You once did a video on creating a water system for the rabbits, I'm searching and I cannot find that video, can you paste the link here in the comments plz.
Wonderful. We used to attach the wire to the inside of each side of the cage prior to assembling the sides. This prevented the rabbits from chewing the wood.
Just finished my first one today and ill be building another by next week. I built mine out of some 6/4 maple i slabbed about 10 years ago. We've just had our first 2 litters weened and ive gotta move 16 babies pronto.
I read all the comments, and didn't see my question, so here goes! Why not attach the bottom wire before putting the lid and side panels on? When I made my chicken tractor (Justin Rhodes' Chickshaw 2.0), I shattered my hinge flipping it over. Who knew it was best to follow directions in order?! Maybe your flipping experiences are different from mine. Thanks for the awesome videos! I've almost decided to pick up some silver fox rabbits this spring. :-D
The cost of 2x2 is as much as 2x4 . you can use economy 2x4 or home depot has 70% discount lumber and use plywood triangle braces. Use a dolly to lift one end. Wheels and a hitch could use a garden tractor or ATV to move across a field as unit of six. Easy to move to slaughter area . Lived on 40 acre hobby farm AA a kid. Old milk barn 100x 40 with 20x 100 loading shed. Separate milk house great for processing. We had sheep ducks g Reese rabbits beef 3 milk cows veal horses . two hours day and night chores. Had silo and two story hay storage. Took 3 years to plow and augment soil using lime vetch oats grass grass. Bought small far all tractor. Had separate irrigation well used movable 4" movable alum 20' pipe. We filled silo first cutting second cutting hay custom cutting. Had planted orchard. Used ground salmon guts for home garden 1 acre. Located coastal WA micro climate 40" rain. Freezing but limited snow.
Thank you so much for taking the time to produce such an informative series. It has helped my wife and I decide that we will likely raise pastured meat rabbits on our farm in Alabama. I haven't seen you talk about how well the tractor holds up to predators. We have lots of coyotes around and use an electric poultry net around our pasture chickens. Can you make a video addition to the series around this topic? Again, thank you for taking the time to share this valuable info with us.
Hi Chris. I also live in Alabama. I was wondering how it's going with the rabbits & any predators. Coyotes would also be a concern for us. How are the tractors holding up?
Kevin & Sarah, thanks for this video as it will be very helpful on the new homestead. Kevin, forgot that you once had a beard! Blessings to you both on everything!
I just put a tractor together based on your video and posted a link to your video. I modified the design to be 8 feet long and having the last 2 feet enclosed by a raised floor hutch. 🙂
how are you folks doing in 2022? I enjoy your videos. I am currently raising my own worms for castings and worm tea. I hope to start selling night crawlers next year.
Do you have the supply list for this tractor? Love your videos!! I’m trying to get everything together before I start and learn all I can until I have everything so thank you so much for your videos and knowledge you are sharing
(12) 2”x2”x8’ untreated, (3) 3” hinges 5/8 radius, (1) lockable drawer latch (optl), (1) box of 3/4” poultry staples, (2) 8’x24” corrugated metal, (1) scrap piece corrugated metal 1’x3’ or buy another piece if you don’t have any scrap. Fence (2) 24”x15’ w 1”x1” holes about 14 or 16 gauge, and 36”x12’ roll w 2”x4” holes (I used a scrap piece of rabbit garden fence. I don’t know if it will irk or not ... stand-by!)
Here are wood my cuts: (6) 2”x2”x6’, (7) 2”x2”x33”, (6) 2”x2”x21”, (28) braces at 3 1/4” on the short side and 2-45 degree opposing angles. Metal cuts: (2) 24”x6’, (2) 24”x 24”, (1) 12”x 24”.
