Man, I just jumped into this knife collecting thing. All these TH-cam videos on the subject has had its effect.. 😏 It's infectious!! I've carried a Buck for years and I needed a replacement. After perusing through 100's of videos, I finally ordered one. And another one. And another one. Etc. I'm up to 5 knives now!! And the first one has still to come in! So many fairly cheap, good quality knives out there. I'm €250,- lighter! So far.. So it looks like I'm collecting. Never collected anything in my life. But this got me hooked right away. Thanks to you and all the other knife connoisseurs on TH-cam. So thanks, I guess.. 😏👍🏻
Your budget may not like me but it sounds like you are having some good fun. YAY!
The main thing that will get you completely hooked on the knife hobby is when you learn how to sharpen knives well. It can be tricky to learn but I think it will bring a lot of extra joy to the hobby.

Oh man finally some decent English review about this brand! I watched 719 and 919's Russian reviews but ain't get any good info 😅 I think this brand deserves much more attention from us. Because they were doing their jobs very good actually! Please consider to review 719 or 919 models too. Especially 719 a total classic and looks awesome...

The 719, that is an interesting choice. I do have to wonder how appealing that would be to my general audience.
I do have to pay full price for these because none of the online stores that I have a relationship with carry the PF brand so that means I probably won't be getting a lot of them anytime soon, but I will get more PF knives when I can afford to do so.

But i know there is something inside of you want to have 719 too 🤣🤣 In my poor opinion 719 is classic Edc knife and it appeals to 30+ years old people. But 919 is appeals more younger people. Especially the blue one... Sir I think I'm gonna buy both of them before your review😅😅
PF is hands down my favorite Chinese knife company (for budget knives). Every bit as good as Ganzo/Firebird for the price. Yon Xanadu as well, although they tend to be a small step up in quality and price.
I have only reviewed two of them and one of them was complete garbage, but it seems to have been an older model. I do hope they have improved because I did buy a 3rd PF to review - the 818

Its really growing on me. Especially like the subtle labeling.
I do like that too. I don't like brand names and writing all over my stuff, not just knives, but anything I own.
I even make car dealers take their label off any car I buy, I won't do free advertising for them.
Petrified Fish. I'd seen some online and thought that they were referring to the handle texture and was something lost in translation. I didn't realize that it was the company name!!! 😂 That's what I get for browsing in the middle of the night. 😴🌛

Yeah, that is funny. and if you google "petrified fish knife" you will find that someone made a blade from an actual piece of petrified fish.

The worst thing about the Gerber Air Ranger (other than the changes made to appease the CBSA) is the liner lock. It's so weak that the smallest amount of pressure will bend and flex it. This causes the blade to have back and forth play. Maybe it's just the batch I bought but all 3 had the same issue.
I think you have come across a common theme with many Gerber knives.
Gerber = junk.
I'm trying to make a decision between Bestech Swordfish and Petrified Fish PF838. I like the look of both. Prefer the orange on Swordfish but then I like the blade on 838 better. Since the material of the blade is same and size comparable, I need hel for decide. Would be grateful for any helpfu opinions.
Which of the knives you mentioned have the longest handle? I'd get that model.
Between those two I would take the Swordfish. Not sure I can give you a list of reasons why, but the swordfish is a bit more comfortable in my hands anyway.
Agree with CCE. Petrified Fish is very good for a Chinese manufacturer, but Bestech will have the smaller details down pat, where you don't always get that with a Chinese knife, even as good as PF is. Go for the Swordfish.

Looks like Ganzo has competition if you have bigger hands! Would it really be awkward or dangerous if you have smaller hands?
Nah, its not dangerous for smaller hands simply because of it's size. Any knife is less safe to use if you can't get a good grip. So, the important thing is if it feels okay to the individual. Meaning, even a perfect size knife can be a bad choice if the grip is not good, and an odd size knife can be just fine if the the holder can grip it well.
You might want to check out the Twosun TS134-Wood on Amazon.
It's selling for just under $50. I have the titanium version & really like it.
Thanks for the suggestion. That is right in my price-range. I have seen the titanium version on WhiteMountainKnives.com for $199 - which is why I have not gotten one yet, it's outside the range that I usually try to stick to on CCE.

I thought that here I go drooling over an obviously nice knife that I can't afford.😶 But thats a really decent knife for an affordable price.😀Could you skeletonise the liner yourself? I have small/doll hands but am used to living in a big handed world due to working construction.🤗 Maybe you can answer a question. Are flipper knives legal to carry in Canada? What about spring assist flipper knives?
Canadian knife law is terribly fuzzy. I carry flippers, I feel they are within the law, but CBSA doesn't allow us to import them into the country, so whenever they find them they confiscate them, they started that in January 2019 but knife laws have not changed for several decades.
There are some spring assisted knives that have been deemed legal in some court cases but still they are not something that I will ever carry in public.
The most important things with knife law in Canada has to do with intention of use. If you carry a knife for self defense you have broken the law, and not just knife law either, you have broken the peace by carrying a weapon in public. don't even ever tell police that you are carrying it just in case, etc. I carry a knife solely because I am a knife collector - some guys collect hats, some collect hockey cards, I collect knives because I like them - nothing more and nothing less. Are you sure about the t8 pivot screw? I just got mine and it's a t9 .
They may have changed the screw size on later production runs. Mine = T8.
Also, cheap screws and if you have budget screwdriver, then the size you need can vary and this PF knife definitely has budget screws made to sloppy tolerances.
