2:13 they did a rolling stop and didn't inconvenience anyone, who cares? 2:23 you stopped for a good two seconds, they probably thought you were letting them by.
Thanks for the comment. The sign says “Stop”, not “Roll”... Who cares? Most people don’t (including me at times, full disclosure), but the police will pull you over for that in a heartbeat. All they need is “cause”, and rolling through a stop sign is definite cause. Fortunately for those of us who are not criminals, such stops often result in other reasonable plain-sight discoveries (DUI, open container, weed, etc.). The prior stop-sign law was plain language: (I’m paraphrasing…) First vehicle to stop is the first one that can proceed; if two vehicles stop at the same time, vehicle on right has RoW. Unfortunately, defense lawyers influenced subsequent legislation that resulted in the current law, which requires a lawyer to interpret (big surprise). Regardless how the law is spun, not stopping at a stop sign can get you pulled over. As far as the 2nd driver was concerned, I stopped and waited for them to stop (in which case I would have waived my RoW and motioned for them to continue), but they continued to roll through. I’m not going to enter a signed intersection unless the other driver stops; that would have been bad judgement on my part. Thinking someone was motioning you through, without visual confirmation, would have been bad judgement on their part.
