For what its worth two things. 1. Dont climb aboard another ship to look at it. It'll take off with you in it with no way to get home and not sure where your going. 2. Also dont decide to go EVA while your in the other ship its a long trip. But if you make it to the highway gate you can go through it while EVA and I ended up in the next quadrant. Even farther from home now.......was a blast though and I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.
this is what i though elite was going to be with station interaction with a avatar that you create but your still stuck in a cockpit really wish elite would get that feature asap
@@happyrouge uhhh no.. Elite is still just a flight Sim, not even close to what X4 is. Elite is constrained because of the online feature while X4 can be vast since its single player
Don't forget that, when you're in combat, you can rattle the other ships pilot to the point where they eject! This has been a feature in almost all X games for ages :D

This is looking great... Maybe a bit rough around the edges, but that's Egosoft for you... I expect that this game will be very good indeed given a year or two of patching. But I'm just looking forward to getting back into an X game. It's been a long time, and there's nothing else like them. It looks to me like they really focused on evolving that X dna this time around. I think old school X vets have a lot to be excited about here.

Thanks for that nice review :-) Little remark, at 8:56 you're dropping a satelite at the anomly's place... that's what Nav beacons are for... Nav's won't be shooted by opposing factions (sats and probes might get shooted), and you can name your Nav, to get an easy reading afterwards :-) Well, after over 250hours playing X4, you'll get all those little things by experience (or youtubing some tutorials, a must be with that game!!!) :-) Thnks again for your time put into that review, appreciated :-) :-) Cheeers
@733Rafael You can easily pull some "true-random" noise from real-life static, or even just snatch a seed from someone already doing it, and use it. True randomness is kinda useless for a video game though, letting players input a seed is enough.
@733Rafael you got that wrong, the count up to 1HZ in processor crystals are pretty much as random as it gets, since each CPU have a different count and the momment you request a read on the number returns true randomness as it can warry beatween 0 and 40K in a single second. Everything is relative btw. The randomness gained from CPU crystal is way within the reasonable expectation for a consumer who himself inputs part of the randomness by chosing the given moment to request the "data", wich he cannot possibly recreate in a controled way in a normal envoriment unless pure LUCK is involved :)
Only gripe i have with the game so far are these. Also just to be clear. I am loving this game so far. 1. Alot of the stuff that is in the game is frustratingly sparse with information. I have items that are labeled gifts. they are suppose to be used to boost your crew's attributes. *piloting, engineering, morale so on and so on* But have absolutely no clue as of 4 hours trying to figure out how to apply it. 2. Once again you have items also, like stations modules and such. but it does not give you any information about them or what they are used for. Security slicing items. among other things. You look in the built in wiki about the item. it does not give you any information. You want to know what you need to build that station module? oh you need these things. But how many? nothing. 3. Some of the path finding and or other orders you can give your pilots. Is buggy. I ordered a pilot in a heavy fighter to attack a xenon N. the ship just stood there. looked up and down. Never fired it's gun once. almost lost a 1.3 million ship to a enemy my starter could ruin while drinking tea. 4. Crew skills. You can hire crews. There is Service Crew members with ranks in them. Apprentice, another rank and specialist. How do they upgrade? what do they do? what is their uses. You have Marines. Same thing. 3 ranks. But what does this mean. Hell if I knew. But I do know this. You get a guy to eject his ship. Make sure you have a Marine in your ship. go close to enemy ship. right click and click claim. BUT don't be moving around seems to make them just circle the enemy ship not doing anything. 5. Be careful about carrying inventory around with you. Like he said you can craft stuff. but some of the stuff is illegal and you have no idea at all where you can sell some of your illegal stuffs. And that being said. These are some of the thing's I am not too happy about. But that aside. I am enjoying myself. If you guys have any answers to these thing's I have problems with feel free to reply with answer's please. That would be great! Cheers!
the x series has never really been about combat? U WOT M8? it's the only reason i still play x3:ap to death, to have huge fleets of ships have at it. to use fighter wings to take down larger vessels, to destroy whole sectors and conquer them.... overtaking the whole universe in the end. (yea it takes couple/ton of mods for it, but i play X pretty much purely for combat. all the other things are just nice side things)
@@ObsidianAnt You've obviously not gone up against a wing of Xenon yet. Not dogfighting like your used to in Elite Dangerous - but still a desperate fight nevertheless.
I'd add that X4 is automatically superior to X3 when it comes down to fleet engagements, because FINALLY you can do Homeworld style, point and click orders on map. This was the one thing that kept me from empire management - lack of a suitable interface. They fixed it now. It's all ogre now.
x2 and x3 were games with full scale dogfighting. in x3, except being other half of game in panther, nova or eclipse with antimissile set up were most used ships. and those ships are not meant for anything else but dogfighting. sure you could do trading all the time. but dogfight was most played aspect of game. and of course, also against xenon wings.
Someone's coming after Nividium again. You know they don't like that, especially right after that gate shutdown. Makes me wonder what happened to the Gate Hub.
Awesome. Was going to give it a couple months before I bought it because of how buggy Egosoft games tend to be, but I think i'll pick this one up this week.
its nowhere near as bad as XR but id wait a month or so mate, its rather buggy for me. i have 2 computers 1 laptop and a desktop, it was nigh unplayable for some reason on my laptop (which has a 960 and a i7-5700HQ) but oddly enough it runs decently on my low spec pc (a10 7850k and a 750ti) which is....puzzling coz the laptops like 4 times better than my PC, so i think its just down to optimization the foundation of the game is there, and it looks brilliant, they just haven't quite got there yet, when they patch it up i genuinely think it will be a masterpiece)
qqq qqq same issue for me. It is still playable but I think it comes from the intel graphic card connected on the CPU. The game doesn’t offer to use the 960 graphic card. I had such a problem once. I’ll report to Egosoft. Game looks nice.
Refunded already, everytime I used highway it either crashed the game or teleported me back to the enterance I was. Alot of the time throttle in the ship just stoped working also for some reason my PC is around the same as ObsidianAnt's but I can barely get 20fps on low near a station.
Damn this looks like something I could sink hundreds of hours into as I did with previous X games. Unfortunately theres no Linux support yet and it doesnt work on Proton/Wine. Oh well, by the time it works on Linux it will have a bunch of good patches & mods behind it so it will be worth the wait.
This is the game I was waiting for. Can we agree that this is what truly means "leaving breathing universe" and use it as measurement for other games too?
I wanted thank you Obsidian for all the awesome game reveiws and play throughs. Your vids on elite dangerous actually got me into that game which is one of my favorites. I've been waiting for x4 but your live stream and reviews have been helpful as well. I also was wondering what you think of or if you know about the game Hellion. I love it so far even though itis still early in development.
Thank God they changed the UI, it was the godamn time, I'm playing X games since 1999 and all through X-Rebirth they maintained a high degree of keyboard shortcuts and menu navigating, like its 1998 !

