Good edge, Consistency and Risk Control is the holy grail to trading. And then let your system run automatically. Do not interrupt your algorithms because everything is about probability. Don’t curve fit, don’t filter too much, and let your algorithms run.
Find the mean performance and get stable, I agree.

This is such an easy trap to fall into. I did the same research and came to the same conclusion last year. One easy way to dispel the idea that a really smooth equity curve is better can be by taking a lot of random strategies trading them together and seeing that when traded together they make a really smooth equity curve but that doesn't necessarily mean that together they are all robust. I wouldn't necessarily say that a really good CAR/MDD would mean the strategy is over fitted. Cross validation with another market and other techniques might be a better way to check for the overfitting. I also use CAR/AVGMDD instead since CAR/MDD can be skewed. could I ask you a question? Mite sound silly, but I've bought your book on creating a wining algorithm trading system, and when we do walk forward testing, say we find a profitable system and go live should we still do walk forward testing ever year?
