- Kimi Werner goes to the Big Island for a friend's celebration of life and also gets in a night dive with her friend Justin Lee and Captain Asa. It's lobster season in Hawaii and by law you need to grab them by hand, so it's much more productive to go at night when the lobsters are out and about. Though there's no limit, Kimi and Justin set their own personal bag limit and set off to fill it. By morning, Kimi is tired and worn out, but the the sun comes up just in time to end the adventure with Kona crabbing and spearfishing! Lobster Benedict, raw crab poke and a seafood stew are all some of the culinary experiences shared by these friends as they say goodbye to their fellow diver, Mike Hong by spreading his ashes.

Aloha. Happy for another great episode, sad it’s the last of the series. Will keep an eye out for whenever you pop up again. Miss my night diving nights, but they were some of my best memories of Lanai.

I lived in Hawaii for 7 years, was sent there to manage a construction project and ended up being contracted to manage 2 more, then hired by a local company to stay. Was on Kauai for 2 years and Oahu for 5 years. I gained so much respect for the local culture and morals they adhere to in there personal efforts of conservation. My buddy on Kauai “Ben”, is like the mayor of Kauai, lol. And the best hog hunter in the islands. Kimi is a unexpected but awesome addition to Meateater!!!

The end of this story flooded my eyes. I lost my father two years ago. Early this morning I dreamt of my father. In my dream he was in the nursing home. He was happy and lucid and fawning over a friend who came to visit him. He fetched a tea cart for her and he was so happy. Suddenly I woke up and I smiled and I loved the brief moment I got to spend with him in my dream.
It is no wonder this series does so well. What a great crew! I thought I was the only one that got the stink eye for being so awake for "all hours" adventures! Mahalo!

I remember doing a Manta Ra dive off of Kona in 97, which was not only one of the best dives I ever did but was also one of the easiest. Just after we got in i saw the crew from the dive shop, that I went to get a new mask at heading out for lobster. I was so jealous.