Really, really pleased to hear it's not a bug filled mess, as this is what traditionally X games are on release. I was interested in getting it maybe if I felt I could tolerate playing past the bugs, so now apparently this isn't an issue.
What settings are you running? I've beginning to suspect I really need to upgrade my CPU (which is for some people a "duh, you do!" moment, but for games released before 2018, it could keep up quite well still) from my i7 2600K @4.6GHz Seeing those frames, and seeing improvements in performance of other newer games like Star Citizen, compared to other people's reports, I realize my CPU might really need an upgrade this time.
Im playing on a 10 year old 1st gen i7-950, 24gig ram, GTX970, win7.. X4 plays great in 1080p on ultra, no AA ( dont like AA). I get 30fps in stations and a solid 60fps in space.
Maybe a little weird question, but there is an "up and down" orientation at space in this game or its like elite were there is no preferred orientation on space?
There is a setting for auto-roll. It's default on and it sucks because it will rotate you to the flat at most inopportune times. Turn it off and there really isn't a preferred plane. Having said that most stations seem to be on the +/- side of 15% of that plane.
Can you please explain the pulse scan? I saw another video and when the ship mode was in long range scan mode he said to press the R key to get it to scan. I tried it but nothing happened and no explanation in control settings that I could see. BTW, Love your videos!
I can only imagine that the popularity of _Elite_ and _Star Citizen_ have allowed X4 to get the funds to get made, especially after the whole "Rebirth" debacle (which was HORRIBLE for us X fans to live through - WHAT were they thinking!?) great to know there's still a healthy market for this kind of experience! But I'm going to wait for the GOTY with mods before getting stuck in. :)
Game is awesome, may feel strange or empty for people who never played X games before. SOme people I read immediately run into combat and look for Khak or Xenon to ambush, or lacking pirate attention. Some saying that things are slow. The thing is that you have to advance the economy and invest a lot of hours into the game to allow the factions to expand their powers. As you are new, factions are pretty new as well. XR and other previous games had static economies and factions that were already advanced when you started the game. In X4, everything grows accordingly to overall progress of the game. It makes it quite interesting and every play through unique.
A few things I'm wandering about, a) How close is this sector map/universe to previous versions of the X series? Will I be able to travel from sector Eighteen Billion through Xenon 347 to Scale Plate Green? b) Is there any hidden gates in any of the sectors? Like in Maelstrom leading to an Unknown Sector, which also had a hidden gate leading to another Unknown Sector. c) Is there any hidden ships to claim?
a) Not close at all. The old network was shutdown, this is all new routes to some new and some old familiar places. Roguey has a map-in-progress; roguey.co.uk/x4/universe/ b) I haven't found any hidden gates yet so I can't answer yea or nay on that. There are the anomalies, I popped into one and ended up in a Xenon sector (Atiyas Misfortune), went back through and ended up in a completely different Paranid sector from where I started, I didn't try it again, but I will as I marked it w/ a Nav Beacon. Interesting, to say the least. c) Haven't found any unclaimed ships.
You never mentioned if you could capture ships, I really wanted to find out if this aspect was still a part of the game. The previous capture method on X-Rebirth was unique and I liked it, as buggy as that game was. I liked the Capture and sabotage aspects and wonder how they are handled in this version of the game.
So, despite the roughness; would you recommend the game or not? I mean, Egosoft has always stood for tough love, I can get that, but is this game a worthy successor to X3AP?
So I've been playing a few hours now, things were going great but now my engines always return to a thrust of 0. IE: If I set my speed to 80 m/s, my speed will stay there and the accelerator indicator will return to 0 thrust, same when reversing, same when in flight mode. Any ideas?
Or. You can board random ship docked in station. And then when pilot comes back. Do not leave. Watch him take off and fly fuck knows where. Before realising there will be no way to come back. Eject yourself in middle of the space and navigate your own ship to pick you up... It took 1 hour to get back for me once 😅🤣
This game looks more like my speed and style of enjoyment. I don't mind MMO games but as a solo gamer I like not having to chill and take my time exploring games.
Hi Mr. Ant What will your video content look like for this game? Will it be live streams in a more let's play style or will you focus on some of the oddities and interesting elements of the game?
