    Thanks for this! I'll be honest, I've been shooting for decades, and going to mirrorless is the biggest transition for me-even bigger than when I went from film to DSLR. The autofocus system seems TOTALLY different than anything I've done before! Granted, for me (a full-time youth sports photographer), many of the differences may be helpful, but I'm going to have to get used to them, and also I have to study the manual and understand all of the various settings and modes

    I have to do a video shoot, which requires video of multiple parts of a manufacturing company. The video MUST be shot continuous (no cuts) and the camera will go to several different parts of the facility, each with different lighting conditions. If I do the custom white balance at the start of my shot, will the colors still be accurate if I go from area to area in the facility? Or do I have to re-do the custom white balance as I go to each area? I ask because I can not stop/start the recording per my clients request. For this scenario is custom white balance preferred, or should I do AWB?

    • @DanielWhiteWithCanon
      @DanielWhiteWithCanon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well AWB is good for changing situations but it might be worth sticking with one white balance and changing it in post assuming you are shooting in Log.

    I have a question: The "multi fuction controller" is not working in my R6, Why is this? Do I need to have a "RF" lens on the camera (meaning it doesn't work with "EF" lenses) ?

    I can't find the menu shown at 1:23 in my 5D ...
    In my 5D the AF3 menu is what you see in your video at 6:24.

The focus does not focus properly on the R6 without on RF lens as explained by a Canon tech when my R6 was sent for focus service last month.

    • @DanielWhiteWithCanon
      @DanielWhiteWithCanon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Susanne that is a very good question. I eluded to it in the video but the reason is that the RF 50mm 1.8 doesn’t have a MF ring. It only has a control ring. So in order to switch it to manual focus they give you this option. It is only available and visible when a lens without a focus ring is attached. Thanks for commenting I hope this cleared up the issue :D

    I got the feeling that my r6 has a slight front Fokus if I shoot with the eye af... It doesn't matter which lens iam using. How can this happen on an dslm without separate af chip?? Or do I shoot with the wrong case I.e my son I take case 4 with more sensitive.

    • @DanielWhiteWithCanon
      @DanielWhiteWithCanon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marc it is hard to say what is going on for sure but I would first shoot in servo, With the back button and then with eye AF on and off. Also maybe shoot with the auto setting for the AF servo option. Aswell if you are using a Stm motor lens they can have trouble keeping up with the subject. I found this to be the case 50% of the time while using the RF 50mm 1.8.

    • @NameNaameNameeNaamee
      @NameNaameNameeNaamee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marc, if it really is front focussing, you can of course go to a Canon dealer and let it be fixed under warranty. This CAN happen, it's unusual and the first time I hear it about a Canon R5/R6, but nothing is impossible.

      @@DJBastor Hi Marc, I saw that when I checked directly after posting and immediately altered my post. I guess it was cashed in your TH-cam app, so you read it anyways. Strange that they took that out. That said, it might be, that it's just not needed with a mirror less camera. I lack the technical understanding to comment on that. What lenses do you use? If they are third party lenses, that would explain it. Sigma and Tamron lenses are reverse engineered, that's why they are notorious for front and back focussing.

    • @NameNaameNameeNaamee
      @NameNaameNameeNaamee 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just checked, indeed, a mirrorless camera doesn't need any calibration, since the focus plane and imaging sensor are one and the same. So if it's front focussing, it has to be the lens(es), or the camera has a defect. To be sure, I would just check in with a Canon service center.

    • @NameNaameNameeNaamee
      @NameNaameNameeNaamee 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh there is a HUGE difference. This feature only relates to using the view finder and then moving/setting the focus point via the touchscreen (while having your eye at the VF). If it's set to "absolute", the the focus point will jump to exactly the focus area you touch on the screen (if you have set it to "left" or "right", it will consider that selected area to be representative to the frame and adapt the position from there). If it's set to relative, then touching the screen will do nothing until you swipe. The focus point will then be moved according to the directions you swipe in. Think of "absolute" to be a feature that SETS a focus point and "relative" to be a feature to MOVE the focus point.
