MASSED PIPE BANDS RETURN TO THE CENOTAPH ANZAC DAY 2023

- A short march down George St gives us another brief experience of the sight and sound of those Pipes and Drums seen earlier in the Anzac March . This 2023 version is short but i did record the longer 2012 version. The sound attracted a large crowd who followed them into Martin Place. I hope others captured the ceremony at the Cenotaph, laying of wreaths . The original March route from the 50s to recent times went past the Cenotaph in Martin Place so all participants could acknowledge the fallen , usually " eyes right" ...Now that route is not possible due to the trams and Martin Place being redeveloped. It is usual for service associations , Government officials , Consular reps to lay wreaths prior to the March and later . Like the Scottish descendants of veterans. Anzac Day is always April 25 . The history of this day is mentioned above and fully covered in the web pages of the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. All fallen persons who served are recorded at the War Memorial.
Takes me back to the mid-80's when I was a piper in the Pipes and Drums of the REME in the UK. You can't stir emotion with anything like you can the pipes and drums. Awesome vid!
Thanks , considering some bands were not in this parade & the short route it was a stirring sight & sound .I expected the mic circuit to be blown out as the sound pressure was felt in your body !! The sound travels well in the City streets & attracts a crowd.
Flowers of the Forest ?
@@MadProfessor1962 Scotland the Brave. Flowers of the Forest is only played at funerals.
Flowers of the Forest is played when the massed pipe bands have made their way to the Martin Place Cenotaph and the wreaths are being laid. Stirring stuff and I dare you not to shed a tear! Great video!
You did a wonderful job filming this! Certainly stirs up emotions listening to the massed pipes and drums! Bless them all!
Thanks for your generous comment . Recording this requires , like all event videos , a lot of luck as to the weather , crowd involvement & position .
Das ist wenigstens stolz auf die Heimat
Being a Scotsman I love to see other countries reacting to our music and culture,it makes me beam with pride,❤️🏴
Thanks for your kind comment Sir! ANZAC day in Sydney is such an occasion. Great to see and hear the massed pipes and drums, certainly stirs the soul. The Scots College boys have frequently played at the Edinburgh Tattoo. Those boys are brilliant. Kind regards.
I absolutely love it mate....Its freaking awesome.
I agree with you. I am Irish and feel the same. And it is wonderful to both of us the meanings behind the songs. Slainche 😊😘❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🌹🌹👻
I am proud to be Scottish and hearing the mass pipes and drums gives me goosebumps when I hear them and fills my heart with pride, God bless Scotland
I'm not scottish but this amazing sound gives me goosebumps too..❤❤
I’m Scottish and I get goose flesh every time I see and hear the Pipes and Drums. ❤❤❤❤❤
Always astonishing to see and hear. As if they'd marched directly out of centuries past. Thank you for recording and for posting!
Got to love bagpipes
Bloody awesome! Bring's a tear to my eye!
Appreciate what you did for us in two world wars
im 85 my mother was born in scotland and to this day i get tears in my eyes when i hear the bag pipes and watch them march im proud i guess
The echo is amazing!
I should do binaural sound and stereo , next time. Stirring sound .
Listening with my ..❤️. Blessings to these wonderful pipers and bands.
Strong tradition & heritage make for strong communities! From North Wales to you in New South Wales many thanks & the best of luck. ALL Anzac's RIP
I prefer the Pipe Bands over the Marching Bands for this Anzac Day march . The traditional sound / look and slow pace suits the occasion .
I love the sound of pipes and drums. How beautiful! I wanted to be there.
Awesome!!!
From France. We love your Scotich Band
Back in the eighties this tune was playing and this was the first time I heard from the pipes and the drums i was frightened of the pipes and the drums when I was five years old ❤ Richard McGeechan
You can march down my street any time! Magnificent. My favourite music and the best military dress in the World. 💗
There is NOTHING in the world that compares to a Pipei Band. It owns our souls for some reason.
Einfach grandios.
Kijoykojojo😅
So exciting to hear and watch!
I love hearing and watching this
God Bless Scotland
Excellent stuff.
Fabulous 😃
The sound of freedom. After 25 years in PIPES AND DRUMS and as many ANZAC day parades, the hairs still stand on end. Our unit was disbanded in 96 as a part of Army re-structuring. Our affiliation with the BLACKWATCH over 100 years was ended.
Rusty, they are downgrading our global heritage...to be replaced by the snake charming pipes...what a tragedy !!
from NZ the Anzac`s my Uncle was in WW1 came home, shot in the hip,no more mustering for him.just very sad.every A nzac day a local lone piper goes to the cemetary and plays the last post he is the only one there from WW1 the village now has a population of 1000 lest we forget
My dad was a great piper.
Whenever the neighbours had a leaky sink or dodgy boiler he'd always go and fix them.
I adore such sounds.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Respect from Turkey, Istanbul
yer homeland loves you too
Ça a vraiment "De La Gueule", chapeau ! 👏❤️👍🌹🙋
The sound of those pipes is top notch.

