I’m so glad to have seen this because I work at a shelter and have fostered cats, who are traumatized, and take a while to finally have their perfect day. We adopted a 12 1/2 year old female Pit Bull from the local shelter because no one wanted her. She turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever had. Just lost her after 2 1/2 years with us, and I couldn't believe how attached I was to that dog in such a short time. Such a loyal, hard-working companion.
My friend used to have a sanctuary mainly for mill dogs. The horror they live in! When one would come in, they had to be bathed and shaved down right away to check for skin lesions and other problems. She had vet students come in to help her with that every Saturday. Most of the time you can talk the mill owners into releasing dogs that are no longer producing. But, sometimes you have to go to the auctions to save them. I always call them mill slaves. Blessings!