I like the look of the modular ship design and landing on a capital ship while it goes about its business. I have some questions though. Can you stop at stations and get random missions such as "my daughter was kidnapped and you have to save her before the pirates escape?" cos they were always fun and good for money. Also are all the usual races in the game? What is the music like? Do pilots still eject when you're attacking them? Then you capture them and sell them to the pirates?
On my i7-8700K, 16Gb Ram, Nvidia 1070 and Asus PG248Q GSYNC monitor at 120Hz refresh, I get a disappointing 43 fps in station :/ Scuttlebutt on forums is that there's some funky glitching going on with regards to X4's Vulkan graphics rendering and Nvidia driver bug regarding Vsync settings. In-game 'No Vsync' option cannot be selected and you see a error message about hardware 'Not supported on this hardware' :/
Have you tried flying with your HOTAS set up. I bought it at launch and have been setting up controls and writing a Voice Attack VAP profile. Fly high fly fast, fly dangerously
So hyped on getting this game. Although it's Single Player I would've liked to seen a touch of Multiplayer(2-4 player co op or something). But like you said Multiplayer games usually make concessions and X4 doesn't have to compromise itself for it.
It's good to hear that walking around stations isn't forced down your throat. That being said, what is it like to do that? A major reason why I haven't made any noteworthy progress in X Rebirth is that walking around the stations and the conversations were forced upon you.... and they were so bleeding tedious. Walking around wasn't fun, and having the same conversations over and over again wasn't fun. So did they hopefully make improvements to that system?
Moving in station is easier and faster thanks to teleportation system and moving pads. Some of the personal upgrade (the player, not the ship) are only available through in-station purchase
I used to love to get lost for hours in x3: Terran conflict. Loved that game. Then I saw what they were doing with the next one and skipped it. Here’s hoping this one remembers what was great about the series and runs with it.
I still want a replacement for X-Wing's fleet engagements, with mass swarms of fighters and capital ships to pack hunt. Any chance X4 has stuff like that?
This game is for niche audience. If you like sendbox in space the it is worth especially if you don't mind learning curve because it has so many systems. Game has passionate modding community that will make game so much better and it will get updated for years to come. It is not regular game, I would advise you to maybe watch some videos from TheXPGamers and how he plays X3.
It's a very good game, but requires a degree of set up for the controllers and has a steep learning curve. It seems essentially set up for mouse and keyboard, so game pad and HOTAS require some attention at the start. Everything seems customisable, but you need to do this while familiarising yourself with the game as it is not obvious which functions you need, or indeed where to find the custom settings. I have played X3 and later ones with a simple joystick and keyboard setup. Now I have game pad and HOTAS as well, pad is great for walking about, HOTAS for flying, but it is a drag to have to set this up in the beginning. that said, the X games are great fun with lots of game play. this looks very much in the spirit of the previous games, and way better then Rebirth. I have done 1.5 hours so far, and most of that was set up (late here, so too tired to do any more). Tomorrow is another day, and so I'll get onto that then... Thanks Obsidian Ant for a good overview. I hope this doesn't mean you are abandoning the Elite Dangerous community!
I tried setting up my HOTAS and just gave up and switched to keyboard only. I feel keyboard + mouse is much better for X4. It still feels good when flying and its much better when managing your empire.
It’s interesting that you don’t really get any crashes, but my install crashes to desktop repeatedly (usually when opening the map after undocking). I’ve also run into a lot of issues with menu options not displaying the text though you can still click on them, also it will lock on the trader’s talk option so that you can’t sit in the cockpit or interact with the crafting station without saving and reloading.
X3 gave me many hours of fun, i'm sure X4 will as well. going to be a while before I can afford it though, hopefully it will be a little more cleaned up by then.
If Elite Dangerous had X4's Empire Building features and allowed you to own as many ships as you liked that you could send off to trade for you? Then it would be the greatest space sim game ever and effectively make Star Citizen have to up it's game further which would probably seal it's fate as it's already taking way too long and people are anxious and questioning if this will be the biggest flop/scam in crowd funding history?

