  • Check out how to create a small concrete fire pit you can use as a feature piece in your home! I also created a concrete bowl with a unique design. The possibilities of what you can create with concrete are endless! Let me know which one you liked better :)

    Be sure to follow fire-safe practices in your home and only put this in a safe location and attend the flames at all times. You can put sand or another fire-safe bowl inside the mold if you're concerned about the fire-proofing of your concrete.

    The air in the concrete can expand if it gets too hot, exploding your fire pit, and allowing the burning alcohol to flow all over everything. Could take a house down pretty quick. The ones you buy online have heat resistant concrete, which you can make on your own as well. I’d also recommend tamping your mold after you have the concrete in it, to get some of those air bubbles out; it’ll make the sides much more smooth.

    I do not mean this offensively at all, your video is well made and your voiceover is great but this is clearly done with no experience. The first bowls concrete is NOT thick enough for the temperature of that volume of fire. That is a huge hazard and could lead to more inexperienced unlucky people losing their homes and or lives in the process. I love the concept and definitely think that it can be DIYed but this one is a dangerous example.
    Need to use specific non absorbent water repellent concrete that wasn’t mentioned, and the thickness on sides and bottom is extremely important. Every and all concrete will have hairline cracks, and if your thickness isn’t right it could leak over time and/or generate too much heat to other flammable sources.
    Sorry to get technical… I know it can be annoying but this is genuinely a dangerous thing to put out there.

    This is a lovely idea but i want to just say. That the amount of water should be a 1:1:1 ratio. One scoop of Portland cement, one scoop of aggregate, one scoop of water. This is an important ratio because concrete will lose most of its natural crystalline structures when it heats up and expands. "The little rocks," are that bond for crystalline structures to form with during the curing process. I love your video and please keep making more!

    2 tips. 1st, when you finish piuring the concrete, tap the sides a few times. That will help with the air pockets, will leave a cleaner solid look. 2nd, mix sand with your alcohol. It's a bit safer. We use to make little fire pits with soda cans.

    I've made similar, but left room in the well for a soup can, which becomes be the container and helps keep heat from the concrete. Also, you could fill the can with perlite or pack in fiberglass insulation or carbon felt as a wick and it'll be safer flame. There's lots of options. I also run a wire or two around the well when setting the concrete to hold it together better. Enjoy and keep it for OUTDOOR use only.

    If someone has issue about the safety of the fire pit you could rest it in a concrete bowl and use both together. I feel the fire pit alone will be fine. But perhaps clumsy people better stick to Led lights

    Spray furniture wax is an easy alternative to the veggie oil for mold release. You can also buy fiber reinforcement for the concrete that mixes in easily while stirring the concrete and water and adds lot of strength to the concrete.

    • @Jsilv934
      @Jsilv934 3 ปีที่แล้ว
