBE SPIN-IN WHILE A BLACK RECTANGLE COMES IN WITH A RED RECTANGLE (just like the video collection but not the video collection.) AND INSTEAD OF THE WORD ''VIDEO'', WE HAVE THE WORD ''STRAND'' AND INSTEAD OF THE WORD ''COLLECTION'', WE HAVE THE WORDS ''HOME VIDEO'' AND SO THERE WE HAVE IT: ''STRAND HOME VIDEO''*
Let's talk about the music for this logo and the next, so we play the beep first and then the huge clap then a synthesis tune over the beep then another clap then a beep, while for the next logo a synthesis that plays the VCI sounds while whooshing around.
Can anyone remember an animated VHS intro bit from the 80s, of a young boy turning around and running into a garden area, possibly towards a fountain? I remember it from my Real Ghostbusters tapes and for the life of me I can't recall what it was about. Possibly advertising the VHS kids collection or something.
As a little kid: found this scary however it did not put me off watching those fantastic videos...as long as I paid close attention to when this ident would appear lol As an adult: actually weirdly relaxing, and what WERE the animation team and creators smoking when coming up with this concept?! Haha 😂
I have that tape when I was nine. My parents bought me a copy of Count Duckula, Inspector Gadget from the Sunday market. I watched the wrong tape with The Video Collection logo it's Jane Fonda tape. I thought was a cartoon? "I must be the wrong video? Nah, just sit back and relax". Interesting of exercise kind of boring Jane Fonda. I check inside the box and I found Count Duckula again for everyone.
Just spotted a blooper in this logo, look at the bottom right corner of the screen at the beginning, you can see the edge of the marble background. I've known this logo since I was 1 year old and only just spotted that!
I really enjoyed watching ( The Video Collection - 1986 U.K. Logo ) because I thought the background music is absolutely awesome, the colourful background is brilliant, the different coloured shapes are moving around everywhere including the titles are fascinating to see, if anyone can still watch this video clip again on TH-cam ( so can I if I'm lucky enough. ) ●♤●■●■●■●■●■●♤●♤♤●♤●♤●♤●♤♡□♡□♡□♡♡□♡□♡□♡♡□♡□♡□♡♡□♡□♡♡□♡□♡□♡♢♢○♢○♢○♢♢○♢○♢○☆♧♧☆♧☆♧☆♧☆♧♧☆♧⊙♧⊙♧⊙♧⊙■●■●■●■●■●■■●■●■●■●■■●■●■●■●■■●■●■●■■●■●■●■■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■⊙■■⊙■■⊙

Instantly transports me back to the late 80s early 90s. I miss those times
Instant nostalgia. Childhood early 90s Thomas the Tank engine VHS tapes. When life was simpler.
The Wind In The Willows, Thomas & Friends, Hanna-Barbera Cartoons & More.
Yes same! Which tape in particular. Mines was Thomas Train, and 17 Other Stories

This intro defined my early childhood. The visuals and instruments were certainly jarring, but as a kid it meant one thing. Thomas the Tank Engine.
This music meant Thomas for me as well
I can relate to all of this,@jacobjcb8883 It almost sounded like Thomas the Tank engine at the end. Indeed lol 😆
I easily remember this logo, for two Thomas & Friends VHS tapes I had.

Not alone on that one
I think I know what you mean. I can see the somewhat distorted sound can definitely creep someone out.
This terrified me as a small child, and continues to unnerve me to this day...
I had this logo on a lot of Thomas & Friends VHS tapes that I used to have. Other shows I’ve seen it on include Fourways Farm, Sooty, The Magic House, Brum, and Super Mario World.
I recall this ident happening before and after various Thomas The Tank Engine, Salvanian Families, Sooty & Co and Brum VHS vids. Memories
Ah nostalgia!
The scariest thing I ever heard.

Not as scary as that intro to the channel 4 documentary Equinox
I remember when I was about 4, as soon as I saw this intro I ran out the room it scared the crap out of me!

Waiting for Rosie and Jim to come on but oh one sec, i need to stuff my face into the sofa until this bit passes

I'm fascinated that so many people found this scary. I did too. There must be some commonality about it that makes it uncomfortable for some people.
This logo would have also appeared on two video games. Such as "Donald Duck PK" and "The Simpsons Road Rage" released in Europe on PlayStation 2, Xbox and Nintendo GameCube in 2002.
Nope... VCI and Strand would just eat Homer and Donald for dinner.
Thomas the Tank Engine, anyone?
The only real creepy part is when the TV tries to 'eat the camera'.
Stuart Gibson yes
Yeah. I was terrified of that logo back then. I would cover my ears when it would come on. I was only three years old.
