After getting my Soil science degree, We first started in 1968 placing 10-34-0 about 4" below 20" row corn where the seed would be panted in April. We got better early growth but not much net yield benefit. Back then we were making 175 bu/ac now it's 280. We were planting 32,000 population then. Now with 32K uniform stand emergence in no till and sprinklers . We have gone back to mostly dry 11-52-0 and elemental S. every 4 years we put 4 lbs of Zn. as ZnSo4 We put 2/3 N as Ammonia and 1/3 P in a knife to make a planter path in March and planting in May. In the Texas Panhandle we are blessed with clay soils that have 40ppm of p and 400ppm of K .

5-20-20 @ 200 lbs in 2X2 seems to be common knowledge by now.
So are you guys looking at placing AMS and KMAG in the 2X2 band??? Zn??? and other micro nutrients????
According to OMAFRA fertility recs a soil testing 13 ppm for P and 101 ppm for K would require only 18 lbs of P and 27 lbs of K???
A 200 bu corn crop pulls ~75-80 lbs of P2O5 and ~50-55 lbs of K20 out of the ground.
Using these recs we are mining soils and driving levels lower. Something has gotta change here guys.

The plant stand at the 1:48 mark had plants with 3 cobs... I'm quite fond of 2 cobs in great areas that can support it. But otherwise a plant with 3 cobs has 1 small one and 2 predatory ones.

My take away from this video and most other's on TH-cam is this: that this program worked for this field...and it may work for your field...but in the process you sell some chemical. We have fields that start off the year with 120 pounds of N and 270+ of P(hog manure land)...given that information and the talk of this video...we should have max yield with a little top up of N and K...but it doesnt work that way. Fields with higher organic material will outperform those with high nutrient added pre plant. Without talking about OM layer...your just selling chemical.
