They're actually not that difficult to deal with. Those barrages are energy damage. Reverse Shield Polarity loves that. Pop evasive and RSP, the barrages are no problem. Its the frickin' Anchor Drone/beam that drives me up a wall as there is no counter other than destroy the offending source.
Those cluster torps are what put them in the ‘Fury’ category for me. I’ve gotten better at dealing with them with higher levels but when you first encounter them is a different story.

Iconians with Intel powers did some stupid stuff back when first added. Breen used to be able to flatline your power levels. They could actually have your shields go offline solely due to power drain.

For me its more when your engie team is on cooldown because your DPS just mows through them and you get fresh ones coming in with fresh Viral Impulse Burst. Its the same issue I have with the Hirogen in 9th Rule. Kill them fast enough, FRESH ships come in with FRESH cooldowns... and... kiss your buffs goodbye don't even bother with them.
I'm always terrified when the breen show up in Jupiter Gauntlet. They always hit me with SubNuke, and Endothermic Inhibitor, while I'm swarmed by tractor beams.
Hey Stu! Love your content. If I may make one suggestion - could you maybe use the faction symbol on the ship image somewhere if you do another tier list like this? The red highlights on a mirror borg cube versus a Borg Cube or CONTROL cube are kinda hard to spot, especially on mobile.
Mo'kai, for that viral Impulse burst, nuff said. Vaadwaar and Heralds both make my list, choosing targets or using specific abilities in a pinch can be really tough on console sometimes, the number of tiimes I have blown up because I cant target the Eye of Sauron Beam, or the tiny Vaadwaar tractor beam drone holds me in their cluster torpedo minefield zone in Elite TFO's is crazy.
Shoutout to the Hirogen sub nuke disabling all firing mode buffs too so no more spread, surgical, faw or overload, love it. (ALSO, reduce recharge time on it)
honestly Hirogen aren't hugely dangerous... they just disable your offense. Stu forgot how Hirogen can use scramble sensors to cause you to lose target lock. I would put Breen higher actually. Breen using Tyken used to be able to FLATLINE your power levels. They could fully disable your ship with energy drain unless you had something to give you bonus power levels. Breen at least used to be able to drain shield power hard enough to knock your shield offline completely. Also, his hatred of Mokai seems to be a complaint mostly related to park and shoot builds.
When compared on the Dranuur Gauntler, I think the Voth are the hardest, due to the great durability of the dreadnoughts and the reflecting damage ability. Of course you have to play on elite, those from the Dyson sphere does not count. The Mo'kai ability has a range of only 5km, just like the Mirror Borg ability, the difference is that the Mo'kai only sends you on a trip, while the Borg deals big blows.
When the Terran faction first released, I'd definitely consider that a Fury Induced Rage Quit experience. Their escorts had that point defense system that would absolutely melt you, and their quantum torps were almost always instant kill. They're not as bad now. Vaadwaur are still the most consistently annoying enemies. Between the Anchor Drones and Barrage spam, I'm constantly having to pop major CDs to stay alive, and hope I don't catch a Subnucleonic Beam all the while.
I remember the D'deridex when I was new to the game. It was such a PITA. I ended up having to actually go and buy the Prometheus from the shop to get past it. I have since learned how to properly do it, but I still remember those early days.
100% agree about the Mokai! Rhe single most annoying thing in the game! The only thing I find raging about the borg, is the spheres when they use shield drain.
Man I hate fighting: Vaadwuar: their polaron barrage and heat seeking tricobalt torpedo/mines are annoying. Discovery KDF; Viral Impulse Burst everywhere, constantly, all the time. Also Transport Warhead, why yes I do want a torpedo to cause 25-50% of my hull to vanish with no stopping it, thank you! Breen: Their transphasic torpedo's under Spread hits surprisingly hard, also their ability disables are a pain if they catch you on cooldown. Tzenkethi: Invulnerable all the time, every time. Also Gravity Kills, enough said. everything else is so much easier.
There IS a counter to transport warhead. Not sure what there is other than intel team though. But it's also a good reason to have something like Aux2SIF for a short term DRR boost. It only ignores SHIELDS, it doesn't ignore ARMOR.
I almost forgot about that damned cloak tracking torp, it's like playing with a 5 year old, they just keep pulling random crap out to keep you from winning
The wrex pilot escort is a very good counter to the Vaudwar if you know what you're doing in terms of creating your build. It's usually fast enough to dodge the barrage ability of those ships outright even when you're not using evasive maneuvers or full impulse. Mokai on the other hand are legit fury inducing rage quits because not only of that viral impulse ability, but their BOPs are simply bigger hur'q swarmers with bigger guns. Voth really become difficult in the dyson sphere space when you have to take out their battle groups unless you have a group of other players there to help out.
I know that this is mainly based on space, but i'd put mirror borg on Kinda Difficult purely because they have the whole healing crystal thing, which can sometimes make an encounter a bit more difficult then you'd normally get with the borg
I would have moved the mirror borg to "kinda difficult" because on elite, the Assimilators have a really mean hull drain ability that you can't remove from yourself. It's basically a 1 shot kill if you don't have enough healing on you. Where would you put the Undine on this list? (They show up quite a few times) Happy Holidays Mr. Stu!!!
Honestly, even though they're only in the one mission so far, the Son'a could potentially be classified as Fury Induced Rage Quitting - that boss you have to fight spams an ability that makes Energy Weapons heal it. Unless you're already flying a torpedo build, the first time you ever bring a character into that mission, you will not be prepared for it, and even when you are prepared, the friendly NPCs in that mission will still shoot at it with their beams - it doesn't heal it as much as player weapons obviously, but it can still make the fight overstay its welcome. And on the subject of boss fights that spam healing... the Mirror Borg Unimatrix in "Scorpion's Abyss" just keeps farting out _so many_ Regeneration Probes. Even with my best builds, that boss can take about 20 minutes of just constantly spamming spread or AoE abilities and keeping my eyes peeled in case any Regen probes are sitting out of range. It's not enough to ruin the whole faction, largely because we fight the Mirror Borg plenty of other times without the boss, (unlike the Son'a), but its absolutely my least favorite combat encounter in the entirety of STO.
Korfez the turei part is an absolute joke, so the vaudwaur in that part of korfez is just a complete joke, constriction anchor with those polaron barrages plus there are like 100 heavy artillery vessels Vs just 5 of you in the tfo. The turei part needs serious work.