It's looking good. I played more than two thousand hours of Terran conflict and another thousand of albion prelude. I bought the deluxe edition of Rebirth but put it down after only three hours with a headache and no desire to ever play it again.
I get 30FPS on stations on an rx580 8GB card, oddly enough it seems like the GPU strains itself more in space then it does on stations for some reason, dunno why that is. You just get crap FPS on stations no matter what settings you pick.
Share your screen resolution as well as that also would affect your performance in games. If you are playing on 4K resolution with streaming software it will also affect performance.
Got about 12 hours under my belt. Only issue I've had so far is the pathing AI is - shall we say - not great. Thats fixable though. Egosoft is a pretty small company and to come back fighting after the disaster of X:Rebirth is pretty amazing in and of itself.
I have some performance issues, too. 1070ti on WQHD and 2/4x MSAA on high settings is not enjoyable for my taste. But that's nothing which couldn't be fixed with some patches. I'd say EgoSoft did a good job here based on my first Impressions, too. But I'll take my time with a full review - no one knows how mid or endgame plays at the moment.
@@DJ_NOOB same here. I also assume there's some kind of t(x)aa hidden behind the fxaa setting because agressive fxaa should cause way more blur than it seemingly does here.

I love the past x games. This one,, The only things I don't like is the Hud , The ship feels like your flying a paper ship not something heavy at all. But i guess I have got use to ED ships. But it's vary early and I'm sure Egosoft will work on it

