I really appreciate the whole meaning behind the unlimited bladeworks world. Shirou's father told him to never miss a day of practicing magic. As Archer went forward in his life being removed from time as he lost himself and turned his back on his ideals, this one gesture showed that he never fully gave up looking up to his father. It was a the last connection he had with himself and showed that he never fully abandoned his idealism towards his father. Maybe the VN explains it differently but thats how it looked to me
Well, the VN did explain it differently Kiritsugu sabotaged Shirou's attempt to use Magecraft out of his own safety, but Shirou went ahead and create his own Magic Circuit out of nerves end which, in turn, cause him great pain every time he use Magecraft

Like in practicing magecraft everyday he's super inconsistent with his reinforcement and can never project anything but once his life is he line or he's fighting to defend someone he can do it. A proper sword is created to be used in combat, to hurt or kill people. That is who Shirou is despite desiring with every figure of his being to help people.

Maybe I'm reading to deep into this but a few things line up too perfectly. I quite like the idea of Shirou's Crest being a fish. Specifically a Carp. He's no dragon incarnate like Saber is but the Carp/Koi is the next best and most fitting fantastic creature for Shirou. In chinese mythology the carp swims upstream to leap the Yellow River at Dragon Gate, transforming into a Dragon. As for the things that line up: Chinese (Kansho and Bakuya, Chinese swords) Swimming upstream (The hardships of Shirou.) Leaping (The repeatedly failed high jumps.) Yellow River and Dragon Gate (In this case Shirou literally past Gate of Babylon.) Also doesn't help that his opponents are either taller than him(Berserker, Archer, Kuzuki) or standing on higher ground (Rin, Caster, Archer, Gilgamesh).
This is one of the interpretations of Shirou's symbol during his time with Rin. But another one is also the lewdest Intepretation, I mean that Shirou's "Fish" is actually a dolphin of sort, which means it signifies Shirou and Rin's very lewd Mana Transfer.
Gil: The whale who have every 5&4 star servants but never maximize their full potential. Shirou: The F2P who only acquire certain 4&5 servants but maximize all of his low rarity servants to it's full potential.

Love the detail at 2:47 Gilgamesh hesitates for a split second because he doesn’t want to use his most prized treasure but realises he has no choice. That split second hesitation however was all that was needed for Shirou to finish his attack.
Actually he hesitated because he know that wouldn't solve the problem of speed when Shirou spell it out for him. In the source material, Shirou didn't bother to inform him about "being always one step ahead", so Gilgamesh didn't hesitated in there.
Gilgamesh was not expecting shirou to rival his swords spamming skills, and when shirou pointed that he was weaker than him, gil felt challenged by that, that s why he didnt use ea, in a scene you can also see gil esitation, hope you understood now

This gotta be the most amazing fucking fight. The words shirou said to gilgamesh, the fact that shirou used archer abilities, the build up, the music, animation, choreography, everything. I was so hyped that my head hurts. This must be what i should feel when jotaro faces dio, but i didnt feel anything because of spoilers. Im glad this fixed things up. And this is the 2nd time im watching this series, but this time its so much better cuz i watched fate zero first.

In fate route he can copy experiences of arturia wielding caliburn for a short while but his human body cannot keep up for long with the weapon especially when he requires training to mastee that power. And without rins mana helping him he can only use one sword at a time. Shirou has to get closer to archers level over many decades of his life and even then his servant form is still stronger. And even on top of that archer emiya is not anywhere close to being strongest servant, he gets by on resourcefulness and studying his opponent, things shirou has trained to be able to do over many years of experience

Except for Apoc. But in that case, Sieg was basically fighting Amakusa using Frans and Siegfried's powers if I remember correctly, so It sort of doesn't count. I think it was a good decision tip the scales harder to the servants side.
fun fact: Gil was never fighting seriously or was too prideful to so do. As he was not wearing the armor of kings, an impenetrable armor who even saber's strikes just bounces off. He also did not use his divine aegis who can stop just about anything
Wrong, he absolutely went all out by the end, he just got overwhelmed… Even the final EA use didn’t matter because he was just too slow, and EA needs charging. He should’ve just killed shirou before he activated unlimited blade works

If it was a fight between servants he would have leaped backwards or used aegis to deflect but he never treated shirou as a threat, causing him his life.
I think people drastically down scale the power emiya has in this fight, creating a reality marble in itself is a feat very few servants are capable of let alone normal people, this also implies that Rin has enough magic energy to cast one herself but that’s not the point, emiya took on Gilgamesh who is ranked incredibly high on the list of heroic spirits and emiya took him on and won, let’s not downscale how absolutely badass this is

Made all the worse cuz it was merely one moment of hesitation that allowed Shirou to get the jump on him. And worse still since the reason Gil hesitated at all is because his pride prevented him from going all out in the first place.

The hesitation only happened in the anime. It was a way to demonstrate how prideful gil really is, thus gil did not lose because he hesitated, he lose because he his pride would not allow him to use EA against someone as weak as Shirou. Once he try to grab EA Shirou won because it shows that he needed his strongest weapon to kill Shirou of all people.

Tsukishima Kei him using Ea would be him admitting that he needs to use his most powerful weapon against someone he considers a worm, that's why he said that Shirou was the winner after this fight even though Shirou was about to be killed before grail ex machina. In the VN however, Shirou was about to kill Gilgamesh but the grail interrupted that.

