Marie-Anne, you are the Queen of sustainability as well as style! As a result of watching your fabulous videos, I have discovered many new outfits in my wardrobe. Sometimes it is necessary to buy a new accessory or item of underwear to make the outfit work, but that is far cheaper than buying lots of new clothes. Also I choose any new clothes with greater care, so they will really work with my existing pieces. The French Chic philosophy is great for the planet!

I always admired the trench coats my granny and my uncle used to wear but somehow I never had one as an adult. Three years ago I finally got mine thanks to you and I simply adore it.
I think a trench coat is a basic and very necessary piece of clothing for any wardrobe. Few things are so versatile.
Here the tendency is being so underdressed that people stare at me when I walk on the street with my coat. Friends tell me that’s too elegant and formal but for me it is not.
But well such is life in…the tropics!😂

I seldom button my coats (live in a warm climate) so like the trick of tying the belt in back for a slimmer silhouette (and less likely to lose it).

Bonjour Marie-Anne, again a super video.
The first trench I saw in my life was the trench of my father.
When I was a child, I loved to see him wearing his trench. For me he looked, how to say, so serious, important in this coat. It impressed me as a child.
Well, now I am in your age and of course, a trench coat is one of my favourites for so many years...🙂

I’m still a work in progress but I’ve come a long way!! I used to dress down for fall. I’d gravitate to flannel, leggings and denim and sweatshirts. Yesterday after exercise class there was a meeting at the library I could have worn what I had on. Other ladies did. But instead I wore navy straight leg pants, a white satin shirt sleeved shirt blouse, a leopard print cardigan and a gold chunky necklace. It was chilly Instead of a jeans jacket I wore my camel belted blazer but I kept my navy converse sneakers on I felt so good I just love wearing better clothes when I go somewhere. I always carry a good bag in a neutral color It’s amazing what swapping a tee shirt for a nice blouse can do for a person I loved this video and all your outfits

Marie-Anne, thanks so much for doing a video on trench coats. I've been shopping for just the right one and this video will help me focus on buying one with the right details. And it will help me to wear it in the most fashionable ways. I loved the belt tied in the back to cinch the waist. Loved that! I also loved the dark belt because it matched the buttons on the coat, but I'm sure you're right to look for a wider belt. I loved your second pairing. Again I loved the two-toned shoes. I guess I also need to buy some two-toned shoes when I buy my trench coat. And I love when you say "oooooh" when you think of a new idea.

I have a beige London fog trench coat that is unflattering on me but I think that I am going to sell it on consignment then invest in a black one with a belt. The London fog one is great quality but boxy 80s style. I am 5'3 and have an apple body with shorter torso. Not an easy body to style. I absolutely love how organized your wardrobe is. This makes it easier to put outfits together night before or early in the morning before work or starting your day. The cardigan, trousers and heels were my favourite outfit. I would switch it out for a block heeled loafer for work, flats or ankle boots. I teach so no stilettos for work.

    "a sea of frump"
I quite literally started laughing while sipping coffee and about choked! Such an accurate yet humorous phrase.
I reside in an area that is semi-rural, so it is quite common to see actual farmers around town wearing overalls and work boots. However, we do have a very popular "downtown" area full of antique stores, fancy restaurants, boutiques, and a riverfront stroll.
I always debate what to wear when in the more local areas. I refuse to wear a shirt sleeves t-shirt and skinny jeans to fit-in, but I don't want to be too dressy in case I end up at a feed store.
My solution is usually to wear a trench coat over my casual clothes as it elevates any outfit but isn't screaming "look at me!"
    A sea of frump 😂
As for trench coats, I have 4. Of course beige & black, but then I've added olive and navy because I found them on sale or second hand.

I have bought a trench coat which fits well except for the chest area. I will mostly wear the coat unbuttoned, but when I button it up, the chest it a bit too fitted. I could buy the bigger size but I think it would be oversized on me. I notice that you do not fasten the button on your chest on your trench coat. Is this a style decision?

I have been watching you tube for about two years and followed a few youtubers. Some of them started out teaching style, then turned into product sales person, encouraging women to follow trend non-stop . Some tried to be different, became very edgy and gender neutral. You are one of the very few truly believe in your own classic, French chic style and consistent teaching it with passion and joy. It really shows through. We all understand youtubers have to make a living. But the difference is so obvious. You are a true pearl in a sea of sand.

Question: Hi, Marie-Anne. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a trench coat. I'm 5'6" and have am an apple shape (but smoking hot legs!), and all the longer trench coats that I've tried on make me look extremely frumpy. Also, because I'm very fair with very light hair, all the beige and tan ones I've found make me look extremely washed out. I think I could wear a camel color or darker brown, if I could find one, or possibly black, though it is a little harsh. What do you think about shorter trench coats? They don't look as casual/elegant as the longer ones, but I've tried on many of the longer ones, and I don't feel very French chic in them. Do you think it is better to have a shorter trench coat or none at all? I enjoy your channel very much. I'm waiting for my white sneakers to come this week!

