Great stuff mate. I have heard up in that area it sort goes port jackson or ray then gilla then gummy only fished up there 3 times now and lost a good gummy like yours at the back of the boat trying to land it. Great run down on how to pick the winds for where to fish really great idea to explain it in the video also.

Honestly mate you couldn’t be more wrong! (That’s not a jab at you - let me explain 😂). I’d catch 80% gummies in this area. Offshore rig is critical so you keep your bait slightly suspended off the bottom away from the junk bottom dwellers (rays, port jacks, banjos etc). Peak winter the gillers do arrive, but opt for less oily baits and go for things like squid and occy and you avoid them a lot more.

@@brodyconnellyfishing only what I have heard I haven’t fished up there much and the time I did fish up there I was using the normal bay running sinker. I stick to the north arm and top end for most of the fishing only come up there if I am with a mate now. Off shore rigs I’ll have to remember to pack when he says we are going up there next time 🤣. I did have a great time on the yakkas there in March I think it was and the couta were great to catch good fight up there

@@UnforgivenFishing yeah totally understand mate! If you like a gummy fish I’d highly recommend spending more time down there. You’ll have far greater success in general. The tides are her ally slower, less weight needed so I just use 6-10kg rods and rarely any weed so it’s far more enjoyable than fishing the top end for them in my opinion. I’ve also pulled 2 x 23kg models and multiple 15kg + fish from there. It’s a highly undervalued area of the bay

@@brodyconnellyfishing I agree as you would know with the haines and low back ends I don't come up there with it often just for the swell part. I will probably come up there more in a mates bigger boat to fish it more over the next couple of seasons. Top end home for me grew up there and know it well now and agree its hit and miss with sizes of the gummys but still I love the challenges it gives to get them after the 20+ last year the fire is burning harder then ever to try and get another down here. But snapper season need to get a few of those soon too haha winter was easier then now to get a red now its a fight to find a clear spot with the amount of boats out there chasing them

@@UnforgivenFishing once you get over middle bank there’s bugger all swell so don’t let the freeboard of your boat stop ya! But fishing where your confident (top end for you) is also a good thing.
Yeah I did alright on Friday before the granny and will aim to get out next week during the week one day I think. This rain storm could fire their breeding patterns up I reckon!
