I really enjoy these videos. I have been a ham operator for 40+ years, and I find that there are still things I learn by viewing Peter's videos. Thanks for putting these great videos together.
Brian is a great character I like his channel… it’s good you have a contact halfway around the world for regular contacts… experimenting and reports… I’m trying different things with antennas… I have a long wobbly doublet and just bought a spider pole from you for vertical efforts… Your reports with Brian and antennas goes along with the ham principle… put the wire out…see if it works. Best wishes.73. 💙
There are a lot of zero to hero 'experts' with TH-cam channels and many followers but very few of them havent a fraction of your wisdom and experience. Keep it up Peter. 73. Brian VE3GUE
Very good video I had a g5rv junior for about a year and changed it for a full version to get on 80m. However, for 40m and up, the junior seemed to work better. I also have an FT 710 and it's the best I've ever owned. And I've had 2 FT 890s, a 450 and a Drake tr7. The 710 is the best of the lot. Thanks again for a great video...but they're all great.
Follow-up on the FT-710... Some of my ham friends with this radio spend time in the menus adjusting this and that but I only use the factory default except for mic gain. I set it up to 75 from 50 because my voice is pretty soft and this way I don't have to shout so much.
I tried a g5rv many years ago but got a lots of noise, and since then I have tried td2ft ok antenna. and a endfedd ok antenna that too, but I have ent up with a fan dipole it works well and is about 9 meters above the ground and I have had contact with brazil several times and australia japan on 30 watt from northern Norway 😀 La2vla
I've been trying to persuade an auto-ATU manufacturer to make a balanced I/P version that can be dumped in a ip65 tupperware box that could be mounted externally & could be matched to this antenna for an easy & efficient system. Have you also considered that if you are near a very big tree running a 51' half size g5rv vertically isn't impossible ( omnidirectional & not requiring an earth)
I have heard good signals here in Wales from ZL on 40M ssb during the dawn and dusk times. Good dx I guess. however, regarding distance the best dx I have heard was on a friends station who was using moon bounce on 70cm. Something like 476,000 miles between stations.
Its not that long ago that planning and running SKEDS was the only way to communicate to remote places. Pitcarn ran like 25 watts on 20 and 40 for years as the only link to the world. One thing now is receivers are sooo much better.
I llearn something every time from Peter's videos - in an easy enjoyable way - he's also secured my order for a FT - 710 .
Wow thanks. You will love that radio.

Fantastic informative look into our great hobby, and what can be achieved with a basic setup. I continue to learn and enjoy radio everyday. 73.
Great to hear.,

Thanks for sharing. Yep a great radio.

Mine is also basic factory settings. Before fiddling too much make sure you know where the reset button is!

Correctimundo...
Good video I have a half size g5rv need to move it from over the house to across the back yard
Good idea, once the storms are over!
Hi sir you are turly the David Attenborough of ham radio 73s from 9z4apa.
i wish! But nice words. Thanks for your support.

Yes a fan dipole gives a nice match. Thanks for sharing.

710 is fantastic for /p use as well
Agreed
The ATU does a great job. I wish the ATU of my FT DX 10 would do the same😢 I am wondering about the SWR on 15m the FT 710 ATU does it 👍
I would have expected the ATU to be the same. Trying making the ciax feeder a bit longer - it can work!
Good evening.
Good night

Yes,i ran an R107 as my first receiver. How things have x]changed.
When's the FTX 1F arriving ??? 🤷
This year! Can’t be more accurate than that at moment.
@watersstanton ok thanks 👍🏻
Peter could you do a video on long and short path?
What more do you need to know?
Many misunderstand swr as a measurement of antenna efficiency
Yes, it’s not all bad be3s.
