I’m so glad you made this vlog… on March 22 on your site 3 minutes after launch…. Seeing lots of sold out but finally saw one of your anthurium babies was still there (it would’ve been my first of those). I added to my cart and before I could checkout… sold! I was nearly crying at that time, not for missing out on a plant, but happy tears for you!! My thought: I hope she’s recording this as it happens. Of course your site will be a success 🎉 some day I will be a proud owner of a plant by Melissa. Can’t wait and in the meantime I’ll keep watching & learning from you.

Melissa, you can slice the sides of box down to what you need, CAREFULLY. Make new folds, without plant in box, will cost less in shipping and not be too sloppy. Maybe tape plant to interior as to keep stable in shipping. (With old newspapers to insulate. (I use a piece of 1"x1" wood for bending cardboard into a new fold.) Hope it helps. As for thrips gathered in shipments thru states, maybe mist the interior of boxes nite before with your mix. Just a thought, I'm with you on not resending pests thruout the world! Love the thoughtful care you put into your adorable plants 🥰

Having had an online shop, run from a home office I understand you perfectly! Don't worry as you will find your rhythm and start to create routines that speed the whole shipping process up. I definitely recommend you bulk buy some bigger boxes- it will cost you a fraction of that price plus save time and avoid having to dash off to the shop. I would also contact all the different shipping companies to get a cheap/free pick up service. Best of luck! ☺

Loved the blog format and good for you to take the time to show all the effort and many expenses that are often forgotten that have to be calculated into the price of your plants. Congrats once again on opening your shop. I am familiar with the so called shoe/purse display boxes and use them for humidity requiring plants. I place a small hygrometer in them to monitor the humidity and temperature. I forget which channel it was but I heard about using these boxes for plants from that channel and they actually sell them in their shop. I buy mine from Amazon, however. Your packaging looks beautiful. Looking forward to shopping in your shop. I tried but I was too late this first go round... so next time...

@@plantsbymelissa I purchased that 3 pack of acrylic boxes through your Amazon link and got them yesterday. I'm using them as prop box and just filling the bottom with a moss/perlite mix. Next I'm going to use my soldering iron to create ventilation holes. I let it sit overnight to see if there would be any leaking. All is well.

When boxes are too tall you can cut a bit on the corners to close them shorter, you know that, right? Then you’ll need less paper and will be more secured without too much space left inside. It’s a lot of work to pack things tight. Great job Melissa. All the best to you

I wish I could’ve been the first person to order from you, however, my budget is really horrible and it doesn’t call for that. And every time I look at that plant, I get this warm feeling inside that my sister bought this for me..

Congrats once again on opening your shop. I am familiar with the so called shoe/purse display boxes and use them for humidity requiring plants. I place a small hygrometer in them to monitor the humidity and temperature. I forget which channel it was but I heard about using these boxes for plants from that channel and they actually sell them in their shop. I buy mine from Amazon, however. Your packaging looks beautiful. Looking forward to shopping in your shop. I tried but I was too late this first go round... so next time...

@@plantsbymelissa I purchased that 3 pack of acrylic boxes through your Amazon link and got them yesterday. I'm using them as prop box and just filling the bottom with a moss/perlite mix. Next I'm going to use my soldering iron to create ventilation holes. I let it sit overnight to see if there would be any leaking. All is well.

Supplies, shipping, the hours of you caring and growing plants, the hours of packaging and shipping all adds up to $$ you need to make back to repay the business and you. When boxes are too tall you can cut a bit on the corners to close them shorter, you know that, right? Then you’ll need less paper and will be more secured without too much space left inside. It’s a lot of work to pack things tight. Great job Melissa. All the best to you
