    Out of all the Icons of the Realms sets, which ones would you say are your favorite? I like the aesthetic of Avernus, even if being pointy makes them fragile.

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Speaking only as Grady, I have to say that from a purely aesthetic perspective the newer sets just keep looking better and better. I have personal attachments to the Magic setting and Avernus though, so my personal fave sets are Ravnica and Avernus. Also as a fan of Greek mythology, I'm beside myself imagining what the Theros set is going to look like and it's probably going be my undisputed top set when it comes out. -Grady

      Maybe it's because I'm playing Storm King's Thunder, but, man, does the Monster Menagerie 3 set have some fun and impressive minis in it! I'm partial to the huge minis, and that set hit the mark. -Theo

    Little note, Chult isn't an island anymore. Chult broke off from the mainland during the spellplague, and reunited during the sundering. It's currently a peninsula

    Btw, easy mod to do with the 17 Aldani - just use a scalpel to separate the claws at the tip, then you can bend the trident so they are actually holding it inside the claw! Looks much better.

    Oh boy! Dragonbait! I remember playing one of the first D&D video game "Curse of the Azure Bonds" where you met Dragonbait and his companion Alias. I still have my original copies of the Finder's Trilogy novels where he first appeared. They are still my favorite D&D novels to this day. And OMG! Minsc & Boo!!! "Butt-kicking for Goodness!" They were the real stars of the whole Baldur's Gate video game series. I hope the also make minis for Dragonbait's companions in the near future: Alias and Olive Rustkettle, and maybe Giogi Wyvernspur. And Minsc need his friends too! Lets have minis of Imoen, Viconia, Edwin, Jan Jansen, Yoshimo, etc... Ir would be nice to have a special set for all these great characters.

    • @nerdicwarrior
      @nerdicwarrior 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Azure Bonds is the first Forgotten Realms novel I read.
      What I don't understand is why they brought Dragonbait into 5e and not Alias.

    • @Rangersly
      @Rangersly 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nerdicwarrior Right? Exactly what I thought! Plus, it would have make more sense producing an Alias miniature first because the figure would be more generic and could be used by players for any female swordsman, fighter, barbarian, paladin, or even a rogue!

  • @Baalslegion07

    I'm a bit upset that they chose to exclude the Tombguardians and Tombdwarves. I mean, those are very specific to this module and should have been included. But I still got everything from this set and ordered the others from a friend who owns a 3d printer, but this really seems like an extreme oversight. Also, no Withers? Really? No Sewn Sisters? I think they should revisit this like Curse of Strahd and make a few "denizens of chult" boxes with all the missed NPCs like one for the merchant princes, one for the villains, one for special monsters and maybe a last one for guides.

    Just a bit of a botanical correction - the Mantrap is more based on a relatively obscure carnivorous plant, the Butterwort (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinguicula). Their leaves have sticky nodules and they attract insects by scent, and roll up the leaves slowly to digest prey. But we do have a more Venus Flytrap like mini in Savage Encounters.

    Huh, I could have sword you were already doing reviews when this set came out, but I guess not! Btw, if you checked Kor's interview with Wizkids on Minisgallery, they said they will re-print every Icons set save Ravnica this year. :)
    I love this set, has tons of cool and interesting monsters and useful NPC models too. The Juggernaut Golem was something I wanted for ages. One odd thing was how the adventure is full of Grungs yet we got none - took until MM3 to get them. The Zorbo and Su-Monster however were some really obscure and silly monsters I never expected to see again, as was the Kamadan. Or the Aldani, aka Crabmen and Firenewts!
    Acererak is easily the best Lich mini IMHO, love his many layers of flowing capes. Would be cool if they made a Sphere of Annihilation for him too, someday.
    The Draegloth is also the best of the 3 we have, and while we have tons of Mariliths now, I like this more yellow-skinned design. And we had to literally wait decades for Dao to finally get prepainted minis - all the other genies got them, just not them. Though the thing that made me the happiest in this set were Modrons. For decades people considered them a bad joke, but I loved their concept, especially thanks to Planescape Torment and Nordom, a playeable NPC (who is kinda like Data on Star Trek). 5E brought them back and now we are close to having minis for almost all of them.

    • @TheGallantGoblin

      Hi BB! We started doing videos with MM3 though we didn’t start getting full cases until Dragon Heist. We did watch the interview and are sorry we missed it live (thought it was Friday). We are putting together a video highlighting the major announcements from it. -Grady

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the older Icons of the Realms sets, the number 45 (and sometimes higher) is reserved for companion products that are considered part of the set but not actually sold with it. In this case, the Tomb and Traps set that released with Tomb of Annihilations is number 45. Starting with I think Volo’s and Mordenkainen’s Foes, they stopped doing that and actually give the correct total numbering for the boosters.
      Tomb and Traps is this set: th-cam.com/video/BBOhtWfjh4o/w-d-xo.html

    • @TheGallantGoblin
      @TheGallantGoblin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In most of the older sets, they reserve the highest numbers (usually #45) for the case incentive, which was a separate product you could only buy if you bought a full case of 32 booster boxes. For Tomb of Annihilation, the case incentive was the Tomb and Traps premium set, which we review separately at th-cam.com/video/BBOhtWfjh4o/w-d-xo.html since it is a different product. Our captions show what WizKids writes on the base, and I guess the idea is to make you feel like your collection isn’t complete without the incentive, but there’s definitely no #45 figure that you could pull out of a booster box. Note that WizKids has changed the practice somewhat-they’ve rebranded the case incentive as a premium figure or premium set and you can now buy it on its own without buying a single booster box. The products are still linked though in the sense that they’re released at the same time and in the latest Theros set for example, it looks like Polukranos the Hydra is still going to be #45 in the set. In cases where it’s a premium set of multiple things, like the Elder Brain that came out with Volo’s and Mordenkainen’s Foes, they don’t assign the set a number at all and the minis in the boosters are properly labeled x/44. Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you still have questions after all that! -Grady