    • @helenmacqueen8856
      @helenmacqueen8856 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarieAnneLecoeur
Thanks, Marie-Anne. I think I've pretty much mastered most of the challenges of the apple shape (high-waisted slacks and jeans, color blocking, body-skimming fits, high-hip jackets that disguise the tummy while making my legs look longer, etc.), but I think the biggest problem with the trench coats has arisen from my extremely short waist. I usually don't wear belts for that reason; because it emphasizes the problem. Now that I'm thinking this through, I think a shorter coat would have the same problem, or possibly worse, because either would just cut me off in an unflattering place. Thanks for the opportunity to work through this. When I go shopping or talk to my friends, I always say "Bonjour French Chic Ladies suggests that I buy...". This always amuses them, and many of them ask how to find you online.

    Trenchcoat material.
    Slim fit, .... dark green.
    Not double breasted.
No big collar, no epaullets, no belt.
I think, in terms of style it still belongs to the trench family.

I love a trench coat and yes I have one! It seems as though I have been wearing a trench coat for many years. It never goes out of style.❤

I have a black trench coat with detachable hood. I love wearing it buttoned and belted. It accentuates my small waist. Your outfit ideas are so attractive. Great video

I don't have a trench coat but I'm going to buy one now. :-) I can't decide which outfit I liked best, all where beautiful but I really love the sweater in outfit #2. I was also shopping my closet a few days ago and started purging it, I honestly forgot how many nice things I have. My closet is functional again and just in time for a new trench coat! Thank you Marie-Anne!

I forgot how to wear a trench coat because it doesn't fit me. And at the age of 25, I wore it and it looked good on me. I do not know what happened! Help! I am not petite..I am 1.74!
But... Marie -Anne wears it perfectly, especially with a skirt. Black skirt I adore. That's just the way it is. Punto.🙂
PS. Marie Anne began to talk and sing a little. Change!👍🙂

Hi Marie-Ann, I love all your videos. Here in US, people dress very casually even going out. I have a few nice pearl strings which I seldom wear even when I go out so not to draw too much attention... What style should I choose for more casual and not a fancy dining out with a little touch of elegance not to look over dressed? I am 64 years old, my height is5'9'', weight 135ibs. Thank you.

What is a quality UK trench coat brand slightly lower price than Burberry? I want a British brand because the pound has drastically fallen against the dollar so, while I couldn't afford it last week, this week everything Brit is a bargain! Burberry Kensiington trench is $500 cheaper if you buy in the UK than US now!

Love your style! You look so elegant. I've tried on so many double-breasted trench coats, but they don't look as good on me as a single button. Being blonde, I also have to be careful of beige/gray colors. I have a Barbour (not the waxed, nor the sporty styles of the brand) in navy/dress that isn't double-breasted. It's a nice length and has a back cape similar to a regular trench. And, it's waterproof. I was thinking of taking it to Paris next year. Qui or non?

Thank you for this great video! Is a light blue classic trench outdated for Spring 2023?

My trench coat is beige with navy buttons and navy piping around the collar, cuffs etc. I love it, it was very inexpensive about 5 years ago.

I love trench coats. They are perfect for an apple shape and for a Melbourne winter. I have 2, one unlined spring/autumn weight one and one heavier, fully lined winter one. If it’s quite cold I like to fill in the open front with a long cashmere scarf. Then I am nice and warm.
I liked the way you showed bags with these outfits. I wish you would do that more often. I feel that a handbag gives the final polish to an outfit.

Grest video. All looks are beautiful but #2 is my favorite. I recently had a professional color analysis and learned that the black, bright white, and bright, intense colored clothes I’ve been wearing aren’t very flattering. I see in your video you have a lot of softer colored clothes such as grey, ivory, the lovely peachy sweater you showed with the plaid pants. Could you do a video with a softer neutral palette? Thanks. ❤

Bonjour Marie-Anne, I have just recently purchased a trench coat and guess what, it's a Hobbs, the same one but mine is in a pale green so still, a fairly neutral colour, I looked for ages online to find it it's a very good quality, you certainly get what you pay for, I have always had one, they never go out of fashion.

I just bought a used Burberry coat from thredup. It's something I will never get rid of so the price was worth it.

How to pick the right size trench? I heard it should fit over a blazer, which might make it baggy if you don't wear a blazer. Also, if that is true, do manufacturers factor that into your normal size? Men usually wear trench coats over their suits.