Ok, for us in central Kentucky, a secure latch is absolutely necessary! We have had the wind catch the lid 3 times and blow the rabbit tractor over, setting the whole litter free. The first time we just thought turning it to face away from the wind would work... think again! We did catch them (thank goodness our dog was in the house bc of cold weather).
thanx for this video. i want to start raising rabbits ( but my husband dont....to cute to eat he say....) but i´ll still will build cages...so i have ready for rabbits :) and than get my way :)
hahaha good luck to you too :) (try to inform her that meat in store will sky rise when we now will go in to a Grand solar minimum and all the crop losses will effect animal feed...)
How long do these tractors last?Seems like the rabbits will make a meal out out that nice wood?Do you ever break any legs moving the tractors?Nice build thanks for sharing.
Good job !!... Just one question: Can't the metal mesh hurt the rabbits when they eat the grass?... (I've seen others with wooden slats for that reason) If you put the roof at a slight angle you can collect a lot of rainwater and store it for use in dry weather. Even water from the roof can go directly into irrigation ditches on the side of the tractor... The irrigation ditches will in turn feed trees (fruit trees, acacias, etc.) which in turn will provide shade and food for the rabbits... (I suggest creatively applying permaculture techniques in rabbit farming) Greetings from Argentina :)
I plan on building a tractor starting tomorrow. A helpful request. A material list shown as to be screenshoted or even downloaded and printed would be very appreciated. I drew a plan as I watched the video taking notes on materials lengths and any helpful comments, when getting ready to make my shopping list as I was figuring how many and what length 2 by 2 and how much wire I will need it took a few minutes, nothing I couldn't figure out, I can see now why you changed the length from 8 ft to 6 ft, less waste in materials and on the 1 x 2 hardware cloth for the distance around is 18 ft, so it would take one small role would be enough. Just a thought to make it easier for people to get started, really dig your guys videos, very informative and appreciated, I will tell everybody I know, and suggest them to all who want to start doing this, you know how it is when you do it at least four or five more people you know are going to want to do it too. And I definitely plan on getting your cookbook. I am good with my hands but when it comes down to computers and cell phones it makes me regret not having any children of my own to teach me how to do it, LOL. I've used TH-cam before, but this is the most I've ever used it and I still don't even know how to navigate my way around, but I have saved every video of yours I have found I have some chickens for about 4 months now, rabbits are the next step. If I can find your website or get one of my friends to show me, I want to see what products you have I would love to purchase your raising meat rabbits series on DVD and I am purchasing the books you suggested. Well I'm pretty proud of myself I figured out how to edit, lol. If you're feeling froggy, a cut list, I know, I know, why don't you just come build it for me, lol. I just always think of people who have less skills, so it's the thoughts that I have, I am able to answer them, but a lot would be lost
Do you think it would be a good idea in the back section where the tin is giving them a little wall with a doorway, so blustery days they can have more cover. I noticed in this one you did not do that but saw it on others, did you stop doing it for any certain reasons. I'm a very curious person, and I am leaving for Lowe's building materials right now to pick up a load for my first tractor. Also going to be building cages, planning on five does right off the bat and two studs, always like to have a spare. As soon as I finish the first tractor I plan on getting one female so I can start handling it and getting familiar with it while I get the rest of the infrastructure setup, I'm very excited.
Not trying to 2nd guess ya but as I was looking at material I wondered why build the top frame? Could the sheet metal lid be hinged directly to the main frame, thus reducing weight and material cost?
Do you move the rabbit tractor with the bunnies in them? With the 2x4 wire on the bottom dont their little legs hang out the bottom? Is there a danger of injury? Maybe you could have a video on how you move the tractors.
This may have already been asked. Do you separate the bucks from does in the rabbit tractors? Wasn't sure if there was a worry about them trying to mate. Rookie question.... lol. Thanks for the videos. I liked and subscribed. Semper Fi. God Bless.
