I loved how measured their romantic story was, and how it ironically heightened the tragedy of her passing. We do get a sense of that shared history and I guess it's up to the audience to see their autumn moments and imagine what their spring and summer was like. It reminded me of Bong Joon Ho's choice to distance himself from the ending of Parasite (the son and father reunifying); the biggest moments of absolute emotional wreckage are often more potent when internal and restrained. Seeing Dodin as that shadow of a man, having his friends drawing closer to him; Hearing the resonance of foosteps on wood at her funeral; Seeing her casket go through that kitchen bathed in warmth. It was all so understated and unadorned, and I could not have bawled more
Another film critic speculated that "Anatomy of a Fall’ didn't get picked because of the explosive political speech Justine Triet made against the French government in Cannes. France submitted this film instead as a retaliation against her.

Can't wait to see this one - love narrative filmmaking coupled with food. Tampopo, Babette's Feast, the whole category.
Definitely want to see the film after listening to your reviews.