X games Autopilot is famous for being a drunk AI, in every iteration of the game !
in tc-ap autopilot is too cautious, especially in terran sectors, but works good.
I have a pilot who flies my ship like a drunk man on drugs, spinning the ship wildly when landing and crashing *through* stations :)

The sectors must be randomized each new game... Your map is completely different from mine!

the foundation of the game is there, and it looks brilliant, they just haven't quite got there yet, when they patch it up i genuinely think it will be a masterpiece)
qqq qqq same issue for me. It is still playable but I think it comes from the intel graphic card connected on the CPU. The game doesn’t offer to use the 960 graphic card. I had such a problem once. I’ll report to Egosoft. Game looks nice.
Refunded already, everytime I used highway it either crashed the game or teleported me back to the enterance I was. Alot of the time throttle in the ship just stoped working also for some reason my PC is around the same as ObsidianAnt's but I can barely get 20fps on low near a station.
Damn this looks like something I could sink hundreds of hours into as I did with previous X games. Unfortunately theres no Linux support yet and it doesnt work on Proton/Wine. Oh well, by the time it works on Linux it will have a bunch of good patches & mods behind it so it will be worth the wait.
This is the game I was waiting for.

I wanted thank you Obsidian for all the awesome game reveiws and play throughs. Your vids on elite dangerous actually got me into that game which is one of my favorites. I've been waiting for x4 but your live stream and reviews have been helpful as well. I also was wondering what you think of or if you know about the game Hellion. I love it so far even though itis still early in development.
Thank God they changed the UI, it was the godamn time, I'm playing X games since 1999 and all through X-Rebirth they maintained a high degree of keyboard shortcuts and menu navigating, like its 1998 !

This game is gonna be really fun to play in 2020, after a lot of people created bunch of mods and patches for it and the company fixed the bugs.

Really, really pleased to hear it's not a bug filled mess, as this is what traditionally X games are on release. I was interested in getting it maybe if I felt I could tolerate playing past the bugs, so now apparently this isn't an issue.

What settings are you running? I've beginning to suspect I really need to upgrade my CPU (which is for some people a "duh, you do!" moment, but for games released before 2018, it could keep up quite well still) from my i7 2600K @4.6GHz
Seeing those frames, and seeing improvements in performance of other newer games like Star Citizen, compared to other people's reports, I realize my CPU might really need an upgrade this time.
Im playing on a 10 year old 1st gen i7-950, 24gig ram, GTX970, win7..
X4 plays great in 1080p on ultra, no AA ( dont like AA).
I get 30fps in stations and a solid 60fps in space.

Maybe a little weird question, but there is an "up and down" orientation at space in this game or its like elite were there is no preferred orientation on space?
There is a setting for auto-roll. It's default on and it sucks because it will rotate you to the flat at most inopportune times. Turn it off and there really isn't a preferred plane. Having said that most stations seem to be on the +/- side of 15% of that plane.

It is smaller but less than it seems if you just compare the Sector count, from what I have gathered, the sectors are much bigger
@@SolidSteak01 sectors are actually near infinite, it continously generates space if you go in one direction.
Very happy this has a vast map and does not appear to be a cluttered claustrophobic universe like that in Rebirth.
The station u build is it a mine? or did u build it around an asteriod just for look?
Favorite part of X3 was flying around in my Wooden and seeing all the turrets fire at enemy ships. Then restocking and doing all that.
How does it compare to the flight model and dogfighting in elite dangerous?
Sounds like a return to form for Egosoft. Hope the game does well for them and looking forwards to some incredible mods in the future.

Can you please explain the pulse scan? I saw another video and when the ship mode was in long range scan mode he said to press the R key to get it to scan. I tried it but nothing happened and no explanation in control settings that I could see. BTW, Love your videos!
Found it, on my game it was secondary fire, maybe R is what the default key mapping is for secondary fire
I can only imagine that the popularity of _Elite_ and _Star Citizen_ have allowed X4 to get the funds to get made,
especially after the whole "Rebirth" debacle (which was HORRIBLE for us X fans to live through - WHAT were they thinking!?)
great to know there's still a healthy market for this kind of experience! But I'm going to wait for the GOTY with mods before getting stuck in. :)

