Old and beautiful Venice

Venice is the capital of the region of the same name in northern Italy. The city is located on more than 100 small islands in the lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. There are no roads here at all, the traffic is only on the canals. The busiest is the Grand Canal. Along it are many palaces in the Gothic and Renaissance styles. St. Mark's Square is the main square in the city. Here is St. Mark's Cathedral, decorated with Byzantine-style mosaics, and the bell tower (campanile), which overlooks the red roofs of the city houses.
Venice is a special city in terms of architecture, history and everyday life. It is a place known around the world as the city on the water, the center of masked culture, and the home of Marco Polo and Antonio Vivaldi. What is this place? And why is it like a magnet, attracting tourists from all over the world?
