Have you lived in capitalist Dr congo or India or any other poor capitalist country, then you cant say anything about capitalism. See how stupid that sounds, its not an argument, of course people who were born into capitalist countries havent lived in communism. According to you they cant wish for a better future because your thinking is limited into this black and white, either capitalist wage slave labor or everyone works in gulags. You have your comfortable life in the west because people in the third world suffer. Commmunism is only fully achieved when its global, classless, moneyless, stateless thus no one person is exploiting others. All communist countries tried to achieve full communism but there wasn't enough time, some bad decisions and a lot of US aggression, but still all communist countries achieved what capitalism never could have even dreamt of in the second world. Marxism isn't this moralistic way of thinking you think it is, its trying to solve the systemic failures of capitalism with a new system of organizing, this takes time and tremendous amount of political power and philosophical/historical awareness that you dont have at all, so please quit your yapping and start using your brain.

If the population of the country is starving, and you (along with your family) go to camps simply because the government thinks you disagree with them or the dictator, does anything else really matter? Also, why does North Korea do their best to keep everything a big secret? I'm not sure how many places (especially outside of Pyongyang) are actually houses rather than just walls that are meant to look like houses. Again, 'good working conditions' (lol) mean nothing if you can't afford to eat or are forced to work in camps or anywhere else. What the N. Korean government does to its citizenry is *criminal* but they are protected by China and nukes primarily. Of course the average N. Korean citizen not affiliated with the govt. or military wouldn't commit crimes because they are terrified. North Korea has no healthcare that I'm aware of, unless you consider the military killing people for trying to escape as "healthcare" 🙄 Finally, North Korean university/education is a worthless propaganda machine that of course has no merit anywhere else and only serves to indoctrinate the populace.

It's like how some people wonder why Americans don't just fix their potholes. Answer is, we just can't do that, legally that is.
The city or state has to fix it, and they spend like tens of thousands of dollars on a single pothole that only cost like a hundred dollars, 50 for the material and another fifty for the manhours/labour, to fix. A foriegner will ask why Americans are so stupid for driving on roads with potholes. No, it's not that. It's that try filling up a pothole on your own and see what happens. The city or state will come after you. Or fix a broken wall. The city will tear the wall down, the one you fixed, and fine you for repairing it, and then they'll say they will fix the wall in a year or so.

I mean, sure, the DPRK is not a great place to live, as it is clearly under authoritarian rule and the population especially in the countryside probably suffer a great deal, but some arguments here are just plain stupid. For instance, one can't just simply blame the dictator of the DPRK for not providing enough food and for widespread poverty in the country. That is at least pushed if not caused in the first place by the Korean War and its fallout, e.g. Trade sanctions by the US and the EU among others going back decades. Of course, South Korea is better off regarding wealth and supply. It is backed by the world's largest economic power, that being the US. All that while the DPRK is internationally basically completely isolated, which is in some part self-made through aggression and rhetoric, and in some part engineered by the western powers at be. GDP is another Thing. The DPRK is far behind the South ind GDP. Yes. BUT: The DPRK is at least on paper a socialist/communist state and has a planned economy. The Economy is not designed for using GDP as even a Metric to be taken into consideration. It's like comparing a Giraffe and a Dolphin on their ability to swim. Obviously the Dolphin, that is build for swimming, will win. With all that said, I'm not saying it is a better place to live than say any EU Country or the US. Just trying to say that this type of discourse warrants at least some form of antipolemic/ antipopulist rhetoric. Instead of just saying, "Communism bad cause no money" and "DPRK bad because people actually do be kinda short". There are very valid arguments to be made against the DPRK as a state. Why not use them, instead of just answering to propaganda with other propaganda.

The problem is that the DPRK has direct economic relations with the second largest economy on the planet, as well as the Russian Federation. There is little excuse for North Korea having such a piddly economy when there is such mineral wealth and a massive outlet market just north of them. They have allies, they have for decades, and they have had opportunities to open up. However, an authoritarian state which spends a vast majority of the nation’s economic revenue on it‘s military is what killed North Korea. Nuclear programs took precedence over social and agricultural programs. North Korea for many decades had a larger economy than the South mainly stimulated by trade with China and the Soviet Union.
