This is one of the best songs ever written.
I wholeheartedly agree
True that!
well it depends on the mood but this song is absolutely gorgeous 💚💚💚
i want this song to be played on funeral alongside Flotation Toy Warning's Popstar Researching Oblivion and Sufjan Steven's Neptune
This is one of those songs you listen to casually, but then randomly break down to it after years of holding it inside
...who listens to xiu xiu casually?
@ihatethedesert me
Paraphrasing from the Knife Play drunk commentary, the song is about:
"my mom told me that she wanted to die, so she drove to a place and asked people to murder her for money, she felt she couldn't kill herself by her own hand"
The name "Suha" is from a book Jamie read, which might be Women of Sand and Myrrh by Hanan al-Shaykh.
"The storyline consists of four main characters: Suha, Tamr, Nur, and Suzanne. Different sections of the novel give the perspectives of the four women, making the book a story with four different narrators. Suha and her husband have escaped from war-torn Lebanon into the unnamed country; despite this, Suha finds herself miserable and bored, and cheats on her husband with the wealthy and spoiled Nur."
There's some production info there too if anyone is interested in that - worth a listen.
I'm pretty sure Suha refers to Suha Arafat, a former first lady of palestine, I might be wrong
I used to listen to this song nearly every day on my walk home from high school, my senior year. I wanted so badly to leave, those days. As soon as I graduated, I impulsively moved to New York City and became a transsexual. I'd say I'd wish I could go back to the woodsy solitude and the simplicity of then, but that wouldn't be very fair, would it.
same
like literally same
good for you
in a sincere way not sarcastic
all of you are blessed
my interpretation:
first of all, a quote from jamie stewart on the song - "my mom told me that she wanted to die. so she drove to the tenderloin and walked around and asked people to murder her for me money as a way to kill herself. she felt like she couldnt kill herself by her own hand but she tried to get people to murder her . . . i guess the lyrics are not literally about what i said about my mom. i mean they dont really illustrate it narratively. but thats what the song is about in my little stupid heart" from drunk commentary (th-cam.com/video/z74QfZoWwgU/w-d-xo.html)
"black lung got you down tonight
saving it all for work"
work playing a role in suha's misery is exemplified throughout the track. black lung is an illness that people would get from working in the coal mines
"suha with her arms to her side
watching her twin want to die"
most likely describes suha staring at herself in the mirror
"i hate my body
i hate the desert
please let me escape
when will i be going home?
i hate my husband
i hate my children
im gonna hang myself
when will i be going home?"
she feels trapped in her life situation
"black hair got you down tonight"
referring to herself or maybe one of her family members
"black love black cuts from your work"
i thought about this line for a while and i think this is jamie's perspective from growing up with his mom. "from work" refers to the fact that many people take out their stress and difficulties on their loved ones and family. he is partially attributing this to why he was treated with "black love" and "black cuts" by his mom
"weep like the busted girl you are"
this is one of my favorite lines ever. it is almost goading suha. and given the context of the previous line, it makes a lot of sense
"wash down your hope in that car"
i believe this is about alcoholism
"my name is suha
im 25 years old
im gonna hump a cop
when will i be going home"
a reference to suicide-by-cop as illustrated in jamie's quote above
sorry if this is a bit of bummer just wanted to get it out
I think this might be the best song of all time
I love how melancholic and depressing this song feels while also feeling kind of calming.
My name is suha, this song is perfection I cry to it :)
I searched my name and.............now I'm not sure if it was a good idea.
Good song though :)
haha. I always thought it was a nice name. Been listening to this album for almost 15 years.
,i would bè thankful for the wonderful name that bŕought you here
We love you, Suha
happy introduction to xiu xiu :D
If you're here listening to this, I hope you're doing okay.
i'm not
@@thistrazioni5330 me neither tbh
listening to this and doing okay is an oxymoron
Since we're here listening to this, I hope we all get better.
I'm not doing okay, life is too fast and I can't slow it down. I hope it all pans out
Coming home holds the as much promise and sweet release as any narcotic - the sensation is much sweeter to be desired than obtained. Illusion remains the strongest drug of all self-destructive impulse
What a gem
Black lung got you down.... tonight

WHEN WILL I BECOMING HOME?
