    The one thing that old knifes have is character and the proportions are better. A pocket knife should not be an anchor. 🤙

    I recall a discussion about about Green Bone and Green Stag between Steve Koontz and Tony Watkins some 10 or so years ago. From what I understand back in the day, the Green Bone and Stag were not really green. They used a green dye but the bone and/or stag was actually turned a shade of brown. with maybe just a hint of olive to it. They later called the color "Antique Green Bone."
    I agree with you about the brass vs. stainless steel liners. Even if they are using a softer steel (and I sure hope they are) You still have steel against steel. Brass also has an advantage when it comes to thermal conduction, which albiet would be ever so slight considering what were talking about, but it does mean it would have an advantage when it came to reducing friction between the blades and the liners. Brass is the way to go with traditional slip joints. It will produce less friction than even 316, especially if the blade is 420-440 series Stainless. I think you can get away with 316 stainless when you're using something like ATS-34 or even VG-10. as long as the heat treat is good. I know some modern folders using modern super steels will use a 420 liners for added strength but that's a different animal.
    I think one of the problems with many of the current production USA made traditional slip joints is the tooling is just getting worn out.

      @KnifeChatswithTobias I don't know about Green bone. I've read much the same as you. It wasn't Green bone. Rather as the dye faded a Green color appeared as Green spots in the bone. Others say that Green bone can appear a deep Green.
      I think it highlights how even now, we know so little.
      I think Case in particular has upgraded its machinery as it sought to increase production. Although old machinery was a reality in the 90s, I'm not sure that's true today. I think perhaps they lag some companies in cnc machine and water or wire cutting techniques. But if they use those techniques, wouldn't the knives look like Bokers or Rosecraft? Which don't look traditional at all?
