Tie FAT shoelaces the right way. The method I use since 2002.

  • Ever since my first pair of Adidas Superstar Black shoes, I was tying them in a straight pattern, but only with the "fat laces". On thin laces I use the classic cross style. Here you can see me tying my brand new pair of Adidas Campus '80s Bold Aqua with a pair of white 25mm wide fat shoelaces. The technique I am applying was actually taught by a friend of mine (thanks Sroljo) back in 2002.
    Enjoy, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them!

    Early 80s we only laced them like that if we were chequering another colour horizontally through them, only graf characters had them flat across in that simple style, on a real sneaker it just looked too messy, you can - as you did there - feather and pat them neater but walk in them they soon bunch up and lose the uniformity, we put the bottom lace in first (as you did) with equal lace either side then latticed up tucking the remaining excess length inside with a little inch of tails out of the last (but one) holes, this held its shape more securely
    Also to top the look off we rocked 'jelly rolls' which was where you wrapped a sock around your foot then put the laceless sneaker on and laced up, the sock made your foot wider and spread the sneaker open more creating a wider area for the laces, nice to see you keeping that flavour alive tho bro

    Don't put fat laces through the holes...loop regular laces through the holes then put the fat laces through the loops. That's how we did it back in the 80's and then again in the 90's when the style became popular again.

    • @SaleBrutale
      @SaleBrutale  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, thanks for the advice. But I am not sure that I understand this thoroughly. How to loop the regular laces? Like vertically in between holes? Or just tie them normally in criss cross pattern?

    • @jeloroc5418
      @jeloroc5418 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SaleBrutale I'm not sure how to explain it without a picture but basically take the regular laces so they go horizontal across the tongue but vertical up the sides so that there's a loop between each eyelet and then take the wide laces and put them through each loop up the sides between the eyelets so that the fat laces stay flat and look almost as if they are setting on top of your shoe. Sometimes we also put a thin piece of cardboard/card stock underneath the laces to help keep their shape.

    That was fly. I was doing it wrong the whole time. If you had longer laces , would you have left the tips on the side? 💪🏾👍🏾

    • @SaleBrutale
      @SaleBrutale  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually yes, I would have left the tips just sticking out from the both sides. The shoes are untied that way, but the laces underneath the top layer are still snug and keeping the shoe tight on your foot. As if you are wearing slip-ons. Love that technique.

    Why do they fit me so loose tho

    • @SaleBrutale
      @SaleBrutale  ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it is due to tightening the laces at the very beginning. From the inside. And then on the outer part you just stretch those as you will.

  • @mrpresident5186
    @mrpresident5186 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's the wrong way😒 start with the thin laces from the bottom across, then up to make a loop, keep going to the to, them out the fat laces through the thin laces loops😒🤦🏻

    • @SaleBrutale
      @SaleBrutale  ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, I get your point. So what you are suggesting here is for me to put 2x laces per each shoe?
