If You Remember Me Chris Thompson When you remember me If you remember me I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be Or I'd be with you now But wherever you go My love goes with you Keep on smiling Keep on shinning Even though you know you wanna cry I tried to love you Looking in my eyes You saw promises and lies Too many times When you remember me If you remember me I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be Or I'd be with you now But wherever you go My love goes with you I'll be with you Keep believing Some things even time can't come between And if you blame me Try to realize There were promises and lies too many times When you remember me If you remember me I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be Or I'd be with you now But wherever you go My love goes with you Oh, my love goes with you
Thanks to whoever posted this.(finderlostsongs) I've only been ever to find a shorter MMcD version, bad audio played over the credits of "The Champ" I never really knew wrote it. Sager and Hamlish makes perfect sense. I've only known of it from the Chris Thompson version. This is a great song and doesn't hurt to have this guy singing it. The Johnny Mathis live verson of this is also very good also but, Michael Mc Donald's voice fits the melancholy message of the this song perfectly.
Thank you so much for this. I remember hearing McDonald's version ONCE as the background music in the original trailer for "The Champ". For decades I've wondered if I was delusional as I never again heard that version.
Michael McDonald really sounds great, but did you watch the youtube video of marvin hamlisch playing piano and Johnny Mathis singing the song. It is the best version never to be recorded in a studio.
Esta canción pertenece a las canciones trankililas suaves románticas de colección especial y rebuscadas q solo puede valorar las un coleccionista y conocedor de buena musica
Been looking for this great song for a very long time---I heard it in the preview for "The Champ"---but I think it was cut out of the movie---Thank you so much!!!
+Gary Morris I remember it being in the preview, as well. People used to tell me I was crazy; that there was no Michael McDonald version. I think they used the Chris Thompson version in the movie.
They used neither - the song was cut. However the Chris Thompson version was put on the soundtrack. It was included at the insistence of the producers as it fitted the scene it was intended for so well (the reunion scene).
Because neither this trailer version or the one recorded for the soundtrack by Chris Thompson (both equally as great) were used in the final film, the song was not eligible for the Best Original Song Academy Award. It surely would have been nominated, if not win. The film’s score by Dave Grusin, however, was nominated.
I think both version speaks volume of their individual skills. Though I have 2 say t hat c his Thompson version has more feelings when he sang his version and that is why it was given to him and he made that hit.
It's the exact same backing performance. Clearly they recorded the full arrangement minus vocal first, then auditioned different vocalists on top of it.
Great Job Michael !
This is the best version.
Oh, my!.….I love this version....so moving..I can listen to this all day long 💗
I don't think anyone could have taken on this song like M.M. and brought out the best in his voice and this beautiful song 👍❤️👍
Helemaal waar❤
Best and most moving version of this song!
Michael McDonald should have his version of that song in an album called Unreleased Songs
Just heard this on the radio after so many years. Georgeous song!!
Linda música,me lembra os tempos românticos
Chris Thompson version is great, but .. who tops Mickey Mack!😉💓💓🙏🙏
He has a beautiful voice that some women fell in love with him!
If You Remember Me
Chris Thompson
When you remember me
If you remember me
I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be
Or I'd be with you now
But wherever you go
My love goes with you
Keep on smiling
Keep on shinning
Even though you know you wanna cry
I tried to love you
Looking in my eyes
You saw promises and lies
Too many times
When you remember me
If you remember me
I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be
Or I'd be with you now
But wherever you go
My love goes with you
I'll be with you
Keep believing
Some things even time can't come between
And if you blame me
Try to realize
There were promises and lies too many times
When you remember me
If you remember me
I hope you see it's not the way I wanted to be
Or I'd be with you now
But wherever you go
My love goes with you
Oh, my love goes with you
thanks for writing the words to this incredible song

Props to MM for taking this one on. It is a powerful song. Fighting back tears.

Yes...I bet that's just about the ONLY place you will find it.
Very rare track indeed...thanks for sharing
No one beats Chris Thompson for this song

James Ingram plus Kenny Rogers is equal to Michael McDonald.
I think both version speaks volume of their individual skills. Though I have 2 say t hat c his Thompson version has more feelings when he sang his version and that is why it was given to him and he made that hit.
this was a demo? man, that's speaks to MM's talent...this sounds like a real recording, I like it better than Chris Thompson's single.
It's the exact same backing performance. Clearly they recorded the full arrangement minus vocal first, then auditioned different vocalists on top of it.
Great 'find' ....Curious to know where you did actually find this ? Only thought it existed on the movie premier tape !
is this on any of his albums?
This song is taken from a rare promotional box set "Carole Bayer Sager - Songbook". It is not included in his albums
_Theme from THE CLAMP_ . . . i think you mean CHAMP.
Thanks for your updating....
He sounds like Michael Bolton
In the porno world, it would've been "Theme from THE CLAP."