I'm putting together a hutch and getting my first rabbits. I thought the 1x2 inch would be too big. Couldn't a weasel get through or a raccoon swiping his arm the cage? What about the bottom? 2x4 inch? I know it's for the grass to get through. But again, I'm thinking of weasels digging under with an even bigger opening. Am I over thinking this??? I genuinely ask because I like the idea of a tractor, even for my breeding buck and doe on the weekends.
Hey guys, I like this video, even when he was going reel fast. One question, after the rabbits been in one spot for a while, do you move them to a another. And if you did, that would be a good fertilization spot, may GOD bless and have a great day.
We move the tractors to a new spot every day. We just move them one space over. The goal is to not move them back to the same spot for at least 3 months. This greatly reduces the chances of parasites and disease, at least in our opinion.
Coming back in time to see how you do your rabbit tractor, I am using scrap material I have around the homestead because now in 2021 wood is expensive. So no little house or bed for them then right?
We just bought our first meat rabbits but I’m wondering if your rabbits get fleas being on the ground in the tractors. Also, do they stay in the tractors all the time?
@??? Do you have a video on the frame build of the rabbit tractor? Cutting plans for the lumber? Old woman homesteader and an older city boy trying to learn how to do homestead carpentry work. Anything on the frame build would help
Hi! Love your stuff, thanks for the videos! Question: can I just put a pregnant doe out in a tractor with a nesting box for the length of the grow out? Could that serve as moms house. Just her tractor, let her have babies, remove babies to butcher rinse, repeat? Or would she not naturally wean them on her own? Again thanks for your videos, you guys just rock!
We're going to start on our own rabbit tractor this weekend, following your design. I see that you have a bit if your roof overhanging the sides. What benefit would this have? Becoming a fan of your channel!
Rabbits need shade. Overheating is a good way to kill a rabbit. I've done that, just leaving a rabbit out in a dog cage for 2 hours in the summer while I did yard work on the other side of the house. Came back to a brain dead rabbit (head tilt). We learn as we go.
Hello, happy and blessed 2019. We wish to congratulate you for your great channel and your homestead. Here in our farm Las Golondrinas Margaritas Camalu we are following your steps in the breeding of rabbits and after watching your video of the grazing tractors, we have been left with some doubts. Is the wood used for the structure of the tractors 2 "x 2" or 1 "x 2"? Are they screwed or nailed? Can each tractor hold only 8 rabbits? How long do they live on the tractor? When you take them out of the tractor is to sacrifice them? Do you cure and treat the rabits skins and use them to make something, like hats? Any recommendations for us beginners? Thank you very much. We are at your service at Las Golondrinas Margaritas Camalu in San Jeronimo de Aldama, Chihuahua, Mexico.
We just built a tractor based on your design - it is great!! Thank you so much! I'm sure you've answered this before but I can't find it... how much acreage do y'all have? Thanks so much for your videos, they are inspiring! Love your rabbit cookbook!
Is that a special fence stapler or is the regular 1/4" crown working or is it 1/2" crown? In the video it looked like a regular 1/4" crown. Also are you using standard staples or did you find some aluminum or galvanized staples?
I have a stupid question. Do your rabbits sleep in these tractors full time? If so, how do they stay dry should the ground get wet? I want to make some tractors for my growouts but havent found a design I like yet.
+carolinmichigan That's not a stupid question at all. Yes, they do sleep in them. They don't mind the rain at all and don't mind getting wet. Each of the tractors has a covered area that they can retreat under if they are tired of the rain. The only concern would be standing water. They can't be in a puddle or low area that would have them living in inches of standing water.
Thank you for these videos! I appreciate them so much! I will be making my own chicken tractors. But can you tell me where you purchase your big wire cages where you keep your breeding rabbits? I need some od those!
Hi there! Thanks for the great video! So I have two questions: 1) are the rabbits really safe from predators like foxes, raccoons, rats, coyotes in these? 2) we live in Wisconsin and I’m really worried the rabbits would get too cold in the winter in these outside in December-February. Would you time breeding to not be growing litters out in the coldest weather?
