When the debate is about studio audience, "Laughter track" or having none which most modern sitcoms do, this episode is proof of the positives of having a studio audience to laugh at the jokes. The audience response to the dolls is fantastic and adds to the brilliance of the dolls joke. This is one of my personal favourite episodes of only fools and horses along with the next one chain gang.
Shows with laugh tracks usually leave gaps to allow for the laughter. Then it just feels weird without it because of the extra long silences. There was a video that demonstrated this with The Big Bang Theory but can't remember what it was called.
You're really into the golden era of this show now. It was great beforehand but when they started going to 45 minutes to feature length episodes is when it became something spectacular.
I remember in the very early 90’s. I would of been 5-6 years old, and my mates dad had one of these exact dolls. We didn’t know what it was and we used to play around with it. And one day his dad caught us and went mad but we didn’t understand. It was only about 5 years later that I saw only fools and horses and pointed it out to my parents that Kevin had one of these and I used to okay with it all the time 😆😆
This is a funny episode, they actually had to modify the faces of blow up dolls so the episode could be aired, this is whats great about OFAH episodes, when you watch them for the first time you have no clue what the plot twist will be, if any.
You should watch some episodes of One Foot In The Grave! The humour is quite similar and some of the storylines are hilarious! Also I've only just discovered your channel so i'm not sure if you've already reacted to it, but the Only Fools and Horses episode "Friday the 14th" is one of my favourites, it's got so many funny moments in it!