At 2:50 what’s a Kraft Mk II from Elite Dangerous doing in the game?
Game is awesome, may feel strange or empty for people who never played X games before. SOme people I read immediately run into combat and look for Khak or Xenon to ambush, or lacking pirate attention. Some saying that things are slow. The thing is that you have to advance the economy and invest a lot of hours into the game to allow the factions to expand their powers. As you are new, factions are pretty new as well. XR and other previous games had static economies and factions that were already advanced when you started the game. In X4, everything grows accordingly to overall progress of the game. It makes it quite interesting and every play through unique.
A few things I'm wandering about,
a) How close is this sector map/universe to previous versions of the X series? Will I be able to travel from sector Eighteen Billion through Xenon 347 to Scale Plate Green?
b) Is there any hidden gates in any of the sectors? Like in Maelstrom leading to an Unknown Sector, which also had a hidden gate leading to another Unknown Sector.
c) Is there any hidden ships to claim?
a) Not close at all. The old network was shutdown, this is all new routes to some new and some old familiar places. Roguey has a map-in-progress; roguey.co.uk/x4/universe/
b) I haven't found any hidden gates yet so I can't answer yea or nay on that. There are the anomalies, I popped into one and ended up in a Xenon sector (Atiyas Misfortune), went back through and ended up in a completely different Paranid sector from where I started, I didn't try it again, but I will as I marked it w/ a Nav Beacon. Interesting, to say the least.
c) Haven't found any unclaimed ships.
You never mentioned if you could capture ships, I really wanted to find out if this aspect was still a part of the game. The previous capture method on X-Rebirth was unique and I liked it, as buggy as that game was. I liked the Capture and sabotage aspects and wonder how they are handled in this version of the game.
when I'm done with Elite Dangerous, I'll look into this X4 game.

So I've been playing a few hours now, things were going great but now my engines always return to a thrust of 0. IE: If I set my speed to 80 m/s, my speed will stay there and the accelerator indicator will return to 0 thrust, same when reversing, same when in flight mode. Any ideas?
There is an option somewhere that you can turn off that default setting, but can't remember where.

Or. You can board random ship docked in station. And then when pilot comes back. Do not leave. Watch him take off and fly fuck knows where. Before realising there will be no way to come back. Eject yourself in middle of the space and navigate your own ship to pick you up... It took 1 hour to get back for me once 😅🤣
This game looks more like my speed and style of enjoyment.
I don't mind MMO games but as a solo gamer I like not having to chill and take my time exploring games.

I like the look of the modular ship design and landing on a capital ship while it goes about its business. I have some questions though. Can you stop at stations and get random missions such as "my daughter was kidnapped and you have to save her before the pirates escape?" cos they were always fun and good for money. Also are all the usual races in the game? What is the music like? Do pilots still eject when you're attacking them? Then you capture them and sell them to the pirates?
On my i7-8700K, 16Gb Ram, Nvidia 1070 and Asus PG248Q GSYNC monitor at 120Hz refresh, I get a disappointing 43 fps in station :/
Scuttlebutt on forums is that there's some funky glitching going on with regards to X4's Vulkan graphics rendering and Nvidia driver bug regarding Vsync settings. In-game 'No Vsync' option cannot be selected and you see a error message about hardware 'Not supported on this hardware' :/

Have you tried flying with your HOTAS set up. I bought it at launch and have been setting up controls and writing a Voice Attack VAP profile. Fly high fly fast, fly dangerously
So hyped on getting this game. Although it's Single Player I would've liked to seen a touch of Multiplayer(2-4 player co op or something). But like you said Multiplayer games usually make concessions and X4 doesn't have to compromise itself for it.
It's good to hear that walking around stations isn't forced down your throat. That being said, what is it like to do that? A major reason why I haven't made any noteworthy progress in X Rebirth is that walking around the stations and the conversations were forced upon you.... and they were so bleeding tedious. Walking around wasn't fun, and having the same conversations over and over again wasn't fun. So did they hopefully make improvements to that system?
Moving in station is easier and faster thanks to teleportation system and moving pads. Some of the personal upgrade (the player, not the ship) are only available through in-station purchase
I used to love to get lost for hours in x3: Terran conflict.
Loved that game.
Then I saw what they were doing with the next one and skipped it.
Here’s hoping this one remembers what was great about the series and runs with it.
I still want a replacement for X-Wing's fleet engagements, with mass swarms of fighters and capital ships to pack hunt. Any chance X4 has stuff like that?

