Hi Guy!! I am trying to build a money management(Money in and Money out) for clients. would it be the same concept? I would like to do a report like this.
Hi, I have to make a special offer on few items in my store, by calling the item via barcode, it come with it the unite price, name.. etc... how can make the unite price change only for quantities like 5 for 10$ or 6 for 10$ but only for this item in invoice layout? thank you in advance
I was watching your video on printing multiple portals as I have a similar issue. I am having an issue where I need to print details from two portals that show different information, but I am not even able to get one portal to work. I have a relationship setup between the two tables but I am not able to get it to work.
Hi Darryl, The trick I'm using in the video is not to use a portal on the print layout, but to base the print layout on the table the portal is based on. Then I perform a find to find the correct records. What is it that is not working in your situation? Greetings Guy
@@GuyStevens0 So what is not working for me are two things. 1. I am not able to put the three portal field information all into one. 2. When I go to place the information from one portal detailing the people that have worked on that day, I am not able to get all of the records that are corresponded with that event. Basically how I have it setup is the main table is an event detail form. Everything then get entered in from there. I would then enter in, in the portal, all of the people that would work on that day. After I finish entering in everything, I would like to print all do the details for that day including all who worked. That is where I am having the issue. I am not always able to pull up everyone that worked that day. Sometimes I have not even been able to get the records of people who have worked to even show up.
Please anyone, I'd like to build a Burger Delivery System and I'm lost with tables and relationships. It's close to this Invoice example: Product, Customers, but some orders are delivered at customer's adress by motorbyke and others are at the place (customers eating at the burger shop - 10 tables). Any example that could help me? Hope I've made myself clear with my limited eglish, thanx all.
Maybe it can be the same. The invoice is a bill. The bill could have a type. "Restaurant" or "Take-Away / Delivery" For a delivery you could add an address. That way you can later on create a report for income grouped by type. Greetings Guy
Hello Guy, I have implemented this method for my quotes and it works really well - Thank you! Can this be expanded to have a product picker (from a list)? If so, can I create the scripts (as described from your Udemy lessons) to use the table occurrence ALL PRODUCTS to write to the InvoiceDetails table. I want avoid doing 4 times the work by creating scripts and layouts for each product type's table occurrence. I have tried to set this up using your method for picking from a list, but my products/services do not show up in the portal for that product type. However, if I place on my layout a portal displaying the InvoiceDetails table (that has all products listed), the products I picked from the list, do display in that portal. I figured, if I could write to the invoiceDetails, then those products would display in the appropriate table occurrence. Thank you.
Hi Joe, You can do this, but those different portals probably have a field in there, like a type field that defines what kind of Invoice detail it is. You are probably not filling in that type field when picking a product from a list. And therefore that Invoice Detail record is not showing up in the portal because you haven't filled in the type field. Anyway, that would be my guess. Greetings Guy
You were right! There was something I missed. I had it all setup right. I had to have the "ProductType" field write into the QuoteDetails "ProductType" field. Thank you for your help.

Hello Guy, really like your videos, but i would need help with a database i am trying to put together. Here is my problem. I have Costumers who own building apartments. So i am trying to set up a database to keep all the work that we do in each apartments. So each of my costumers own a building witch as many tenants. at each of these tenants i have employees who perform different tasks. So my question is how do i set up my relationships? Thanks for your help (if you have thew time).
Love your Video. Great pace, you get to the point and you explain it. I'm seeking some help: I've got an Events table which includes the date of the event, name of event. I've got a Staff Table with name of staff, other information (nationality etc). Multiple staff can be involved in multiple events and fulfil different roles in different events. I've addressed this by having a Join table that has Join Table::IDEVENT linked to Events::IDEVENT and Join Table::IDSTAFF linked to Staff::StaffNo. I then have a portable in the Events Table which shows the staff and the roles. In the Staff Layout I have a portal that shows The events and roles they have been involved in. That all works well. My problem is I want to produce another layout for printing that will show each event in List view with each role as a header and the name of the staff who fulfilled that role for that event. Do you have any ideas? In plain language, Team leader name = the name of the staff who was team leader for that event. I can supply a small test file if that helps to explain the above.
Good Morning Guy - very thorough video - Thank you Two questions 1 - is there a way to include a radio button with corresponding script to select which tab / portal section to exclude from the invoice - for example - if we wanted to show the client the costing for the parts / misc only on one estimate then include the services on another 2 - is there a method to script the addition of a tab / portal and have that auto populate from pre defined tables / layouts - example - we would possible have over 20 headings for our estimates that would need to be somewhat customized depending on venue / room. Currently we would have to make over 20 tabs / portals to have that level of segmentation on our estimates - we'd love to find an automated option Keep up the great work.
