    Hi, I am in Houston - not too far. There is a plant nursery here that you would love. The name is JRN nursery on 249. There are 2, but this is my fav. The lady who runs it is asian and knows so much. There are several varieties of each fruit tree such as mango, avocado, sapadillo, etc. It is a true wonderland of different varieties of asian fruit trees. Since I am american, I don't know most of these. She buys from 3 or so wholesale nurseries one of which is Pine Island Nursery in Florida. I was buying my fruit trees from Pine Island and paying shipping. Now it is nice to buy without paying shipping. She just recently recommended the Makok Sapadillo which I bought. I also bought the Nam Doc Mai mango which is my second tree. The first died from the frost.
    Most of my fruit trees are in the ground. You certainly might want to try Jujubees. They taste like apples and grow for us here in the south while apples are a challenge. I ordered my first jujubees from Bay Laurel Nursery (bare root). Bay Laurel is open now for ordering. They are small, prolific and do taste like apples. I bought another jujubee from JRN here in town which is larger. Jujubees will live in zone 6 and so easy to plant in the ground.
    I learned lots from your video and have only watched half of it. I learned about new trees such as the star apple. I will ask JRN about which variety is best. Thanks for taking the time to share this video. We have lots of asian grocery stores here so will try to find the tamarind for the seeds to plant.

    You will find most fruit trees will do better if you have 2 or more varieties, which help with pollination. Plant on mounds to help with wet feet. Maybe swales on contour to slowly direct water off property, and use soil you from making swales to create a raised row for your trees.
    That plastic you have down is killing all your soil life, and it is the bacteria and fungi in your soil that provide nutrients to your trees.
    Trees like a fungi based mulch, so use as much leaves and bark as you can get your hands on.
    You have the makings of a lovely garden, thank you for posting video.

    *The bird chooses you to nest on you dragon fruit plant because it is full of spikes and might deter cats from climbing up there. There's more to a bird brain than we'd like to think. Anyway, you must have a very kind heart that even a bird in the wild is not afraid of you but instead trust you enough to let you film her without flying away.*

    Hello Sir, I was checking for videos on backyard tropical fruit trees. I live in South Florida (zone 9). The soil is very fine sand. After failing in my initial attempts at growing both the mango and avacado trees, I now have 7 mango trees (6 varieties), 5 guava trees (4 varieties), 1 sapodilla, 1 Barbados, 1 lychee, 1 longan, 8 papaya, 1 Asian and 1 Keiffer pear trees all growing well in my backyard. I ate tree ripened mangoes for the first time is over 14 years since moving to the USA. In my front yard I have 7 citrus starapple, blackberries and passion fruit vines all doing well. I have found that with fruit trees, you need to ensure that the trees get appropriate nutrients or they will not fruit.

    Hello, I found your channel from YT suggestion. If you dont mind, I am going to comment as I watch your video.
    The fruit trees you have in the ground look nice and big. When you mentioned that you have had trouble with them fruiting the first thing that came to mind was if you are located in a warm area. In southern LA, it may be too warm for those trees to fruit. The big box retailers will sell you all sorts of trees and plants that are not for the area they sell them in. I learned to do my homework before buying what they have. One thing you may want to look up is "chill hours." Chill hours apply to many of the non tropical fruit. Also, it sounds like your persimmon has regressed back to the root stock. I am now at the part of the video where you show your tropical fruit trees. Very nice collection. They should do well in your area. --Brian

    I wished our Canadian climate was warmer so we could grow tropical fruits up here... Do you plant flowers to help attract bees... They will help pollinate your trees so you get a better fruit harvest..

    Try planting your fruit trees on a mound in the wet areas. Your Alberta peach looks like it on a small mound in a dry area of the yard. Pile the dirt into a mound at least 1 foot tall, to allow the water to drain away from fruit trees. That's why your container trees are responding better. Build mounds. Search peach tree mounds in google.

  • @smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365
    @smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Exactly !! You need 2 different types of trees to pollinate each other. The reason why is because most trees sold,are sold from the same stock of graft to produce the same fruit as the original tree.Make sure you get a tree with low chill hours, like a Golden Dorset and an Anna. They bloom with low chill hours and near the same time.Plant your trees in mounds to get them out of the wet land. They will be fine after that.Liked and shared, great information and I loved the fruit pictures to go along with the plants.What would you charge for a dragon fruit cutting? That is, if you would even sell one.

    • @smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365
      @smokeydabeecharlescoleman8365 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will only help if one of those 4 blooms near the same time as your other types ,and if those types get enough chill hours to even bloom at all.

    I think your apple and pear tree need a pollinator tree to set flowers. They are probably not self-fertile so you would need pollination from different fruit species. Nice backyard, btw

  • @jebahas
    @jebahas 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have a nice collection of various trees & plants. You should be able to grow nice blueberries in the wet ground, providing it doesnt dry out too much. You may have a fungus that could be attacking some of your plants. If this is the case grow heaps of neem trees & put the leaves in the blender to spray on your other plants (care for your bananas).

    • @jebahas
      @jebahas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may also need to grow your trees on super big mounds for good drainage. Also prune back your plants after they knocked over & cut the fruit off any plants that are too premature so their energy goes into producing more leaf & stem growth :)

    so how did the soursop , star apple and other tropicals do in winter ?
    IWHere are you located ?
    I am in New Orleans (Kenner), and i am growing a lot of the same tropicals.
    but i read soursop , star apple and a couple of others are too tropical
    and would not do well.
    i grow starfruit, guava (i have 8 types of guava), mango, longan, lychee, jujube, loquat, papaya...
    (+ a lot more)
    a couple of suggestions...
    try White sapote, Feijoa, Jujube, and loquat.
    all 4 have good cold tolerance.

    Cut off about two inches off the tips of each long dragon fruit branch. It will induce flowering. That is a great jackfruit tree for such a low young plant to start fruiting.

I just bought some tropical fruit trees myself a couple of days ago just now received it thru the mail! I bought lychee, star apple, sapote?, cherry to name a few. I dunno how well they do here in Alabama cuz we got red dirt! But I love trees in general it calms my nerves haha... great video btw and thx for sharing brother!

    @ :50 check Wilson Nursery channel for trimming peach tree. Your persimmon tree is a great rootstock. Order a few different types of scions to graft onto it. Your Satsuma and other trees that are drowning in water you can raise them up on a large mound. Keep an eye out for borers, scales, and spots.
