The Sikh Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army that recruits from the Sikh community. It is the most highly decorated regiment of the Indian Army and in 1979, the 1st battalion was the Commonwealth's most decorated battalion with 245 pre-independence and 82 post-independence gallantry awards, when it was transformed into the 4th battalion, Mechanised Infantry Regiment.[3][4][5] The first battalion of the regiment was officially raised just before the annexation of the Sikh Empire on August 1 1846, by the British East India Company. Currently, the Sikh Regimental Centre is located in Ramgarh Cantonment, Jharkhand. The Centre was earlier located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The modern Sikh Regiment traces its roots directly from the 11th Sikh Regiment of the British Indian Army. When transferred to the Indian Army like its sister regiments, the numeral prefix (in the case of the Sikh Regiment, 11) was removed and extra battalions were raised, transferred or disbanded to meet army needs. With a humble beginning of two battalions, today the fraternity has grown to a regiment of 19 regular infantry and two reserve battalions strong.Units

I've reviewed many parades while in the Marine Corps. I was a U.S. Marine (retired), and amazed by how sharp they look dressed and marking!! India's finest!

I am now 75 years old , But as a small boy of severn the first picture I saw which shocked me was of " Our " Sikh indian soldiers being used as target practice by the fiendish Japanese . The Indian army numbered 3 million in strength. It made a vital contribution to the freedom we have enjoyed since 1945. I humble thank them and all who fought in the allied cause.

Study has shown that a soldier could typically shoulder a load that is about 33% of his body weight. Indian soldiers are just under-nourished. Today many advanced countries are already employing technology to help improve load-carrying. US has the best logistics capability in its forces. Your commanders need to improve in knowing sport nutrition for your soldiers and to leverage technology to improve your armed forces’ fighting force and not just doing this sort of parade pageantry for the ego of the higher command. Deg Teg Fateh is shouted by the Sikh Soldiers as a Sikh War cry. It was inscribed in official Sikh government coins in both Sikh Empires of Banda Singh Bahadur & Maharaja Ranjit Singh. It signifies Victory of the cooking pot and Victort of the Sword. This means in Sikh Raj no one goes hungary and no one suffers injustice. The slogan Deg Teg Fatah is followed by Panth ki Jeet, Raj Karega Khalsa!!

If they fight as well as they march, it would be an unpleasant, losing experience for any enemy to engage them.
Definitely very adapted British drill, but adapted and emphasised where a difference is noticed but also with a bit of American Army drill (Banner drill group) thrown into the mix. We of the British Army (ex) that served were taught "dig, dig, dig!" in drill and this is clearly seen here to promote the unique difference in marching style. Well done The Sikh Regiment.

I have great respect for the Sikhs for their bravery and sacrifice. Back in 1960s when I was in Jamshedpur, the Hindu Muslim riot had started. I was living in a Tata Company house next to a Muslim slum. A dirty nalla divided the densely populated Muslim slum and the Tata housing colony. One day we saw Muslims chanting 'Allahu Akbar' repeatedly. Muslims started gathering in the Muslim slum looking across the nalla towards the Tata housing. Many Hindus in the Housing locked their doors, many moved fast to the get away from the area. Meanwhile I saw a Sikh man with drawn sword standing next to the nalla which borders the Muslim slum. I admired his courage and I respected him.
Unfortunately, things had not been the same since the late 70s and 80s. Sikhs are divided between the Bhindranwalas and others. I saw hatred in the eyes of many Sikhs towards Hindus, and I did not know why. I stopped going to Sikh houses because I don't know whom I will meet and how much he will insult me. I do not have any Sikh friend now. But I still respect them.

Impossible, like tradition, history are inside us. I think not only Sikh soldiers, but Ghurkas are the one of the Best in the World ( with Polish soldiers).
Off course brother Ghurkas are also brave and fearless. Whole Indian Army is on the summit.

When Britain free's itself from the EU we should strengthen our ties with India. The Sikhs are the best soldiers in the Indian army, love the bag pipes a legacy from the British.
The bag pipe came from the east not the British. India had pipes long before the scots or irish.
The Ghurkas or Goorkas are surely up there with the Sikhs, not much in it I grant you. Great soldiers all!

Do you really think that those boys that just took the pledge of serving India really want khalistan? Then justice for sikhs is already done, INDIRA GANDHI is dead the party that created the mess is out of power.
