You're right, not good changes at all in those flanks, I still have high hopes in the rest of the gameplay though, Dragon and Mecha riding might be game changers if done correctly.
Everything about this game is perfect except that I think that making this game RT mandatory is absolutely stupid. My bet is that order came from Microsoft, trying to corral everyone to play it on Xbox. Not all of us Doom fans are PC hardware reviewer journalists with the privilege of keep toting the newest GPUs on the market, not in this economy, so xbox it will have to be for all of us... And honestly the visual uplift from the last game isn't that immediately visible. In fact when real RT techniques are on you have to know the kind of details you are looking for, because mostly if you blink you miss it, and even more so in games with this fast pace gameplay. Optional Path Tracing should for now be to future proof games. You just have to take a look at Steam's hardware survey to see that most are barely on 2070's. Unless id software does some sort of optimization sorcery 90% of PC gamers won't be able to run this above 20 frames per second.
Doom should always be a high refresh rate experience. Why were they even showing 60fps as a target in their recommended specs for PC? If you are running Doom at 60fps, you are lagging or you are playing with a controller on console, you need to turn down your settings or upgrade. This RT requirement is concerning. My 3080 ran Doom Eternal on Ultra (not nightmare or RT of course) at 1440p native 240fps almost locked.... lets see how the 5080 does with this game. Considering the card is both more expensive and 4 years newer, there should be no issues... right.
the eye can barely perceive past 60 fps, you just like when the computer make the big number on the line graph. Most of the people who even need to stay above 120fps at all times while they're getting gαпgbαпged on Ultra Nightmare Master Level difficulty are going to have their graphics set way the hell down anyways.
@@BronzeAgePepper Please shutup with that bs about what the human eye can perceive. It's completely nonsense. It can perceive way past 60fps, 60fps is choppy. When playing a fast paced shooter with lots of camera movement, even 120fps doesn't feel that good, it doesn't start to feel truly smooth until pushing the mid 100s and I could absolutely tell the difference 10/10 times. I didn't play on nightmare or ultra nighmare, I played on Ultra which is 2 steps down. I had RT disabled and I got 240fps native res 1440p on the same tier card at the time. If that performance is now not achievable then the optimisation has regressed.

Doom 2016 was "okay", but Doom 3 was the last good Doom game. Especially when you play it in a dark room with headphones on.
Doom is not a horror game, doom is a fps with horror aspects. I really like the fact they're not falling into making a tacky copy of Amnesia or Outlast, that's not Doom, this is doom. If you liked Doom 3, you liked an exploration that treaded outside of what Doom is and was a commercial failure, and that is ok, but it's not sane to think id software will produce a AAA game aimed towards the 2% of the fanbase that preferred Doom 3 style over the original.
What are you talking about? The Doom franchise has always been fast-paced, arcade-y, not-to-be-taken-seriously action. The game looks great, but I don't think it looks like it couldn't be rendered to look almost exactly the same without raytracing hardware. The diffuse shadows with variable penumbra could be done using conventional shadowmapping techniques (i.e. stochastic soft shadows, percentage closer soft shadows, variance shadow mapping, etc).
The raytracing “look” is impossible without raytracing hardware. It’s not just the baked lighting; it’s how light interacts with the world. That can’t be stimulated. I can immediately tell the difference between when it is on and off in games it’s supported by.
@@TheRealRayMillsToo Been a graphics programmer for 25+ years, I'm well-rehearsed with graphics, and I will repeat what I said: I'm not seeing anything in DTDA that warrants raytracing.

Too much lasery particles and ui elements everywhere imo. If a game has nice gritty graphics, i’d like to see it
Modern ID loves to put "look how badass we are" in all their games. Classic Doom was never like that. It was far more restrained and the game spoke for itself. It didn't need to TELL you ever ten seconds how cool it was. It just WAS cool. That's the fundamental problem with modern ID.
doom 2016 has prolly my favorite arena mp and seeing them constantly take steps back with mp is actually a huge disappointment. i dont get hyped day 1 for this type of single player bc i can play it later and hopefully its bargain by then. overhyped and a misstep imo
Based on what they showed, it looks a lot less interesting to me than Eternal. Still looking forward to checking it out, but not as exciting for me really.
TBH, when they were showing off Doom Eternal it didn’t look as good as it actually is. I’m sure there will be a much higher skill ceiling than shown in the gameplay teaser. Eternal will stay my favourite most probably but DA looks super promising and different but has more eternal DNA than 2016s imo.

Also cool that they done something different, that you are now more like tank. But anyway I was a Tank and also fast in Doom Eternal with Minigun shield mod.

I heard that extra lifes are still in game. I hated those in Doom Eternal.... I hope you can actually turn them OFF in settings with the new custom difficulty sliders.
Also afraid of game optimatization. Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal was well optimized, but there wasn't any real physics like with water or trees, it was just 100% about the gameplay. And here I see that my RTX2070 super can choke on the game :(
