    It's lovely how well the show notes detail all the references. We appreciate your work and dedication to public health.

      Right? The only complaint I have about the show notes is I start looking at them and when I look back up it's like two hours later!

    I missed the last Thanksgiving before COVID because my housemate got it the weekend before and I assumed I'd get and spread it to my family. I never had symptoms though. But I've since learned that there's a significant chance of asymptomatic infection so I probably did the right thing.

    Polio paralysis, such a huge avoildable hassle for clinician and pt alike.

    • @Logotic
      @Logotic 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Yeah, polio paralysis is something that's close to 100% preventable at this point. We could eradicate it if we didn't act so dumb.

    As always, a highly informative Clinical Update, thank you Dr. Griffin. I felt Vincent's response to the letter writer asking about the historical HPAI 50% fatality rate was a bit condescending. Even if it were 10%, or just 5%, that would be disastrous to societal functioning. The essential workforce would suffer the earliest and most significant losses, dramatically reduciing healthcare providers, emergency services, and the operation of critical infrastructure, like utilities and food supplies. It is in no one's interest to already be minimizing the potential that a HPAI pandemic will have on humanity. If the current nominees for US Public Health leadership are appointed, the government will not be competent enough to contain such a crisis.

    It appears to be the glycerin in most hand sanitizers that prevents the alcohol from deactivating norovirus. Alcohol without glycerin is reasonably effective in deactivating norovirus but is overly drying to hands. Quaternary ammonium based hand sanitizers are better against norovirus. Bleach based cleaners are effective. So when traveling, consider bringing a collection of sanitizers!

    My husband says LOTS of men don't wash their hands in public restrooms. I do my best to avoid shaking hands but if I do I am acutely aware of not touching my face until I can wash my hands. People are gross.

    Maybe I am slow, but why is the WHO not stopping OPV right now? Why in 5 to 10 years? Is it a supply chain issue (i.e. not enough IPV supply is available)?

    • @marklemont3735
      @marklemont3735 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I think it may have more to do with the convenience of OPV. A nurse is not needed, as one example, out of other considerations.

    • @razerginn
      @razerginn 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yep, no nurse, something better than nothing and it's way better than no vax even with the 1 in 1.5 million vaccine paralysis.

    17:48 I hate hand sanitizer-to me it feels exactly the way Dr. Griffin describes it-putting something on top of hand dirt
    However, I’ve always wondered about antibacterial WIPES? Are they better/closer to using soap and water?
    What about the hand cleaning goo that mechanics use? You rub the goo all over your hands, then wipe it off on a towel? Is that as effective as soap and water?

    Influenza like infections here in China for 2025 week 2: China CDC report yesterday of ER visits to hospitals:
    HMPV 5.7% (-0.4%)
    Influenza 35.9% (+0%)
    SARS-COV2 1.3% (-0.2%)
    RSV 2.9% (+0.1%)

    • @WillNewcomb
      @WillNewcomb 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      NB. I live in Changsha, 300km S of Wuhan. I have zero health qualifications but I do checheck the China CDC entries on social media (WeiXin/WeChat) every single day. In the last month they've increased their ILI reporting to weekly. For much of 2024 we only got the occasional monthly figures.
      I'm surprised by the alarmist reports in Western media about HMPV when from CDC figures it's Influenza which is dramatically more prevalent, but about at the same level as this time 2024.

    At some Covid19 patients in 2021 I detected low temperature (cold) agglutination.
    Maybe some Mycoplasma pneumoiae coinfections occur at some Covid19 patients ?
    Must avoid cold oxigen at patients with cold agglutinine.
    Pulse oximetry indicate lower values If hand was not warmed at patients with cold agglutination syndrom.

    First cat of COVID. Took Novavax in early November. Took paxlovid within 8 hours of onset. Had a slight sore throat and tested positive. Only symptom was a slight sore throat and feeling "heavy" for the duration. Tested negative on day 9. Never would have known i had COVID without the test. Never felt sick. Early paxlovid result? Also did infrared light 30 min per day and was on daily NAC, zinc and D3.

      My first case of COVID was 2 years ago. It was only 6 weeks after my Pfizer vaccine. I just had mild, cold like symptoms (I didn’t take Paxlovid).

    • @Logotic
      @Logotic 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sounds much like my own covid in '22. Very mild symptoms, not nearly as bad as the flu I had 3 weeks ago. Vaccinated, no paxlovid, treated myself with caldo de camarones and bourbon. Just anecdotally, mild cases seem to have been more the rule than the exception among friends and family.

      @@Logotic My wife and I tested positive for COVID over the holidays. My wife's case was trivial--three days of sniffles. Mine was more like a flu with about a week of fatigue, low fever (100.5), and the cold-like URT symptoms. It was 10 days before I felt completely recovered. We both had the original vaccination series and one booster in 2021. My wife tested positive for COVID on a previous occasion. I had not tested positive previously but suspect I had COVID in 2022. Strange thing: My eyesight worsened during the infection, then recovered.

      @@christopherrobinson7541 How do you interpret the purple bars on the right? The green bars show improvement, the purple worsening. It looks like vaccinated people experienced both higher rates of improvement and higher rates of worsening symptoms for brain fog and the other two I mentioned. Eyeballing the bars, it seems that the magnitude of the improvement of brain fog and the magnitude or worsening were comparable, while the percentage difference was greater for worsening than for improvement. The plurality in yellow experienced neither improvement nor worsening. If I misinterpreted this graph, please explain how.
