I drove in Germany 5 Scorpios in sequence from 1986 to 93 as a Ford employe. For travelling the best Ford car ever build up to this times. Fun Fact. The value for money was for the Scorpio a lot better then for the smaller Sierra. The options you got for the Scorpio GL as standard, like twin headlights and other things was on the Sierra only available at the top version Ghia. Togehter with the new 4G automatic with pass through clutch and overdrive the price difference was about only 1000 Deutsche Mark for quite a different car. The Scorpio was the first and only car an which I entered the back seats when my wife was driving. What by the way most owners not realized. I drove a few of the last generation Mondeos for business in my last job in 2013-2017 and the Mondeo was bigger in space inside and outside as the Scorpio. But anaway the Scorpio was a benchmark for his time.

I just love this video. I don’t care that it, and the cars it depicts, and the people, have aged. I would swap the Britain of 1988 with that of 2018 in a heartbeat if I could.

my dad had one when I was a kid it was fun af to sit in when my dad drove. And I'm pretty sure this was the car that made my dad an amazing driver. Only my dad drove a coupe... and it was rwd and it did not have a Granada in its name because our was an eurpean version not a british version. And he also had the fastest and the most reliable package for scorpio. He sold it in 2003 I think and he bought audi 200 turbo (which is a beast of its own) but after all these years my dad says that the scorpio was the best car he ever owned

Really wanted my dad to buy a 2.9 Ghia when I was about 14 but he never bought anything more than a 2 litre. I tried to convince him that the 2.4 V6 Ghia would be a happy medium but he wouldn't have any of it! Gutted as my uncle always had top of the range 3 litre cars......

I've got a late '87 2.9 V6 Granada Scorpio, so virtually the same as Boff's here, minus the leather seats, 15" wheels and cruise.
It's a bit of a barge but is quite a laugh.
The Scorpio was never the last word in handling! I think the E28/E34 5 Series would have had that claim !

And the Scorpio was still nothing compared to an Australian Falcon of the time (the later unleaded XF). While it didn't pull up as well due to a lack of ABS, it returned better economy out of a 4.1 litre EFI inline six, didn't handle as well (they were a bit of a barge even when new) but would last forever and a day (most of the ones that haven't been written off are still going, either as paddock bashers or on the road).

That said, cars DO last better in Aus than the UK (for example) because they don't rust anywhere near as badly.

Jackie was emploted by Ford, so he didn't say anything about bad sides of this car, which had a lot of, not least that it was worse rust bucket designed (just a glimpse of the underside would make it obvious)! Didn't last long for any buyer! Including me, but I got mine with a 95% rebate! Still cost more to keep running than the purchase price, by far!

Its amazing how cars have come on in the 30 or so years since this car was released. A 2016 mazda3 is wider and taller with a wider track, only 2 inches shorter in the wheelbase and 4 inches shorter in length.

Hmm, Jackie Stewart there talking about safety on the road, and yet his lane discipline was horrendous. Maybe the traffic police he visits should have reminded him that taking racing lines on public roads is not really a good idea. His beloved ABS would be of little help to him in a head on collision. Especially if a HGV happened to be coming the other way. Which he wouldn't have seen coming as he could barely see over the wheel. Should have given him a Fiesta instead. With a booster cushion on the driver's seat.

@@Shiggiesmalls02 There's a great deal of difference between driving on a track and driving on a public road. I don't need to be a racing driver to understand how to position a car safely on the road. Mr Stewart's lane discipline is appalling, and if you think this type of driving is acceptable, then you should never ever be given a licence to drive.