Hi Alain, I'm not entirely following what you want to do. Do you want to create an estimate with several options? And create a different estimate for each different option? It sounds like that would be pretty complicated. 1) Couldn't you make an estimate with lots of different options and price totals per option so the client can choose which options he wants? Maybe I'm missing something. You could of course have checkboxes or radio buttons and then select the items that you do or do not want on your invoice. But then you would have to create all kinds of different invoices, constantly checking an unchecking items and creating a new invoice. That sounds tedious to me. I would create a grouped list like a manu so people can choose whatever option that want to have. 2) You can't script the addition of portals or tabs. I don't really know why you would want to do that. I think you are looking at this the wrong way, but I also don't completely understand what you are trying to achieve. Maybe if you can make me understand. I could make a better suggestion. Greetings, Guy Stevens
HI Guy - Thanks for your reply - I will try and formulate a more clear synopsis for you :) . Could you email me your email contact to alan@firedog.events ?
I have the same question. I have a similar need where rather than having just "Part" and "Service" tabs and types, we would have 15 or more "types". Using the method in this tutorial, that would get unwieldy to create a new Product table instance for all 15 or more "types". Is there a way to do a similar technique, but somehow have the "type" populated from another table as opposed to being "hard coded" as it is in your tutorial? I hope that is clearer and is what Alain was asking above. Thanks for the great tutorial!
Hi Julian, Thank you for your message. I sadly am super busy working on other Filemaker projects. I can't possibly take on any more work. I suggest you either ask on the Filemaker Community Forum or find a Certified developer on the Filemaker website. Greetings Guy
Hi Guy, never mind, I'll keep trying myself and one day, when you're not so busy you could..... Keep up the great work. I have to learn how to get only the information I want, from another table without bringing in everything. I think you have shown me the way here, I just need to work it out. I have this other problem, that my portals records only take the first record into consideration. For example ,in my Order form table. I add parts into the portal from a supplier table. The first row will show up in the supplier list inventory as a plus order. (Everything correct) if I add a second row into the Order form table, This does not show up?? I.e. If I order 4 parts and in the next row another 4 parts I should have 8 parts ordered. Only 4 show. I am having this not only for orders but for sales too.
You may have made an error in the way you set up your relationships. Unfortunately I can't really know what you did because I don't have any more information about your file. Could you tell me a little more about how you set it up? Or send me a download link to your file. Greetings Guy
Hi Muziek, Do you mean that you want to have a portal where you can see only the related records for the next 7 days? This can be done using either a portal filter or a relationship. First you need a start date and end date field where you enter the dates you want to use. These dates then need to be edited every day to have the correct date and then date of next week (Today + 7 days.) This can be done using a script that is performed as a script trigger on the layout enter event. Then you need to either filter your portal to show dates larger than the start date (Current Date) and smaller than the end date (Current Date + 7) Alternatively you create a second table occurrence of the related table and you relate it so that the date field from the related table is present in two relationships to the main table. One relationship is where the date is larger than the start date. The second relationship if for the date being smaller than the end date. I hope this helps. Greetings Guy
Dear Sir I would be looking forward for :) Thank you so much for your kind reply. You have did a tutorial for me on DDC (Books classification) im still so thankful to you cause that video made my life very easy. A bundle of thanks :)
Nice video very informative as a favor though could you please please slow down a little you are moving in most of your vids to fast! It’s actually annoying! Don’t get offended just trying to help
Thank you, and you may be right. When I get going I do sometimes get a little too exited and race along. But I get about 7 messages a month telling me how people love that I don't waste time getting to the point. That people love that I don't repeat everything over and over again like some video's do. So I guess I'll have to try and find the middle ground. Thanks for your message and your constructive criticism. Greetings Guy
Don't forget that youtube allows 0.75 speed or 1.25, which I often use depending on how much I am familiar with the tutorial and just want to remind myself of the things i've forgotten or if the person is talking very fast and the tech is new for me then I usually go for 0.75 speed.
I'm sorry if it's going to fast for you. Most of the comments I get are from people thanking me that I don't go too slow. That I get straight to the point and that I don't needlessly repeat stuff. Maybe I sometimes do go a little fast. But that usually is when I'm explaining things I have already explained multiple times. Maybe you should start with some simpler video's first. Like my Filemaker beginner tutorial. That one goes pretty slow: th-cam.com/video/wnUnJkWIul8/w-d-xo.html Greetings Guy
Guy Stevens maybe you misunderstood my comment but in my opinion the tutorials are paced really well, I watched a few and I did it on 1.25 speed since I only have one monitor so I often pause when repeating your steps, but I understand why some people might find them too fast, so they can just try using 0.75 speed and they should be fine I think. Anyways your tutorials are really cool and easy to follow.

Hi Guy, Thank you for great video.
Do you know how to make me seeable in portal date of the next 7 days???
Hi Muziek,
Do you mean that you want to have a portal where you can see only the related records for the next 7 days?
This can be done using either a portal filter or a relationship.
First you need a start date and end date field where you enter the dates you want to use. These dates then need to be edited every day to have the correct date and then date of next week (Today + 7 days.)
This can be done using a script that is performed as a script trigger on the layout enter event.
Then you need to either filter your portal to show dates larger than the start date (Current Date) and smaller than the end date (Current Date + 7)
Alternatively you create a second table occurrence of the related table and you relate it so that the date field from the related table is present in two relationships to the main table.
One relationship is where the date is larger than the start date.
The second relationship if for the date being smaller than the end date.
I hope this helps.