At 250,000 views ! Thankyou to all the interested viewers around the world. On this day November 11 it is important to remember our lost but not forgotten service personnel .

Uyihkhky juin ul🎉
Scotland the brave....ALWAYS Brave. !!!
Damn sight better than that bloody awful flower of Scotland.
I can think of few things more powerful than the massed pipes and drums.
🏴 ❤🏴❤🏴❤
Absolutely love them and I'm italian
I did not get a good view or video this year , 2024 . Larger crowd around the Pipers .Thats good as the event , the Scottish march to the Cenotaph does not get much pre publicity & in the past the onlookers were mainly passersbys . A very stirring tribute to the fallen Scottish veterans.
Magnifique 👍 😁
That’s just badass😎🔥
I always imagine what it was like back then, marching towards you like that. You have the feeling that a stone wall is stepping aside.
👏
Just absolutely wonderful.
Before anyone says anything….
The guy at the end “mis stepping” (re correcting step) is 100% allowed in marching!
IMAGINE being been behind all those pipers, and drummers whilst marching in step at the BACK
Echoes from close up buildings too….!
Hardest position without a shadow of doubt, which means he’s probably one of the BEST there!
Ex British Army Decorated War Veteran who had the honour of marching out to pipes/drums after basic training.
That's very impressive
My favourite sound
😍😍🤩🤩🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗
Makes the hair on my arms stand up
Awe inspiring.
Great❤❤❤❤
Makes me break out in goosebumps every time and I'm not Scottish.
Perfekto.
I cry always, my mum a Douglas, in the bloodx

great😮😊
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ich liebe es❤
very interessant!
listen to that !!!!!!!!!!!!
Danke ❤🥹♥️
Pride, victory ✌️
🎈🎼💙💛
👍👍👍👍
When they heard our Pipes and Drums they all ran
Sweet 😊
Gloria alla Scozia!!
" When you hear this tune you know that reinforcements are arriving and the war will soon be over "
what time was this
Last years march .This year about 1.30 pm , they assemble in King St after the conclusion of the main march in Elizabeth St. My video of this years was ruined by the large crowd around the course . More their than last year. But i expect someone has a video for TH-cam. Never really advertised . In past years before the tram tracks and road changes they had the march in George St & a longer return to the Cenotaph in Martin Place. Very stirring event !! It is for Scottish descendants of veterans to lay wreaths on the Cenotaph.
@@Sydney2217 so when they finish elizabeth st, they go march on george?
@@lynnnguyen1467 Just the Pipe bands to march to and past the Cenotaph. To lay wreaths.
Ich liebe die Schottisce Tradition.
how playing san Sebastian in Guts and black powder is
The sound and beat are so fantastic, that you'd thing those participating could a least march in step.
This is australia mate they probably all had 6 beers b4 setting off 😂
😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇🥰
The worse thing about marching on ANZAC Day have a pipe band in front of you doing 116 beats and a brass band behind you doing 120 beats. Try keeping in step with that going on. 😅😅😅😅
i agree , the bands are often misplaced and do not always suit the age of the Veterans .
Super super super.
Gaitas gales el. Oso
you try to that in Belgium and people will be marching trough the Band ..
Gracias.a.wualas.tubieron.una.patria.propia.
SALUTE
We have something like this in streets in iraq but in oppsite style
Toma gaitas🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Colossal !
