I just got my Conan figure from Mezco last week( I pre-ordered him in November 2022) and he’s so cool. Love the look of the figure and the accessories. Probably the best figure I’ve ever bought, a little pricy but it was worth it.
I was on waitlist and just got the shipping notice for this guy, super excited! And I get where you and your wife are coming from. When I first started collecting figures the only guys I had were ToyBiz Conan, Judge Dredd, Punisher and an in-scale Batman and I realize yeah I like human characters in crazy mad insane worlds where they just bad-ass their way through any problem. For Conan they often write him into a situation where it's like how is he going to get out of this? Oh, he just fucking GOES HARD. And that's how he gets out of it. Though Kratos also written in a similar way. Makes me wonder what a story would be like with old Kratos and pre-King Conan where Kratos teaches Conan the responsibility that comes with being a god and Conan relates it to his methods when he eventually becomes King. Enough tangent, great review as always D!
Wow, I preordered mine directly from Mezco and I still haven’t seen a shipping notification. Not sure why, but it seems like I get my Mezco figures a month after most people do.
Great review, great shots and great analysis of Conan! He is a Hyborean Age Batman… whether Conan is fighting a god, devil, beast or man he always finds a way to win! Damn, I used to like Conan as a kid and I'm not a huge swords/sorcerery guy (so I try not to focus on that) and I am trying to be careful with every brand, but this figure looks great and I love that you mentioned Kratos! Mez would kill it if they made him!

I saw that Blackops Toys sell individual Mezco parts on their site. I think that new Red Sonja is about to come out later this year. They would look nice together. Nice review.
Love the figure, I'd argue it's better then the previous release due to having more accessories but I wish it had all the accessories from the frazeta artwork, not counting the horse, just the leather chest strap with the sheath in the back is missing, they should have switched it with the alternate belt that looks like a death dealer reuse, then it'd be close to perfect, in fact the first release is ironically more accurate to the painting.
Solid review. I’ve always thought of Conan as a prehistoric James Bond. He always finds a way to win no matter the odds, uses weapons & amulets & other such stuff like Bond uses guns & gadgets all to save the day. Plus both guys always get the girls ;)
Mine is currently in transit for Tuesday delivery and I cannot wait! My wife is pleased by the thought of Hyborean Batman, and no matter the outcome the battle would be one for the ages. Thank you for this mine is delayed locally according to FedEx so it will serve as a surrogate lol also anyone looking for that shock oil if you have a hobby shop that deals in RC cars you'll find it there I use the same stuff and that's where I got mine.
Thanks for that tip about popping the arms off. The one I got was the same scary tight as yours and just heating and trying to loosen it up in the socket wasn't flying. Even shock oil from outside the joint didn't do anything. I was just gonna leave it as is, but now I feel like I can take another crack at it.
Conan being Barbarian Batman is pretty true. He's surprisingly smart, for a guy who spends most of his time kicking ass. He's a physical specimen, he's an incredible fighter, there's always a bigger guy, but Conan is always stronger in some way. And he's the luckiest guy on earth. Kratos is more like Zodd than superman lol. Goku is a good example (especially with how many times Kratos has died and come back). It would totally be one of those situations where Kratos should win, there's really no way he should lose, but Conan just keeps pulling some stuff off, and coming out alive. Looks really great, I want one, but it's just not in the budget this time. Maybe next run. (Adding, those photos were great man, like a Frazetta cover come to life. I'd love for them to do a version with some armour, like a chain mail vest or something. I wish Mezco was doing the Red Sonja, the new one looks good, but I think they'd do it better.)
I thought by watching your review that I was gonna regret canceling my preorder, but I’m ok with it since I have the first version and I’m glad it still hold up. Financial issues caused me to pass on him and the barbarian pack, but if the barbarian pack is still available later down the line I might pick that up. Great review and I always enjoy the pictures at the end

Thanks so much again for a great review! I was curious about the Shock Oil, does it matter on what weight of shock oil that is used? I am not into R/C cars, so I would not know. The weight ranges from 20, 30, 40, 50 up to 100. Any help would be grateful.
So with the boots, on the first Mezco 1:12 Conan ("Barbarian") the boots are more so the "civilized" soldier boots, as opposed to these on the "Conqueror" they are the more traditional rustic primitive truly barbaric style, closer to what he wore when he first left his homeland Cimmeria... yes I'm a Conan nerd thank you! And I got this bad boy as well as the first one, there's no way that I'm not!
Here is my biggest problem with the figure, it's that I don't have the first Conan so I can't interchange head sculpts because I don't like Conan with a helmet at all. I wish the helmet was removable so I could use if for some other figure, man if only I worked for Mezco lol.
I dont have any mezco, and it bums me out that they dont have double joints in the arms. I have a few mythic legions and I like them well enough but it bums me out about mythic legions too. Am I making too much of this? I feel like the double joints add so much and I wonder why they opt for the single joints.
If you can't make the single joint work then you should try and get better with posing . Not tryna sound like a jerk but you lose very little in articulation

I was playing with ML iron spidey the other day and there is just a certain satisfaction i get from putting them in a sweet boxing pose that looks great with the double joints lol. Conan is not like Batman, and he doesn't have plot armor, Kratos would win, there's nobody in the hyborian age like Kratos, Kratos is what old gods and old myths are made of in the hyborian age, Conan is just a man, he survives against beasts and weird creatures occasionaly due to HUMAN physical capabilities and resourcefulness, but he wouldn't win against someone like Kratos. Batman is just stupid.
Just got mine yesterday and I tell ya, Conan remains one of Mezco's best figures (Both versions) its a 10 outta 10 for me hands down.

This is a must have for any Conan/Frazetta fan. If I could add a wish list to it, make a John Buscema version too.