We live in WI too - I keep our rabbits in a shed during the winter. I don't think the tractor would work in the snow, but I haven't tried it. My doe had a litter in March and they died from the cold, even in the shed :(
They are not for winter use. The only rabbit's they keep in them are in the process of being fed out for slaughter and that is finished up in the fall. The whole point of it is to take advantage of the green feed that the rabbit's can get as they are moved across the yard, reducing feed cost's.
Brad Metcalf Hello, not all starts r equal n weather conditions, these tractors r used year round n some states, if u noticed, this video was made two years ago this month, it’s February, Kevin was wearing a t-shirt, and there’s plenty of green grass, (no, this might not be a good idea for Amy who lives n Wisconsin) Sarah and Kevin live n Missouri. I just watched their series on “raising rabbits for meat”, u may or may not have seen it, but they did not say they stopped anything n the fall, Sarah says they breed around every 6 weeks, and seeing how we don’t get as much snow n the southern states as the north, they show they continue to have litters n the tractors, n winter, closing one section off to provide protection. If u haven’t seen their series, u ought to, their very informative. Have a wonderful day
Actually, it says it was published in July 2017. I live near them, and trust me, there's no green grass and t-shirt wearing in February. It's very cold and dead outside.
Hey Thanks for the video! This might be covered in one of your upcoming videos, however I wanted to ask about how many rabbit would raise in one of the tractors? Also at some point can you show what goes in them ( water source, any kind of feed system other than the grass if applicable, bedding? ect...)
We only put one litter at a time in each tractor. That is usually between 6-10 rabbits. As far as food and water, that will be covered in an upcoming video. We use just regular rabbit feeders that hang on the cage and water bottles. Nothing fancy round here!
Wheels would make it a raised cage. They couldn't reach the grass if the wheels were high enough to help move it across anything but putting green flat ground, and the wire used has too big holes for a cage bottom -- it would hurt their feet if it weren't flat on the ground.
I have a chicken tractor I built ver similar. When I had chickens in it I had chicken wire on the bottom. I noticed when I would pull them the grass would lay down under the tractor. I took it off for now. Do you think if I put the larger wire that would allow the grass to come thru better? I’m worried about them digging but want them to utilize the fresh grass.
Other than the wire on the bottom, will a chicken tractor work for rabbits? Will they use the ramp up to the second floor and would you put nesting boxes up there? Thanks, subscribed.
Ive constructed something similar for my rabbits but after placing my doe in just to see how it goes til i am ready to put it into use sort of a test run. She was in the tractor less then an hour an dug a hole she didnt get out but left about a 6" hole in the ground i had to fill. I used wood slats longways on the bottom to give them something to stand on when moving the tractor but she dug right between them. Should i add more slats or got and install the 2*3" wire i bought along the bottom to prevent them from trying to dig out?
Are the frames glued and nailed together or screwed together? I made a grow out pen for my chicks that was similar to this but I only have 1 drill so I was constantly changing bits to predrill holes and then do the screws... it was very tedious :)
I want to raise rabbits but im worried if i put a tractor on the ground for them if rats will harm them, will rats get near them? And raising off ground isnt much of an option since i am worried about weather and wind
Hello Living Traditions Homestead. Kevin and Sarah! Is this still your favorite tractors for your rabbits? I know this is an older post and I hope you see my question. Thanks in advance!

Wonderful. We used to attach the wire to the inside of each side of the cage prior to assembling the sides. This prevented the rabbits from chewing the wood.
We copied your tractor but added 3/4 pvc pipe split in half length wise and screwed to the bottom to make it easier move around.
Good upgrade
Thats a good idea
Doin it
great idea.

These hutches are very pretty! I love the way the old metal looks :)
Wow. Kevin works really fast!
he definitely gets stuff done.
That design should hold up for a long time. Great video!
