    I hadn't thought about using the break to mount. Helped me a lot with my new 29. Thanks for the vid!

    When I was learning to ride my 32 I used the break to start and often times still do this.

    I have gotten quite accustomed to freemounting my 29 inch muni, and i don't have a break (yet). Here are my tips:
    1. If you can mount on a down hill it can be way easier (assuming you mount from your back foot onto your front foot). The hill will add resistance so that the pedal doesnt spin back towards you and you can put more of your body weight into it and do the motion slower.
    2. When stepping up try not to put any weight onto the back foot (the one that remains static in the process). Think of it as a 1 legged hop instead of as stepping up stairs. The more weight you put on the static foot the more the unicycle will move and the more likely you will miss the other pedal and have a bad time.
    Bigger unicycle wheeles are certainly far more unforgiving than the smaller sizes, but if you practice and force yourself to get better it will eventually happen. Hopefully my tips help someone out.

    Thank you, searched for ages for a free mount technique for a 29" Muni using the brake. Checked out your video last night, did my first free mount on a 29" this morning. I am quite short and seat set high, managed after approx an hours practise. Great video and thanks again

      you can use the foot backpressure and avoid the brake entirely

    Nice video very helpful. I am struggling with my 36 er and will try this concept!

    I've always been hit and miss free mounting my 29" unis. Find it easy setting off against a curb stone, but never thought of using the brake so will defo be trying this. Thanks for the video.

    Just ordered at 29 hatchet! I have a 28.5 no break. This helps!

    • @millerman692
      @millerman692 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And do you like hatchet? You use the brake to free mount?

  • @ballistolballs
    @ballistolballs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks you so much! I'm looking to buy a 27.5 and wasn't sure if I wanted to spent the extra money on the version with brake. After your video I will. I still can't "free mount" but having that wheel locked in looks way less scary to practice. I'm going to buy a off road uni but as you do not ride much off road. My question is do you use the shorter crank holes much or can i save my money on those and just go with stock 150's? Thanks again.

      Daisy Chase I was in Brisbane, it was just the garden of our apartment complex that nobody really used. It is quite beautiful, probably didn’t appreciate it enough at the time.

    What is psi?

    • @isstuff
      @isstuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      millerman692 PSI is the abbreviation for pounds per square inch, a measure of air pressure. In metric, it is kpa for kilopascal. Just don’t have your tire pumped up too hard.

    • @millerman692
      @millerman692 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isstuff Thanks but I mean what is psi in your tire while free mounting?

    • @isstuff
      @isstuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      millerman692 20-35 psi. It has a bit of a squish to it but not soft. I tried it hard the other day and found it way too twitchy.

    Hi fellow Aussie, Thanks for the video, while I have no brake at this time I have wondered about using to help mount. How do you find the KH muni? I like many of the features of the KH, but do you have any issues with the external disk? Does it ever hit you or become damaged? I would also like to try the fusion 1 saddles some time, due ongoing pain from other saddles, how do you find it?

    • @isstuff
      @isstuff  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bruce Cunningham I don’t really do muni so I am not stress testing it, I have had only good experiences with the disk break. It’s smooth progressive stopping power is its strength, when going down hill I like to apply it just enough to go a little slower than I want to go, then apply leg power to go the speed I want. No need to apply back pressure to the wheel. As a comfortable ride I stand by it. I could have a smooth tire but I don’t mind the rolling resistance of the knobby one. And I am a fan of the fatness of the tire smoothing out the ride. I find the saddle really comfortable.

    Possibly without a brake you can just grab and arrest the tire.

    • @bermchasin
      @bermchasin 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      you can just use your back foot pedal pressure. Look up some 36r freemounts with no brake. or giraffe freemounts