@@BloodyMaryV In the original novel, Once he realized Gil realized he was losing, *he didn't hesitate to pull out Ea at all.* During the fight, Shirou knew ahead of time Gilgamesh's Ace in the hole and was waiting for the moment where he could shut it down and claim victory. In the novel, this scene shows off Shirou's strategy in battle prowess. In the anime his victory is because Gilgamesh got cocky. And while that is a total Gilgamesh way to go out, it underminds Shirou's victory. It's something minor that I wish was illustrated in the anime proper

Klein Azzel In the VN he goes for EA and don't hesitate but shirou notices him goinf for that sword and cuts his arm before he can get EA other difference is that in the VN Shirou doesn't run out of mana in the end. But i like the modifications that ufotable made to this fight, it became even more hype than before. If you watch this fight in the studio deen version it's closer to the VN but not as epic as the ufotable version.
This scene actually has some pretty deep hidden lore. See that red and black sword Gilgamesh was about to use on Shirou? That's Ea. An Anti-World level noble phantasm that can pretty much blow up anything in its way. But that's not it's ultimate strength; Ea actually stands for EA, Electronic Arts. The company famed for abusing its player base in order to extort as much money as they can, way more than is normally really needed for producing their games and turning profit. So why would EA try to exploit people for such an absurd amount of money? Simple, to fund this very moment.

I do love…that the main flaw of Ea, the sword that can literally scour the earth down to the bedrock at the least generous interpretation of its power…is that it’s like, actually a weapon that has to be held and swung. In a fight decided by who was better at pulling weapons out of thin air and using them as missiles, it was the one weapon that couldn’t be used that way that was just an instant too slow. Whether from pride making him hesitate here or Shirou seeing it coming in the VN, for all it’s power, Ea was the exact wrong weapon to use just then.
@@RomulusQuironius The thing is that using EAa is something that Gilgamesh dislikes as a King. For him be king is never face someone as equal. He lose in his own terms, never treat Shiriou as equal until he was able to land a real hit.
Ea is the best weapon in this case scenario for Gil. Ea is a weapon well suited to nuke entire reality marbles like Iskandar’s NP. It’s just that in this route (all routes actually) he is extremely arrogant than usual and is losing his composure. FSF showed us that he is indeed arrogant but he is not naive and stupid like in this interpretation. Shirou like he himself stated was just 1 step ahead compared to Gil who had every cards in his arsenal to stop shirou from eliminating the variables. It was simply too late to use Ea but if he had done sooner, its a guaranteed wrap unless Shirou has Avalon (basically plot armor)

Actually he hesitated because he know that wouldn't solve the problem of speed when Shirou spell it out for him. In the source material, Shirou didn't bother to inform him about "being always one step ahead", so Gilgamesh didn't hesitated in there.

This gotta be the most amazing fucking fight. The words shirou said to gilgamesh, the fact that shirou used archer abilities, the build up, the music, animation, choreography, everything. I was so hyped that my head hurts. This must be what i should feel when jotaro faces dio, but i didnt feel anything because of spoilers. Im glad this fixed things up. And this is the 2nd time im watching this series, but this time its so much better cuz i watched fate zero first.

And even on top of that archer emiya is not anywhere close to being strongest servant, he gets by on resourcefulness and studying his opponent, things shirou has trained to be able to do over many years of experience

I think it was a good decision tip the scales harder to the servants side.
fun fact: Gil was never fighting seriously or was too prideful to so do. As he was not wearing the armor of kings, an impenetrable armor who even saber's strikes just bounces off. He also did not use his divine aegis who can stop just about anything

If it was a fight between servants he would have leaped backwards or used aegis to deflect but he never treated shirou as a threat, causing him his life.

The hesitation only happened in the anime. It was a way to demonstrate how prideful gil really is, thus gil did not lose because he hesitated, he lose because he his pride would not allow him to use EA against someone as weak as Shirou. Once he try to grab EA Shirou won because it shows that he needed his strongest weapon to kill Shirou of all people.

@@BloodyMaryV In the original novel, Once he realized Gil realized he was losing, *he didn't hesitate to pull out Ea at all.* During the fight, Shirou knew ahead of time Gilgamesh's Ace in the hole and was waiting for the moment where he could shut it down and claim victory.
In the novel, this scene shows off Shirou's strategy in battle prowess.
In the anime his victory is because Gilgamesh got cocky. And while that is a total Gilgamesh way to go out, it underminds Shirou's victory.

But i like the modifications that ufotable made to this fight, it became even more hype than before.
If you watch this fight in the studio deen version it's closer to the VN but not as epic as the ufotable version.
To be specific, he hard counters archer Gil. Would probably lose against him if Gilgamesh was summoned as any other class.
This scene actually has some pretty deep hidden lore. See that red and black sword Gilgamesh was about to use on Shirou? That's Ea. An Anti-World level noble phantasm that can pretty much blow up anything in its way. But that's not it's ultimate strength; Ea actually stands for EA, Electronic Arts. The company famed for abusing its player base in order to extort as much money as they can, way more than is normally really needed for producing their games and turning profit. So why would EA try to exploit people for such an absurd amount of money?

I do love…that the main flaw of Ea, the sword that can literally scour the earth down to the bedrock at the least generous interpretation of its power…is that it’s like, actually a weapon that has to be held and swung. In a fight decided by who was better at pulling weapons out of thin air and using them as missiles, it was the one weapon that couldn’t be used that way that was just an instant too slow. Whether from pride making him hesitate here or Shirou seeing it coming in the VN, for all it’s power, Ea was the exact wrong weapon to use just then.

Shirou like he himself stated was just 1 step ahead compared to Gil who had every cards in his arsenal to stop shirou from eliminating the variables.
It was simply too late to use Ea but if he had done sooner, its a guaranteed wrap unless Shirou has Avalon (basically plot armor)
People always mentions the budget, but we should always keep in mind that the animators in ufotable are next level as well.