Very tempted by this, but just got back into no man's sky. Is it definitely worth a purchase?
This game is for niche audience. If you like sendbox in space the it is worth especially if you don't mind learning curve because it has so many systems. Game has passionate modding community that will make game so much better and it will get updated for years to come.
It is not regular game, I would advise you to maybe watch some videos from TheXPGamers and how he plays X3.

It's a very good game, but requires a degree of set up for the controllers and has a steep learning curve. It seems essentially set up for mouse and keyboard, so game pad and HOTAS require some attention at the start. Everything seems customisable, but you need to do this while familiarising yourself with the game as it is not obvious which functions you need, or indeed where to find the custom settings.
I have played X3 and later ones with a simple joystick and keyboard setup. Now I have game pad and HOTAS as well, pad is great for walking about, HOTAS for flying, but it is a drag to have to set this up in the beginning. that said, the X games are great fun with lots of game play. this looks very much in the spirit of the previous games, and way better then Rebirth. I have done 1.5 hours so far, and most of that was set up (late here, so too tired to do any more). Tomorrow is another day, and so I'll get onto that then...

I tried setting up my HOTAS and just gave up and switched to keyboard only. I feel keyboard + mouse is much better for X4. It still feels good when flying and its much better when managing your empire.

It’s interesting that you don’t really get any crashes, but my install crashes to desktop repeatedly (usually when opening the map after undocking). I’ve also run into a lot of issues with menu options not displaying the text though you can still click on them, also it will lock on the trader’s talk option so that you can’t sit in the cockpit or interact with the crafting station without saving and reloading.
where do i find capitans ? and pilots?
You can hire crew on the stations. Just hire them, select ship and what position they should work. That's it!

Look for the big blue shopping cart lights on the sides of the landing pads on stations.

X3 gave me many hours of fun, i'm sure X4 will as well. going to be a while before I can afford it though, hopefully it will be a little more cleaned up by then.

If Elite Dangerous had X4's Empire Building features and allowed you to own as many ships as you liked that you could send off to trade for you? Then it would be the greatest space sim game ever and effectively make Star Citizen have to up it's game further which would probably seal it's fate as it's already taking way too long and people are anxious and questioning if this will be the biggest flop/scam in crowd funding history?

I played more than two thousand hours of Terran conflict and another thousand of albion prelude.
I bought the deluxe edition of Rebirth but put it down after only three hours with a headache and no desire to ever play it again.
I'm getting 30+ fps on an r9 280 on high settings. Are you all running Star Citizen in the background or something?
I get 30FPS on stations on an rx580 8GB card, oddly enough it seems like the GPU strains itself more in space then it does on stations for some reason, dunno why that is. You just get crap FPS on stations no matter what settings you pick.

Share your screen resolution as well as that also would affect your performance in games. If you are playing on 4K resolution with streaming software it will also affect performance.
Got about 12 hours under my belt. Only issue I've had so far is the pathing AI is - shall we say - not great. Thats fixable though. Egosoft is a pretty small company and to come back fighting after the disaster of X:Rebirth is pretty amazing in and of itself.
I have some performance issues, too. 1070ti on WQHD and 2/4x MSAA on high settings is not enjoyable for my taste. But that's nothing which couldn't be fixed with some patches. I'd say EgoSoft did a good job here based on my first Impressions, too. But I'll take my time with a full review - no one knows how mid or endgame plays at the moment.
Anything other than FXAA makes the performance take a big dump. I pretty decent performance with FXAA on high and it looked good.
@@DJ_NOOB same here. I also assume there's some kind of t(x)aa hidden behind the fxaa setting because agressive fxaa should cause way more blur than it seemingly does here.

I love the past x games. This one,, The only things I don't like is the Hud , The ship feels like your flying a paper ship not something heavy at all. But i guess I have got use to ED ships. But it's vary early and I'm sure Egosoft will work on it