The Neals' Homestead My rabbits try to eat the wood on my cages. Any suggestions for that?
my rabbits do the same thing. I just deal with it.@@angiemcnewthompson1590
Nice looking tractors!! It sure beats emptying out rabbit poo!!
Thanks for sharing. I hope your daughter is recovering well, your family is in my prayers.
nice video kevin thanks, i will copy it,
Kevin & Sarah, thanks for this video as it will be very helpful on the new homestead. Kevin, forgot that you once had a beard! Blessings to you both on everything!

how are you folks doing in 2022? I enjoy your videos. I am currently raising my own worms for castings and worm tea. I hope to start selling night crawlers next year.
worm tea? what's that?
@@PineRidgeHomesteadyou mix the worm castings with water and that makes your tea to pour over your plants.
We just found you guys, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for the instructions!
Followed your plan for our first attempt. 😀
2021 thanks so much kevin
Thanks for the video
I love the tractors! Thanks for sharing. What is the max amount of rabbits you put in each tractor?
Thank you for this video it is similar to my chicken tractors thank you for another informative video
Will they pull the bent grass up through the bottom fence and eat it?
Our rabbit tractor had chicken wire on the bottom to keep them from digging out. Our first Buck "Digger" did just that.
you'll always have a trouble maker!
I love you two!💓💓💓
Do you ever place your breeders in the rabbit tractors for a time to just allow them to be...you know, rabbits? Enjoying the videos immensely.
Nice
Masha'Allah very nice God bless you and yours family and friends
nice
Great video you guy, awesome way to raise rabbits! Your frames are very well done brother Im impressed!
Thanks! I probably go a little overboard with supports and stuff, but I really don't want to have to rebuild them for several years.
Thank You for the tutorial.
Very nice Kevin. Your rabbits should be proud to be in those lol.
They act happy to be in them...at least until the last day!
Do you have the supply list for this tractor? Love your videos!! I’m trying to get everything together before I start and learn all I can until I have everything so thank you so much for your videos and knowledge you are sharing
Ya, some of us would even be willing to pay for the supply list and cut list!
Screws: #8-2 1/2” for the braces. #8-3 1/2” for the box. Pre-drill the holes to keep from splitting the wood.

hahaha good luck to you too :) (try to inform her that meat in store will sky rise when we now will go in to a Grand solar minimum and all the crop losses will effect animal feed...)
Tell your husband to stop being a soyboy
If you cross cut regular 2 x 4's on your table saw, it is much cheaper then buying 2 x 2's. Using the additional 2 feet for braces
Not cheaper if you don't have a table saw!
A cheap tablesaw is a good investment, and they are much cheaper this way.

Do your rabbits ever get tics on them being on the ground like that?
If you were to paint the tops white wouldn't that reflect the sun off and help to keep the rabbits cooler in the summer months?

No, they aren't old enough to breed by the time they butcher them.
excellent
Thanks for all the little details that you include. I'm a newbie for construction. What ails or screws did you use on the 2x2's
How many grow out rabbits per tractor? Thanks for the videos!
Very good video..thanks
How do you keep the ticks and fleas off of your rabbits in the tractors?
Fertalizes your yard too
I'm putting together a hutch and getting my first rabbits. I thought the 1x2 inch would be too big. Couldn't a weasel get through or a raccoon swiping his arm the cage?

Will the meat guy buy pasture raised rabbit or do they prefer grain fed? Thank you
We just bought our first meat rabbits but I’m wondering if your rabbits get fleas being on the ground in the tractors. Also, do they stay in the tractors all the time?
I was also wondering about parasites, but since this is for the young rabbits, maybe it doesn't matter
Are the young bucks and does housed separately, or is 12 weeks still young enough to keep them together?
Thanks! How many rabbits can you keep in one of these?
Hey! Love your videos we watch a lot. We live near STL! We are in the process of building tractors. Do you leave the rabbits in them 24/7?
