Hey! The opening étude of the op. 39 set, first published in October, 1916, is one of Rachmaninoff's most chromatic compositions: a constant climax of almost-demonic harmonies, a _perpetuum mobile_ that evokes interminable tension till exasperation (2:26), but not before having delved into more oneiric, evanescent notes first (0:56). In this very section, the expedient, dearest to the composer, of shifting harmony while reiterating the melodic outline is used in a most mesmerizing way. Sudden chords then bring back the paroxystic turbolence which persists throughout the rest of the piece. A state of controlled panic is the _condicio sine qua non_ to perform this study. I hope to have rendered it in a way that is passable, despite the imprecisions ^_^;;; Also certain liberties were taken, pls don't judge me ^_-
Very impressive rendition of this difficult Rachmaninoff etude! You played extraordinarily good, my friend! Would love to hear you play it on an acoustic piano 🤩 Subscribed 👍🏻🎶
Thank you so much for the sub! Yeah playing on an acoustic piano would sound totally different; eventually I will also do that! (it might take a while tho) ^_^