What annoys me the most with Mo'kai and Hirogen is that without their tricks they're pretty much cake walks, they're not hard they have this one trick that makes them extremely annoying.
my most hated enemy to fight is anything with feedback pulse. as someone who uses beams exclusively, having to limit myself to consoles to fight them for the whole duration is just plain annoying.
I didn't know that The krenim have no temporal abilities, I'm thinking I thought they had because I only have the event ship and timeline stabiliser made me think it had it. Talk about a Mandela effect 😂
They have temporal THEMED ship powers, but it's not the same powers we have as BOff abilities. So they do have temporal abilities... with a small t....
I would have put the Cardassians as easy win, as they are so early in the game. Although I can understand an argument for Reasonable Challenge, when facing the two Keldons above Bajor, with their ship replication. That killed me a few times early on. Honestly, I think STO did the Cardassians dirty, and really needs to revisit them top to bottom.
The vardwarr are one of the hardest, but it's usually because the modern games story gear you get before you fight them, are pretty non existant you don't get any nice bonus sets unless you play the one dyson mission on repeat and the old dominion and breen story arcs, and even then there very meh due to not being updated but that's also why the older arcs give you nothing before delta but goodish stuff after.
I disagree with placing the Federation at Easy Win. The reason I say this is because they use a lot of console abilities that are available to players like Escorts having Point Defense (REALLY annoying for Carrier Captains to deal with). Not only that, the Federation and the Terrans share the same AI and ship classes. You get high level Feds you're basically fighting the same kind of ships as Terrans, all with console abilities. You may be right about Early Fed, but if you happen to get Endgame Fed... its the same as the Terrans, maybe worse because I don't think Terrans can have NPC Vestas Also you forgot the Undine.
Federation is not a easy. You just never battled against the frigates with the point defense system. It could wreck an elite player on normal if your not careful. It does 80k DPS (times 8) to the player on Elite. Not sure if bugged. Any fed ship with a Quantum spread III will also one-shot the player on elite. (190k times 4.)
Vaadwar and Iconians should be Rage Inducing due purely to the obnoxious Constriction Anchors and Virus Probes respectively since FaW seems to largely ignore them. Other than that, Hirogen should be in Kinda Difficult (they don't seem to use their annoying abilities all that much, the others spam them) and you might be giving too much credit to the Bore-g's fighting abilities. Also, Disco-Klingons are more annoying than you let on: seriously STOP Viral Impulse Bursting me into planetary atmospheres!

Builds are very reliant on being able to activate abilities. Subnuc completely disable the ability to activate them. Thus: annoying. VIB is just as because because it ends me careening out of range of everything.

When testing my ships survivability I always test it against the Vaadwaur. They are easily the hardest hitting enemy faction in the game.

Being someone who does a lot of Research and Rescue, the Mokai Klingons are challenging.
Also, I have rage quit versus the Vaudwaar. When they get an ability that shuts off your engines, they get a barrage off, GRRR!
Btw the Borg are starting treks version of zombies. How are they not harder in the game

Viral Impulse Burst has only a range of 5 km, so stop sticking to them and you'll be fine. ;)