How many rabbits can you keep in one of these? Is there a rule of thump for how many square feet each rabbit needs?
Can you use wheelers to make it move easier?
Wheels would cause more problems than they solve.
@??? Do you have a video on the frame build of the rabbit tractor? Cutting plans for the lumber? Old woman homesteader and an older city boy trying to learn how to do homestead carpentry work. Anything on the frame build would help

how are you fastening the wood?
What do you do to keep pests such as ticks and fleas away from your rabbits?
Do you leave your rabbit's in the rabbit Tractor overnight or do you put them back in there cages in the barn.
Our rabbit tractor, following Kevin and Sarah's design was an absolute success!
We are at your service at Las Golondrinas Margaritas Camalu in
San Jeronimo de Aldama, Chihuahua, Mexico.
That looks like florida
We just built a tractor based on your design - it is great!! Thank you so much! I'm sure you've answered this before but I can't find it... how much acreage do y'all have? Thanks so much for your videos, they are inspiring! Love your rabbit cookbook!
What brand and model number of water bottles do you use for your new rabbit tractors?
Is that a special fence stapler or is the regular 1/4" crown working or is it 1/2" crown? In the video it looked like a regular 1/4" crown. Also are you using standard staples or did you find some aluminum or galvanized staples?
Love your videos!
We are so happy that you do! Thanks!

Imsee you are using air gun to fasten the mesh to the wood, I am assuming that you are using staples, what size are you using?
Hi there! Thanks for the great video! So I have two questions:
1) are the rabbits really safe from predators like foxes, raccoons, rats, coyotes in these?
You guys also build your breeder cages right? What’s your process for that?
Hey Thanks for the video! This might be covered in one of your upcoming videos, however I wanted to ask about how many rabbit would raise in one of the tractors? Also at some point can you show what goes in them ( water source, any kind of feed system other than the grass if applicable, bedding? ect...)
We only put one litter at a time in each tractor. That is usually between 6-10 rabbits. As far as food and water, that will be covered in an upcoming video. We use just regular rabbit feeders that hang on the cage and water bottles. Nothing fancy round here!
What did he use to cut the metal?
How would we add wheels? Can you do a video for that part as a succession to this vid? thx
How do you fasten your corner bracing?
Ive constructed something similar for my rabbits but after placing my doe in just to see how it goes til i am ready to put it into use sort of a test run. She was in the tractor less then an hour an dug a hole she didnt get out but left about a 6" hole in the ground i had to fill. I used wood slats longways on the bottom to give them something to stand on when moving the tractor but she dug right between them. Should i add more slats or got and install the 2*3" wire i bought along the bottom to prevent them from trying to dig out?
I see you put the wire on the outside. I'm trying to avoid this as rabbits eat EVERYTHING! How have you faired with this?
The rabbits i have have not chewed my wire
@@giansotolongo8037 I think he ment they would chew on the wood since the wire is on the outside
Do you use the 1"x2" hardware cloth for your breeder cages too?
Also It seemed to be regular untreated wood . Is that just choice or will pressure treated harm the rabbits?
The rabbits will chew on the wood.
Too many chemicals if they're chewing on it
Can the tractors be placed in full sun in the padture?? Have concerns they might get too hot. Thank you!
They have a complete series on raising rabbits, and no keep in shade as much as possible.

Do you have termites? Is treated wood bad for rabbits if they chew on it?
Yep. Don't let rabbits have access to anything you dont want them to eat. They eat everything.
If you are moving daily .. you shouldn’t worry about termites. They can’t take hold on one day
What size staple do ya like to use on the wire?
I use 18 gauge 5/8" length.
thank you.Im going to get one built and start my bunny factory.thanks again.S.D.
Hello Living Traditions Homestead. Kevin and Sarah! Is this still your favorite tractors for your rabbits? I know this is an older post and I hope you see my question. Thanks in advance!
Where did you get the mesh fence
